In future could you guys please tell me cars are shit BEFORE I buy them?

I mean, I'll still buy them but it won't be a journey of discovery every time

Does that mean the axle / wheel is about to fall off?

If no, I'd wait until the next MoT. Because I'm fussy like that.

these lads got a Key West from the scrappy and took it pretty much straight for an MOT.

I imagine the story was similar with mine except I got my cheeks parted on eBay after the MOT instead of before.

Sad looking rear axle but cool car

You can do a DIY rebuild but it's a major pain in the ass.

This is Autoshite. Where's the fun in taking the easy option to save a couple of quid? 😉

Many members have a track record for inflicting pain on themselves, this doesn't have to be any different 😄

Good news! The driver's side front has compensated for the guffed rear pivot bearing. Now it leans heavily to the driver's side rather than just the rear quarter.

This photo was taken mostly level.

Spring is in tact but putting some heavy load on that bushing. I'm assuming tired shock and tired spring but need to muster together some money for parts. Looks like this bad boy is gonna be parked up for a little while again.

In other news there's potentially another near-scrap car coming my way in about a week.

Looking forward to witnessing more misery. Swapping out the entire strut should be fairly straight forward on one of these though, right?

Found this post last month about when you first picked up the old 106 – what a story that was!

Thought you’d like to know she’s still going strong.

Won in a competition last year, Just passed her MOT with no advisories, and still putting a smile on my face every time I drive her.

It's been an eventful year of ownership, cambelt snapping and my first ever rebuild of the top end, quite a few bits tidied up, still very faded 🤣

Got a big road trip planned for this week, fingers crossed.

I didn't think it would survive after hearing the cambelt had snapped.  Good on you, seemed like a great car, which I will never forget tailgating me through the night with no lights on.

Looking great, well done for saving it

Having driven this it's a wee charmer.

Cheers, Yeah, I was gutted when I realised it was the belt, and daunted, and I cheated a little/lot, found a refurbished head off Ebay at a very good price.

Old head is on the workbench waiting to be stripped down as a winter project (along with the other winter projects).

Was good to find the thread, see it's previous adventures, see the videos and get some history on the car (and I have also found a image before sdkrc got it). Something to put with the car and show some of its previous life.

This image was from June 2023Screenshot_20250825_085745_Photos.jpg.86f064a04f6cf70bf6619fb8dd3ddc4c.jpg

So we are off to do Lejog later this week, some/most of the family think i have lost the plot.

If you break down near Lancaster, the car is haunted.

Safe journey and have a great time fella. Stick a load of pics up if you can be bothered. Sounds like an epic run in a little troublesome chugger.

Definitely not cheating to fix it using the means you have to do so.

@rpg77, you absolute fucking hero.

I heard about the cambelt going and I was gutted for you. @Jimbob McGregor had mentioned it needed doing when he was working on it but I'd completely forgotten by the time I'd come to sell it. Sorry.

One thing to note if you're planning on doing a beefy lejog route, I broke down on the way back from northern Scotland and it took me hours to figure out that the fuel tank wasn't venting well. Fuel cap off it plus a huge gasp of air and it became very obvious.

It's such a fun and charming car. Delighted to hear that you're keeping it going and using it

You may as well just tag @cort16 in to the conversation lol

@sdkrc I was so giddy when I found this thread last month, some history about the car, videos and now the icing on the cake you responded 🤩

Looking back, I was tempting fate on the cambelt 🙄. Had a couple of issues with fuel delivery, 1) was a leak on the fuel filter resolved when I serviced it 2) I forgot to fit the washers when I refitted the injectors which led to air bleed into the lines when ignition off 3) have noticed the slight vacuum on the filler cap when filling up, but this is probably the third time I have put fuel in it since I got it 🤣 thanks for the heads up, I will have a look at that next.

I will probably start a new thread of the adventures so far rather than hijacking yours.

Got an instagram started for the upcoming trip.

This month it was also mentioned in a tiktok, I was driving through alderley edge and one of the supercar spotters videoed it as we went past, it's famous 😆

I don't know what it is about this car, its slow, old, tatty up close but I love it, perhaps it because we are so similar
