Shite at the Vicarage: Riley RMF

That's just lovely.  Though that backwards temperature gauge would freak me out!

That P4 of mine has a lot to answer for, so many cars like this I'd barely have given a thought to before.

These are lovely. I think these are a very stylish car. The 2.5 should make it able to keep up with modern traffic. They were quite something in their day. A bit special.

I've owned an original S-Type, several MK2's, several 'modern' S-Types and an X-Type and all I can say to this is can someone pass me the eye bleach.  Its a monstrosity.

There was a Riley RMsomething getting used as a daily driver into the 80s where my mate lived in the south side of Glasgow. Every time I went down his street it was parked in a different place.
I thought it looked cool AF.

The Riley RM is cooler than a snowman's piss. That monstrosity, well, specsavers sir, specsavers.

Well, that’s the Wolseley gone. I could never get it right again after the initial gearbox trouble. Will update later with everything we tried; but it has absolutely defeated us. Engine and gearbox have been out countless times in the last month. A new gearbox didn’t solve it, nor did new cables, numerous fluid changes, a new tc from yet another new box, nothing.

It was fun while it did work, but never again. As much as I love an old automatic, it’ll be a long time before I bother with another.

I know I said never again, but this has tickled my fancy a lot:

Maybe I need to give my head a shake, but from the outset this would be a much nicer prospect compared to my old one. I know old automatics are best avoided, but I just can't shake the desire for an old auto to cruise about in..

If it’s any help, I’d buy that too.

No major progress to report I’m afraid. Christmas is a busy time in the office here 😅

I hope to make some progress on it soon. I took the dynamo off to be recon’d and next up will be to look at the brakes (no pedal). It’s running well nevertheless and responded well to a bottle of t cut. Once I get it charging, and stopping, it should be good for the road.

I will update this thread with progress, when I make progress!

It's 50 years old, it's allowed to warp a bit!

On the subject of the Riley; would I get away with using a master cylinder seal from an earlier 1.5 car on my own?

As my friend Ta2Don always says…. Progress is Progress.

Looking at the sample, I couldn’t but wonder if the T-Cut went on straight over the Decade old dirt. 😉

Hope you give us a full side or 3/4 frontal shot once the dirt has gone.

I love all angles on this car.

With BMC there are no certainties but they may be common to both.

I didn't, so thanks! Seal kit for a tenner, and the same on eBay is 50 quid...

I'll have a good look through that site this evening

I did clean off the dirt before doing the rest of the car mind!

Making more progress with the brakes. On closer inspection the master cylinder seems to be fine. Pumped fluid through the brake lines but had nothing coming through the wheel cylinders with the bleed screw opened. Found the hoses blocked solid, obviously with debris etc.

Worth giving the coolant hoses a good coat of looking at, any fuel hoses too, after such a long period dormant; it would be a bugger to have either let go and spoil proceedings.
