Alfasud Giardinetta, anyone ever actually seen one in the flesh? I have to admit that I was totally unaware of them at all until last week, bit of web-digging tells me there are apparantly only about 100 left

Great looking things really, kinda like a pasta-flavoured allegro estate but about 2million times better looking.

more info here

whilst looking for photos I came across this, which i've never seen before.

dunno what the crack is with that, just a picture and no info, but whoever did the conversion has done a bloody nice job of it. with that in mind, feel free to turn this into an 'obscure estate/shooting brake' thread if ya like

They are a nice looking car even though they do remind me of a Allegro estate a bit!Bet most of them have rusted away, did we even get them in the UK?.

Posted

The GTV(?) shooting brake is clearly a fake, look at the C pillar and rear most side window.

check me out, I have OWNED one. A rusty wreck of one, but it defo was one. I spent mega yonks repairing the sills and A-post on one side, then couldnt face doing the other side so sold it for beer money. A918SKH where are you now?

The Sud estate is an exceptionally handsome carriage.

Posted

Yes it was, it had come from South Africa apparently. Although it was an A-reg, I think itb was a bit older than that really.I also went to look at another RHD one for sale in Stanley, co. durham in about 1992.

I spotted this one years ago in Italy..

Well check you out Mr.Nads! They built them in SA so that explains the rhd...

here's another slightly more unhinged pastanetta

hey what about that!!! i'd love to know if any of my mig welding is still attached to this car.

Its in EXACTLY the same condition as it was when i sold it in about 1993, its even in northumberland so didn't get very far! Amazing

That's pretty amazing. Wonder if it will get fixed or broken.

Love those Giardinettas - yours was GR8 for a Sikh living in St Andrews MrB...

Posted

I live near St Andrews and even drove taxis there, but I only discovered tonight that South Street is actually the A918.

Posted

I just had to google it - sounded much like a British road. Is it the shortest A-road in the UK perhaps?

Posted

It will be a small link between one A road and another.

Anyway, it looks like the Alfa has been sold. I wonder if it will get restored.

Funnily enough I saw a RHD one in a scrap yard in Milan in the early 1990's. It was an Italian built and registered one and apparently (according to the scrappy) RHD was still available for the Italian market and was quite common then, a lot of people found RHD to be a bit sportier!

Looks like it's sold. Did anyone on here get it?

The van has been for sale at that money for ages... :)

The photos are from before June 2009, they were taken at a German dealership, remember the ad well

It's not a Giardinetta anyhow. It's a Furgone.

This panel van version is extremely rare - only 17 built ~1978 and only one other known to survive in Italy (in well-worn condition, pic below). Available only to authorised Alfa workshops too.

Based on 5m, so it's the 1186cc with 5-speed box. (I loved my old 5M Saloon, it would pull to 7k on that ickle Solex)

Thats got to be a fake, the C pillar looks like it would no strength at all once you opened the rear door.
