Things with 7 seats and look van like... Talk to me....

The Zafira has had its new EGR Valve, the opinion in the Ted Household is to keep it for another year (shit that means I need to get it MOT'd next week then) and then chop it for something else. The MILF wants another, because she likes the seats - personally I would rather harken to something simpler. I'm actually thinking of a Defender 110. Yes I know they are agricultural to drive and deafen all that travel in them (not an issue really as Im deaf, so is the lad an so is the Milf in one ear) However the MILF has the startings of spondylosis of the spine so the spine melting ride of the landy probably wont win me any gob jobs for buying something that doesnt flash up little spanner lights at us every 6 weeks....So what the hell else is there that isa) fucking simple mechanically without any of this Euro crap to control the emissions..B) Boxy and sit up and beg likec) 7 seats.d) that I wont get upset when some little turd scrapes it with his BMX foot pegs.

Transit Torneo?Mercedes Vito*?Galaxy/Allmenbra/Shamong?*If you get a black one it'll look like a funeral car and actually if you get any one it'll rust it's panels off in about two days flat.

LDV Pilot isn't such a bad idea, a full minibus one rather than the Royal Mail surplus six seater.

Some Daihatsu Fourtraks have 7 seats. The rear-most ones aren't great though and they're all 2 door.

Im Liking the Disco idea - what year did the sideways back seats get the forwards facing treatment?Actually the LDV idea also floats my boat, mentioned it to the wife though and she didnt seem overly keen, perhaps one in white rather than red - or even special bus yellow?

We are having a similar arguement in our house.Defenders are surely OUT because despite having loads of seats only ones from the last couple of years have full belts on all seats - anything pre-2005 (ish) will only have 4 seats with 3-pointers. Fourtraks OUT for the same reasons. Pajero / Shogun have at least 6 full belts (more in the more recent 3.2 versions), but the belts are non-compliant with current kiddie seats, so if your small people are still small, they are also OUT. ALL psa people movers (C8, 807) seem to have either snapped cambelts or endless electronic wrongness. Most of the Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharans with the compliant seating (2001-on) seem to have problems with pd injectors and/or kippered gearboxes (usually automatics)3rd gen Espace - centre lap belt, 4th gen made by renault rather than Matra so dire build quality.Grand Voyagers are thirsty and have appalling NCAP points, so they are OUT. Kia Sedona, inflexible seating arrangement. OUT.Zafiras / 307SW / Touran / Kia Carens whatever all have zero luggage space if using the pop out rear seats. OUT. ANYTHING pre 2001-ish has a middle lap belt. OUT. Mercedes E-class / Pug 406 / Audi A6 / Volvo V70 with the rear-facing seats mean you can't use the seats AND the boot, esp. if like us you need to carry a pushchair. Which means we have a 'watch list' full of series II discoveries, which tick all the boxes (fingers crossed the air suspension doesn't go tits up, eh!). Not cheap on fuel in any guise though, currently trying to weigh up whether a diesel is good or if a 4.0 V8 on gas is a better route....

Fortunately the Petrol Vs Dizzzle debate isnt one that Im bothered about owing to the main car only doing about 6K a year, my car is the mile muncher and at 45mpg for the little 998cc Micra Im quite happy really.I just want something that can be fixed without having to be bloody plugged into a laptop first.

As someone who has been in your buying position re 7 seats might I suggest a Yankee day van with a gas conversion?

About 2001 I think, same time as they got fat bumpers - here's one on fleabay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-51-LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-2-5-TD5-GS-7-SEAT-MANUAL_W0QQitemZ250487645661QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item3a523a25ddEven Discos might have needed laptops by then - shame. Nothing ever went wrong with my Ninety that couldn't be fixed with a hammer

My FIL has just sold his 2004 Fiat Dobio MPV, That wasn't a bad thing, It was only a 1.3 Multijet Diesel so was very slow as are the 1.9D but i think the 1.9JTD performs o.k.

Not the prettiest of MPVs but they have great seat arrangements with all the belts and good visibly, The local taxi drivers love them But i don't think they are that cheap

I think the 2.4 petrol which is all you get in the UK Previa is fine.I can't remember my 'rents' Previa having more than 1 lap belt.

Could you squeeze into a Fiat Multipla?

Posted

It's not just the lap belt. Most of the older ones, and even the newer japanese sort have the buckle attacched to a flappy bit of webbing, and new kiddie seats don't work with that kind. You need the ones fixed down the side of the seats.

I only meant look at the seats - I didn't mean nine grand on an old Disco off eBay was a good idea...:roll:

So if it could be gotten for say £3000, £3500 tops, then another £1500 for a gas conversion, you are at 5 large, plus this would be on the old fixed tax rate. And will make a lovely noise. Only done 43k! (which given 18mpg is not surprising  )
