This company in the UK stock stainless steel wipers that look fairly smart - I've used them for other parts and they're normally good quality:

You used to be able to get the rubbers separately, on a roll. Don’t know if anyone still does this? 
 

(Edit: Didn’t see the last posts. I think SWF made this. I remember getting them from BMW for my old Z3 Coupe)

The easiest solution is to buy ‘normal’ black blades on Biltema, take the rubbers from them and slide them into your old stainless pretty  ones.

This is exactly what I intend to try first.

And if it doesn't work, I'll look at the other options.

And have now had another short oil change done today It was 260 km since the last oil change and will now run normal oil change intervals on this one going forward unless something else happens.  

And the important thing I got done was to change to a new oil pre filter, these should only be cleaned and not changed, but the one I have is so clogged that I struggle to get it clean and have doubts whether it can be saved.

And the difference between new and old prefilter is quite clear.

And with the filter housing cleaned, new oil filter and new oil pre filter, this was ready to go back on the engine.

So with new engine oil and filters it was started and runs fine. Feels like this engine just gets better and better with oil changes and use.

Good to see Mercedes still stock filters for an engine they made in the 1950's.

Any chance of a post in the near future with lots and lots of pictures of your heckflosse?

It can be arranged but what kind of pictures are wanted? Because I'm bad at taking pictures.

I tried to make a video where I went into detailes on this car but I'm not fit to be a youtber and my voice scared me so much that I didn't want to expose others to it.

Just whatever you can manage really. Up to you. Detail is good on high quality stuff like old mercs showing how well these old tanks survive the passage of time.

Will see what I can do. And can make a video where I don't talk but just show things that can't be shown in a picture, such as the wear on the gear linkages, how well the doors still close, etc.

This one starts very well now. 

Took this up for a trip to Treungen today, a total of about 100km. And had a short break there where I had an ice cream.

And on the way home I stopped at the local garage and booked an MOT appointment for this in August and the Mercedes met a younger sibling.

When I got home, I tried to film a bit to show a bit of the car as wanted by some and it didn't turn out well, I am useless for things like this and I have no idea what to show so I focused on wear and paint and chrome defects. And the first bit was to show how worn the gear linkages are. And the focus on a chrome strip by the rear window was to show the masking line after painting, but phone couldn't pick it up so added a picture below.

And the Mercedes star is attached with steel wire.

And the boot is massive, there is still plenty of space left after tools and miscellaneous stuff has moved in wich is nice.

It got a real workout today with high speed and heat, so I'm curious about the oil level and the color so will check later when the engine is cold and all the oil is in the sump.

I've put about 160km/100 miles on this since the oil change on Sunday and things are looking promising now.

The oil level is exactly where it was in the middle and the oil is still clear.

And this engine has no major oil leaks and is only  moist in some places.

The only place where there is some oil is on the passenger side  front of the engine but no drips. And not quite sure where this is coming from maybe around the big nut area in image 2?

I got the original taxi registration plates that this one had in the post today.

And they are big, much bigger than I thought and after studying the old pictures, these new ones seem bigger than the old ones. I am not sure what I think, I may have to check if it is possible to get smaller ones.

And at the back, there is a problem that the registration plate attaches to the hatch for fuel filling and if these new ones are to be used, I will either have to cut a notch in it for the handle to the hatch or attach it to the outside of the plate.

That large nut looks not unlike the timing chain tensioner used on the W123, in which case it could be a source of the leak as it had full engine oil pressure behind it.  Wouldn't surprise me if it's a very similar setup given Merc's tendency to stick with designs that work.

The thought has crossed my mind that this could be the timing chain tensioner. So when you now also mention it, that's probably it.

And It's not a big oil leak, so it's probably best to leave it alone, but  there is probably a gasket or a o-ring there that's the cause for the oil leak.

Doesn't happen much here. But took this on a 100km drive today up Gjøvdal, a slightly remote valley north of me.

There is a lot of known history in this area. A legend has it that during the Black Death plague, grave beer was brewed on one of the farms here for the burial of the plague victims, but the rest died so the beer was left for 11 years before people came again. And during the war, many were hiding here in the deep forests and inaccessible mountains for the Nazis.

There were also a lot of resistance fighters up there during the war and many airdrops with equipment were dropped here. At the top of the valley, the road goes over the mountain and into Britedalen, a valley named after Birte, the only woman who survived the plague there.

Almost at the top of the valley, there are the remains of an Iron Age settlement. I have read elsevere that from the legends, everyone here was massacred by wild people from the mountains.

I have also trusted this to do a grocery shopping trip

Which it did without any problems. I then also had to fill up with diesel and I was very curious about the fuel consumption, after 2 clicks I thought I had a full tank, which I didn't, which was annoying as I wanted to know the consumption. But 17.5 liters gave 3/4 of a tank after 412km so this one can  maybe have impressive fuel consumption will be exciting to see when I get a proper measurement. But the fuel gauge seems to work which is great.

And the only 2 problems this has now is that the cluth pedal doesn't always return as mentioned before. And the Mercedes star has problems staying up. But problems with  keeping things up at such an age are to be expected?

while reading am watching youtube on the tv a norweigan man is doing 1000km challenge in a mk1 leaf :D

he normally does it in new electric stuff but for a larf tried this - hes had the battery upgraded slightly for more kwh

normally itll take 12 hours or less

its took him 3 days 50-60 km at a time (charge) 40-50 km (charge) etc

I have goten the impression that this has low fuel consumption, but this surprises. And this is not something I have made up and I usually get very good fuel consumption on cars and this is driving in rural Norway so no motorway or city driving.

So after adding up the numbers, 25.2 liters used in 440 km, which I calculate to be 5.7 liters per 100 km. With a UK mpg calculator I get this to be 49,55 MPG.

I don't believe this completely until I get more measurements, but after other cars I've had, it's possible this could be true.

I could have done it faster on one of the old tractors that go 25 km/h.

Yes, I thought the same, and the road is also how many Norwegian rural road 50 years ago where. So this looks period correct.

A quick try and I got it to go black and white.
