Perfect, thanks!

My only worry is the main area it’s dripping from looks like it’s coming off the aux belt cover as per the below pic you can see a droplet there.

Wonder if that then suggests crank seal? But having said that, there’s oil everywhere as the other pics show, so could it just be the sump leaking and the oil ending up all over the place? I couldn’t see oil coming from behind the pulleys and I did take the aux belt cover off too

That’s not the crank seal, if it was pissing that much out your clutch would be juddering like a twat. Very very likely the turbo oil feed where the banjo bolts on.

I did have as good of a look as poss without stripping it down but there didn’t seem to be any wetness that high up the front, it’s almost all sump height level

I tell you what though, I've seen a couple of these pug HDI engines where the rear main seal (or indeed the gearbox input seal) starts leaking and it doesn't seem to affect clutch operation too much!

It could be the front crank seal, @JJ0063 you might want to remove the top timing belt cover and check. If it's saturated with oil in there it could seriously compromise the belt condition

It's hard to tell from the pictures but my main suspicion would be the turbo oil pipes, either feed or return, unless you can be certain it's staying dry up top and leaking from the bottom

Also hold the revs at 2000 or so, increased oil pressure will help push the leak out

This is well worth doing. Had to do similar under a van once to find a leak - wear ear defenders!

I’ll get it back up on the ramps tomorrow and have another gander, I’ll take the heat shield off the turbo and see if that gives any more of a view. Fingers crossed it’s that and I can avoid dropping the sump and wasting any more of the oil I’d just put in it!

My old Leon did this, got really bad in the end but was just a turbo oil feed pipe slightly, like 1/4 turn loose.

Never returned after that.

Unless I’ve gone mad, I can’t even see the end of the oil feed/return without taking the DPF off?

To be fair though that does appear to be weeping from the sump.

That twisted pipe up above in the first pic looks wrong as well.

I’m gonna order some oil and gasket maker, drop the sump and reseal.. at least I can rule that out then

Is that some kind of flexible heat shielding? If not then deffo not quite right.....

Yes you do have to take the cat/DPF off to get to the supply side of the oil feed pipe unfortunately. The return line is probably more prone to damage because it's only a rubber hose, I have seen a few split.

But....

Yes looks like the sump to me as well based on that picture (#3) - you can see the block is relatively dry but the wetness is running along the seam for the sump. So it's either coming from the sump itself or perhaps from elsewhere and running along it. Based on that I would suspect sump in the first instance or possibly front crank seal (pulley end)

Yeah that is normal 👍

Forgot to mention, I took the timing belt cover off the top and it’s bone dry behind it!

He can do yours after he's some over here and done the sump on my wife's Bini - I feel quite shamed into looking at it now after this set of photos :-)

Anyone know how long this wynns gasket maker takes to set? Ie how long before I can fill it up with oil? Cheers!

Think it's an hour but personally I'd leave it overnight.

Think it's pretty quick to be fair, we used to use 3 bond in Honda and that was waiting no more than 30 mins to oil fill, more like 20.

It might be a tad more aggressive than what you're using but it should do be within the hour I would guess.

Tried the MSDS sheets online?

Cheers guys

I put a fuck load on so I’ve packed up and gone in for lunch. I’ll leave it 4-5 hours and do it this eve as Mrs JJ doesn’t need the car until the morning for work.

I definitely went overkill on the amount I used, I just thought I’d rather it seep out the sides than there not be enough and it not work 😂

When I took it off originally, it fell off when I undid the bolts and there was very little sealant as per the earlier pic, so I’m pretty sure the sump leaking was at least part of the issue!

Well, it’s got oil in it again so I guess only time will tell if it still leaks! I’ll give it a couple of days of Mrs JJ going back and forward to work then see if it’s still dry.

May have to get another undertray from a breaker, it’s the carpet type and it’s just saturated with oil, never going to be able to clean it up.

You can say that again. 🤣. Just needs a thin bead, once the two surfaces mate it’ll squash out.

That's not likely to harm anything on a sump but just a word of caution - it would be way too much on anything near an oil gallery such as a cam carrier (not that you should really be using RTV by default on a cam carrier anyway) - it's not unheard of for the excess to block an oil gallery and cause predictable results.

But as it's only the sump, don't worry, it's a little OTT but it'll be fine!

Or if it falls off into the sump when squished from the mass quantities of it, it can get sucked up into the pickup and block it.

Less is definitely more with gasket maker on these sorts of things.

Got this back up in the air today, pleased to say the sump is bone dry, not a drop on it.

Couple of other areas seemed a bit wet again (edge of subframe, gearbox mount, lower belt cover) but I didn’t spend much time cleaning those up the other day so it could have just been previous oil working its way down.

Overall though we’ll call it fixed, the undertray is back on and it is now at least clean-ish under there for a 150 something thousand miles.
