How much does it cost to get stuff across the atlantic again?

I've been reading Wiki about these things it seems they were a massive project for GM. A 100% whole new car with a whole new factory for a whole new market segment (to GM anyway). My favourite fact is the following:

GM's German subsidiary Opel was commissioned to tool up a new 3-speed derivative of their production 4-speed manual transmission. Opel had a 4-speed available that was in high-volume production, but the GM finance department insisted that the base transmission be a low-cost 3-speed, with the traditional profit-generating 4-speed as an extra-cost option. Opel tooled up a new 3-speed unit exclusively for the Vega, whose final cost was higher than the optional 4-speed due to the tooling investment and production volume.

Fuggin' accountants in charge of engineering firm decisions :lol:

The original design provided for molded plastic front fender liners from the beginning. At the cost review meeting the finance department cancelled the liners, as they would have added $1.14 per side, or $2.28 per car to the product cost. One of the program objectives was to produce a 2,000-pound car to sell for $2,000.00, and every penny was watched. Five years later, after GM had spent millions to replace thousands of sets of rusted-out Vega fenders in the field, the plastic fender liners were reinstated as a mid-model change during the 1974 model year

I'm LOLING. You couldn't make it up could you!

Just as well the US car industry managed to get itself out of that mess, eh?

Nothing wrong with the look of those Vegas. Nice GM family resemblance to Kadett coupe at the back and Camaro at the front. Would this have been under the reign of Chuck Jordan?

Be like me, but much faster:

Looks like it's lost its front splitter, not uncommon - mine got damaged last year, easy to see why it happens. Still got its full complement of OE alloys at least.

V6 Sport is rare thing. Under a grand with that mileage makes this one a decent buy if the history is all there and the HG shows no signs of imminent failure.

Or, go just as fast but more discreetly, again for a decent price of £900 BIN:

I'm hopefully going to look at the V6 estate I posted a few pages back fairly soon. There is another good one on Auto Trader but I'm dubious about the private seller moving it on after a month because it's "too big". Er, wasn't that apparent when he bought it?...

It's the rarer one, by John's Brother Joe Cooper.

Ffs It isn't even a Cooper, i reckon it's one of the (not so) limited edition range of Racing/Flame/Checkmate. This being green would be the racing variety. I could of course be wrong but no where near as wrong as the complete spacker that is trying to cash in......

Slightly phenomenally, Fiesta Cosworth gentleman appears to have declared his handiwork to the Doovla! Good Barry!

I don't get the bonnet on that fiesta at all. The intercooler is below the grill and the air intake is behind the osf lamp .... So those huge ugly nostrils do nothing

Cockhouse - that red Vitesse coupe's already gone. This is more or less the same money (£1,700) but has done twice the miles (getting into the phase of its Rovery life where gearbox bearings shatter, windscreen seals perish, radioactive asbestos slurry seeps forth from air vents and so on).

If that drivetrain were in a 1.1 Popular body we'd be talking epic levels of win.

These are all from the same seller.

This cannot be restored as the vin is missing and the reg is currently registered as another morris oxford in blue which is still running according to the DVLA, this means that the reg was obviously stolen off it

I have been informed from the DVLA that somebody is driving about in a BMW 320 with this reg so obviously it has been stolen

I bet there's some other gems in his yard as well.

I like those two strips of 3-core household wire he's stuck on the back bumper at least.

The registration number of the A30 is now on a Merc SL as well. Sadly it seems a lot of numberplate dealers leave their "donor" cars outside to rot :roll:

I wonder if any of that collection is actually savable?

Me and my dad pulled this out of a barn after it being in there for nearly 30 years, It was being stored in the barn by a plate dealer who got a dodgy mot on it and sold the XGV 1 plate that was on it and then vanished leaving the car behind, I bet this happens all the time and i bet that's whats happened here.

What became of it? Does it live?

What happened to the Humber in the end Trig? Did it get restored?

I love the shape of those super snipes - they must have been a fabulous car to own when new..
