It's running on its own oil, drawn into the engine through failed oils seals in the turbo.

Exactly. Wonder if blocking the engine air intake would help?

Drain the oil

Aye, on you go - I'm not sticking my hands anywhere near a sump when the engine's revving its tits off like that and threatening to stick a leg out of bed!

A CO2 extinguisher discharged into the air intake in theory might kill the engine via oxygen starvation, however I suspect the thermal shock of the cold CO2 would cause just as much damage as letting it go bang.

Haha Alex, I'll send a Vel Satis dCi your way. Let me know how that plan goes!

Hmmm, a perkins prima would seem to be the way forward then.....

Problem solved. Let it blow its' guts out while you go to the shops. Lob in Prima, in Asda car park. Drive home.

To be fair, there's no need to risk your hands when the engine is just about to create another sump drain hole

A Samba by any other name is just as sweet. Lovely.

My second Allegro - now it has an MOT - hope someone will beat the mini owners to it as I had to fend them off when I was trying to sell it!

The MOT runs out a couple of days before the auction ends, he may get a few more bidders if he had put it up a couple of weeks before so it could legally be driven away

Safrane RXE V6 Auto. Looks ace for the money. £540!!!

# PART EX POSS # MOT NOV 2012 TAX NOV 2012(tax is worth nearly £200)

NO FAULTS AT ALL WITH THIS CAR

this is a once in a lifetime chance to own a car with a recorded 24000 miles which is fully loaded for little money - it benefits from remote locking/air-con-4x electric windows/mirrors/heated seats/climate control/power steering/alarm/voice commands/over drive auto box this car really needs to be driven to be appriciated the drive is so smooth and the seats are like arm chairs very very comfy

this car was owned my an elderly gent from 1997 the service history is rediculous it was serviced from1993 at 5483/6540/8691/10035/12994/14244/then to much more to list but basicly 8 pages from the same garage with 5 items per page the oil is clear (obviously) and the engine is quiet the only bad is a few scuffs and indicator needs replacing £19.99 on ebay new

remarkable to us, but it was this model that caused Ford so many problems in China with the limited success of the Mondeo. Even when the Mondeo's price became tolerable due to local construction, the Sonata wiped the floor with it for sales. Even now, the current Mondeo has been shunned by the Chinese market due, apparently, to the slanty eye reference made unwittingly by the headlamp design. Ford marketing chiefs must be cursing this Hyundai. Almond shape eyes are more tolerable obviously

Concerning the runaway renner engines , the fire extinguisher idea is a good one, but I would like to suggest using a water-based extinguisher rather than a CO2 one. Piping water directly into the inlet manifold will stop the engine more quickly and therefore more safely. In fact the concerned 2.2DCi owner could keep an old office fire extinguisher in the boot with a ¾†diameter pipe permanently drilled and tapped into the intake manifold, and a tap beside the drivers seat. When the inevitable engine runaway happens, simply wait till a speed of 4500rpm or more revs has been sustained for a period of 10 seconds or more, then open the tap quickly to bring the engine down to a controlled ‘stop’.

I think a plumbed in canister of easy start would, although not stop the engine, make things much more - shall we say - dramatic?

Posted

Release tiny ball bearings into the engine as a mercy killing. I always thought it was a shame they never did a diesel Avantime now I realise I was talking shite.

One for the 'watch' list. Why have a 50 inch plasma telly in the house when you can screw one to your car rooflining instead?

'The highest spec car that Lincoln make!'

As claims to fame goes that's on par with having 'the most beige interior Toyota made' .

Ten pissing grand as well, should be in the bargains thread really.
