ALSO WENT TO SKEGNESS IN HER ABOUT FOUR TIMES WHICH IS A 170 MILE ROUND TRIP

Impressive stuff!
What, that someone would be so taken with El Skeggo that they'd go back for seconds, thirds and fourths?
Posted

Perhaps they were dragged along to some dreary family "do" there, like I have been for the last two years. If they're going next year, we could meet up and go for a drink.

I've been known (despite my last post) to drive to Skeg and back just for a shandy in the Litton Tree, mainly because a lot of the roads from here are ace to drive at night. It's about 120 miles I think there and back.Let me know when you get dragged there next and we can go for a wander around that shambles of a funfair next to McDonalds on the front, I'll even treat you to a dubious sausage and chips from the place on the corner.

The engine has been flushed, the rocker shaft has been degreased and cleaned, the oil ways have also been cleaned out,new oil and filter have been fitted .The engine water ways have also been flushed , the radiator removed and totaly cleaned to get all rust particles out. A new thermostat has been fitted and the radiator refitted and filled with coolant .

I'm glad the rocker shaft is nice and clean, does it actually run though? Who knows

We succesfully drove her to Denmark onto Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia where we parked her up for 6 months!

We returned to Latvia, put a new battery on her and she started straight up, yay! Although the drivers side front wheel was showing signs of dropping on the suspension :(

From Latvia we drove through Lithuania, Poland, Germany (through Check Point Charley) back through Holland, Belgium and France before returning back to the UK a day before the MOT expired.

Throughout this entire trip (over 4500 miles) she never once missed a beat and was quite happy sitting on the motorways at 70mph.

Now thats what I call a road trip, much better than a lot of these poxy banger rally efforts.

The chap i bought it from was using it on a daily basis and was quite surprised when he found out it was going round the track....

The body is solid, under the bonnet there is no rot whatsoever same as inside the boot and underneath, sills etc, still straight as a dye..

Nice work

See! he does care really!

water pump leaking plastic pully gone need replacementvery easy to repair

Hmm, water pump on a tranverse v8, I bet its not that easy. Still, I would like to have a go at it! Bit too heavy for me to drag home on the A though sadly.
He's been trying to flog that thing for over a year now - last time his reserve was completely unrealistic. Having said that, if my memories of my one are correct engine access wasn't too bad due to the sheer size of the engine bay.

mobile skip any one ? excellent ad description i thought ( i am not clever enough for pics help me out )http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

Currently running on agricultural (red) diesel

Forget it then, traces of cherry is notoriously hard to get rid of.
Arr, but its being sold as an off roader so thats not a problem, even if you use the donkey elsewhere the customs people are only interested in whats in your tank, not what colour your cylinders be.

Well it's currently been used off road, but if you wanted to put it back on the road forget it. Traces of the dye hang around forever, and it stains the fuel lines too. So even using the engine in something else is a risk. You try telling the ministry you just bought it or fitted the engine. It's guilty until proved innocent with them.

Fred, its an urban myth that they dismantle the engine to see if you are running / have run on red. They dip your tank (and I have had this done twice) and if they find red or heating oil or indeed anything else not duty paid then they haul you over the coals (or in the case of my taxi driving mate Mick, they confiscate your car and fine you £400 plus what they think is the lost unpaid duty - they based this on the mileage from his last MOT to the day he was pulled) - otherwise if its regular duty paid stuff there is nothing they can do. Do you really think they would pull your engine to bits to risk having to repair / rebuild it when they find no traces of red. If you are really really worried buy some blue diesel dye from a haulage company (Trellys in Kirkham use it) and run it on that - that should fox the men from the revenooo. It might be that on odd occasions they have pulled peoples cylinder heads off, but its not something that happens if they just suspect you of running it on red.

I imagine if you get pulled with a tankful of red, its curtains. But if theres some trivial trace of red from way back when, you ve gotta be OK. What if you fitted a secondhand tank from a scrapyard, and it turned out to have had some red through it? Theres no way they can bust you for that.

1986 Talbot Samba LS

This is a nice looking thing, The prefect first car for Brammy?.

I've just watched this end, It never even made it's £450 starting price, I'm sure that would of made a cheap motor if you was the only bidder.

**Edit - Has now been relisted for £295 starting price **

I didn't say they took your engine apart by the side of the road. A fuel line is hardly a cylinder head is it? You can take a fuel filter off without damaging anything too. I have seen the ministry get a positive test from apparently white diesel. Most of the time when I have been pulled in I have been driving petrol anyway, but they still keep you waiting (cos they can) so you see stuff that goes on. on another forum I know somebody who had a driver who sometimes filled a toyota with red. It was only sometimes cos the owner filled it up too at a regular pump. He was giving the driver money, but he was buying cherry and pocketing the difference. It was only found out cos when the owner was stopped and dipped and was informed there were traces. They took it off him, and it was very messy proving it was done without his knowledge, and getting the thing back.
