JJ0063 Posted May 24 Author Posted May 24 Oil leak is getting bad now so have ordered a complete new rocker cover, genuine BMW injector bolts and copper washers… and a torque wrench! One tool I’ve never owned, everything just gets done up FT but feel like this might warrant doing it properly. Also after the heat died down today I managed to give it another clean. JJ0063 Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 Decided to give the rocker cover a go today, wasn’t terrible! New Febi cover, new injector seals and bolts Hopefully that cures the leak. I’ve taken the full undertray off which is huge and saturated in oil. Not sure how’s best to clean it other than a pressure washer and degreaser? Matty, Coprolalia, Jazoli and 1 other 4
JJ0063 Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Thought I’d try and earn some love from the BMW by giving it a proper hoover for the first time possibly ever. Hoping maybe giving it some TLC will stop it leaking? Put an old boot liner under the engine and there’s a couple of drops there 🤦♂️ trying to be optimistic and say it’s probably just remnants I missed with the brake cleaner.. however I’m pretty sure the oil filter housing is also leaking which is another common N47 issue… yes oui si, EyesWeldedShut, Coprolalia and 2 others 5
JJ0063 Posted June 1 Author Posted June 1 Fuck it, determined to sort this. Oh and I had a low coolant warning last week, topped it up and it’s dropped slightly again so I’m hoping there’s a small leak rather than anything serious. Coolant flange is very common on these so whilst the manifold is off to do the oil filter housing gaskets, I’ll change the flange even if just for preventative maintenance considering how easy it is to switch whilst the car is in bits. Matty Posted June 1 Posted June 1 BMW in not keeping coolant where it should be shocker. I love my old bms and had several but every one has involved fucking about with the shit cooling system components 😠 yes oui si and JJ0063 2
JJ0063 Posted Sunday at 21:03 Author Posted Sunday at 21:03 I didn’t take any pics as it was a SHIT job, but did the oil filter housing gaskets today. Pretty sure the gearbox cooler line is leaking now as it just didn’t feel like it would seat properly so I may have to revisit that but it’s one retaining bolt and can be accessed from underneath. Also the filter housing wasn’t that wet, but the sump was absolutely drenched. I’m now thinking that either the sump itself is the issue, or the rear main but that was changed with the timing chain a couple of years ago. Ready to sack it off now but can’t sell it as is. I’m not sure it is actually still leaking as I put a sheet of cardboard on it and it’s only got two droplets on it 24hrs later and there is a lot of residue from removing the housing yesterday amongst the previous oil I couldn’t clean off. Either way, I’m done with it now Plate is off! Not a clue what I’ll get next, haven’t got the money to upgrade as such, will just be another 5 grand barge for now. MrGTI6 1
Bren Posted Monday at 20:26 Posted Monday at 20:26 Unfortunately £5-10k is world of pain territory. JJ0063 and MrGTI6 2
