Who is this? And what have you done with @JJ0063?🤣

*Not my sort of thing but that does look awesome 😎

It looks fucking awful, I’m a grown up too.

Take solace in the fact the resale value has hit rock bottom and the buyers market if and when it comes up for sale will be aligned to those desperados wanting a second series of Eldorado!
Never thought I’d take a second glance at an Evoque but they make sense now and like your other vehicle mods OEM + adds to individuality,  ot sump smashing low riders.

So this went in for a recall today on the power steering motor bolts, got a call after a couple of hours saying they’ve snapped one of the bolts when removing it so they’ve ordered me a whole new steering rack which will be fitted tomorrow FOC. Happy days!

Got this 25 plate Evoque P300E courtesy car for the mean time:

Considering I’m supposed to be picking my car up at 5pm, they’re cutting it fine to get a new rack fitted today I think 😂, tracker shows it in the car park and it’s not been started since 11:22am yesterday.

Not complaining but fully expecting a phone call shortly to say they’ve not had time to do it.

Got a call at 4:15 to say the rack is done but it’s in the queue for the wheel alignment ramp so could I collect at 9AM tomorrow - happy enough with that.

Collected mine this morning, mad to say it was nice to get back in my 13 year old 133k miles one. Interior is much nicer on mine!

Fair play to Kings Lynn Landrover, I can’t complain - it’s come back with a brand new steering rack, print out for 4 wheel alignment, washed and vacuumed. 2 and a bit days in a brand new car and it’s not cost me a penny.

Everything is controlled by one screen and is within sub menus so it’s an arse to do even simple tasks whilst driving.

Heres my interior:

I thought maybe the quality of the leather had dropped. I'm with you on the new one - that would drive me bonkers. I guess you could get used to it but why? Less is more?

(I have a 'thing' about fingerprints on/people touching monitors - I've just about come to terms with mobile phone touchscreens but the sort you have there would mean I'd be constantly wiping and cleaning)

The leather felt a lot different, seats not as comfy etc but I suppose it’s partly down to being brand new, not worn in yet etc

Running everything of a screen is cheaper to build.

The same physical screen goes into the base model and the top model and all in between.

There is no need for a different console for the car that doesn’t have the heated seats, just program the screen to not show the heated seat buttons. Likewise, sunroof buttons, split air con, language etc

Exactly , it's far cheaper to develop/type approve/safety test one item than many different ones to perform the same purpose.

The full fleet has matching plates now! Mrs JJ’s new Berlingo to replace the Fiesta has one too now thanks to an overtired eBay bidding session.

Pugilistic? Looking for a fight? 😀

First FTP on the Evoque. Nothing too drastic and a very common LR issue.

OSR door has stopped locking. If I lock it manually, it’ll unlock though.

NSR when I bought the car I noticed didn’t always unlock first time, but always locked on the fob.

Cant justify nearly £200 per door for genuine actuators so we’ve gone for eBay specials to see how well they last.

First FTP for the Evoque! Started getting an “adaptive dynamics fault” on the dash. Can’t find much online about the code it’s got stored but wondering if it’s potentially the OSF shock as it’s an electric one and it’s knocking.

U043A-00

Invalid Data Received From The Suspension Control

Module B

Intermittent

I’m also starting to lose the love for it and this hasn’t helped. Love the car but it’s shit on fuel. I put £80 in it on Friday, drove to Coventry and back and a few other places this weekend, done just under 300 miles and the range is down to under 100 again. I can’t be getting more than 30 odd to the gallon. I don’t expect miracles being a 4x4 but I could run a 4.4 diesel full fat range for similar fuel costs!

We do like it so I’m sure it’ll stay, but it’s annoying me a bit at the moment…

With the above fault combined with getting a knock from the OSF, it’s time to replace the shock.

This complete front strut including spring, top mount and electric/magnetic shock for £85 inc postage is bound to be high* quality and solve the issue.

(Saying that, the cheap rear one I fitted has been fine)

Something strange has happened.

I posted in the air con thread about the Evoque AC is ice cold when moving, but when sat idling, it goes warm/stops working.

I noticed when I was looking for the suspension fault code, there was also a rad fan code so I chased the loom and found a purple trigger wire had rubbed through. Fixed this and the rad fans now function perfectly. The car had never overheated but it was obviously affecting the air con.

What is very strange though is the massive increase in fuel economy. As I posted before, it was shit on fuel - indicated dash MPG never got above around 33MPG. Even after a motorway run to Coventry last weekend.

All I’ve done is fix the rad fan wire and today it’s sat steadily at 42MPG, mixture of town, countryside and a quick trip down the A11/A14 earlier.

Can’t get my head round it, I get it’ll be running slightly more efficient now it’s being cooled, but that’s one hell of an improvement!

Anyway, not complaining…

Many years ago before he passed my old man had a 1987 Range Rover Vogue, after the R fell off the ‘over’ one morning, after his usual bottle of Scotch, he modified the front bonnet to read ‘Hang Over’ quite apt as he succumbed to the drink in 1997.

The Range Rover LCD elicited the good memories of the old man, if he was alive today his sense of humour may have carried to your iteration of JLR if he had one….

1984.  Previously there was the In Vogue in 1981 of course

Didn’t take any pics of the process as I was wanting to just get it done today but new OSF shock is now fitted, actually very straight forward job.

Drove round the block… adaptive suspension error came straight back. FFS. Went back round and checked all 4 corners, wiring all looking fine, removed all the electrical connectors and sprayed them with contact cleaner.  Round the block.. error back again.

Jacked it up once more, wiggled each of the little height sensor arms, all attached with no visible damage.

Got back to the OSF and realised that although it was intact, the little arm was flipped round the wrong way, almost as the suspension has gone to full travel and the arm has then got to max reach and flipped round - I’ll attach a pic from google albeit NSF, but you’ll hopefully get the idea of what I mean.

Anyway, pulled it back the correct way, cleared the fault and just did a 25 mile round trip with no errors.

God knows how it’s done that as the error first pinged up as I pulled out of a car park in town, it’s not been through any huge craters where it’d get to full travel, and the last time it would have been in the air was when it was in for the steering rack recall but I did probably 1k miles after that before this error appeared on the dash.

Mystery but an easy fix, and it spurred me on to fix the noisy shock at least!

That scanner looks a handy bit of kit, does it do programming or actuator tests too?

I’ve not really used it in all honesty! it’s got a fair few functions.

Now I’ve fixed it, I thought it deserved a wash and hoover.

Still need to change both rear door actuators but I keep putting it off as I know it’s a bit of a pain in the arse. I will get round to it soon..

Just changed both the rear door latches/actuators. What an unnecessarily fiddly and annoying job.

Air con compressor working over time as it can't remove the heat+moisture from the cabin as the condenser isn't cool enough to cause enough of a useful temperature drop?

I hate doing any work inside doors, Always a horrible, fiddly job that, no matter what it is, because there's always be something inside the door at a horrible angle behind thin, sharp edged metal, leaves your hands and arms looking like you had a scrap with an especially angry cat.
