THE GUBBERMINT ALWAYS KNOWS BEST

Seriously, get some pukka lowered springs for the Capri - you can choose what poundage you want, and they'll sit properly. Fergus (My mate) had -1" 170s on his but we both reckoned 190 would have been better, especially if going lower.

I'm building some shortened shock coilovers for it when I pick up some more front struts later next month, and as I suspect the stock springs have sagged somewhat I'd end up chopping even -2" lowering springs.

So long as i chop from the bottom of the spring they will seat correctly, and i'll be wiring them in so there won't be any dislocation issues :)

I need to get the bumpers off ready - the rear was easy. The front is still on

I had the same problem with mine, spray a tonne of cluctch an brake cleaner on the nuts, leave for afew minutes then they are easier to undo.

I am fitting new bumpers as they are rusted and dented

Can i have your old bumpers ?

Mine are well ... more twisted than a curly wurly.

In a stark contrast to SirTainlyBarkin, I have embarked upon my inappropriate alloy and lowering campaign once more, and the rear of the capri now sits closer to the ground :)

Front wants 1 1/2" out of it now, rather than 2" for some reason, i'll do that at the weekend before taking it to my mates to get sprayed :D

Loving that, what wheels are they by the way? Really suit it.

This weekend *might* see a major fleet clean up/cull/exchange. Need a slightly bigger (and more economical) daily so looking at various mingebag dizzlers and it could be goodybe to my faithful Astra.

Planning on wheeling the old Merc out into the sunlight after a long time hidden away and giving it a much needed clean. I heart cleaning it, it always comes up well and it's nice spending time using kwal gear to buff it up.

Son's Astra Mk3 needs some fuel and a good run out plus a once over before pre-MOT time at the garage. Wheelarch repairs have held up well, some more tidying up here and there should see it looking a bit better.

Fiesta of hatefulness may be meeting it's maker depending on current scrap prices. There's a lot of scrap merchants advertising in local free papers which is always a good sign.

Scooter needs the headstock screws replacing (rattles like a b@st@rd at the moment as one is missing and the others are woodscrews) and the speedo reconnecting. Need to get out on it at some point especially if the weather stays like it is. Still on the look out for a cheap project to do up in my spare time but not much about, especially anything sensibly priced.

Yesterday was the 100th birthday of Alfa Romeo. I celebrated the occasion by giving the 156 a good wash to remove the insect souvenirs of last weekend's trip to Wales, and by getting one of the rear windows to work. :)

We've just opened the trailer tent up for the first time since it was last put down at the end of August last year. All looks to have survived the winter cold/rain/snow with no problems at all. Yay for summer camping joy/misery! (delete as appropriate according to weather)

Edited for accuracy.

I now have no bumpers.

Now all I need to do is chop the springs and fit some inappropriate alloys, or perhaps not.

Minimad, I expect my bumpers are as bad as yours, dented and nearly rusted through in places (also I ended up grinding the studs off the front one)

I see you have another one, please don't sell it this time, because you know what'll happen to it - alloys, zetec engine and roll cage,

Well, my recently purchased Frontera launched its propshaft on the M4 in the 3rd lane at 70 and its a miracle that no one was hurt. Half of the prop flew off (making a hell of a noise as it bounced off somewhere into the distance) as it went ballistic and it the other half of the propshaft said hello as it came through the floorpan on the off side. I can honestly say ive done some stupid things in cars over the years but this put the fear of jesus up me as I stood on the hard shoulder thinking about how lucky I and every other motorist around me was that the fucking thing never turned over.

Pictures of damage were taken at the services in Gorseinon after I limped it there in 4high. Still shaking when they were taken.

The grey crack is where the propshaft came through the carpet and out the side of the transmission tunnell

And in the month I owned it I never had the chance to take it off road. Bastard

Got £150 for it in scrap

UH OH!

Astra Mk4 has gone to a new home. I know I'll regret it because like the last one it was ultra reliable and I feel at home in them. It's just too small for fast growing kids (my lad is nearly 17 and nearly as tall as I am) so I got a bigger car, a diesel this time.

It's not a Vauxhall and the aroma of EPIC SELF PWNAGE is floating round.

It might just be the picture, but does the Passout have a different coloured roof. Looks like it could be matt black?????

Posted

Yeah it's been partially scene taxed I'm afraid, though the roof (sort of gloss-ish black) actually looks quite good. Well, it does to me anyhow.

I think these run on vege oil too so will be having a go at LOBING SUM IN DA TANK M8 INNIT.

Plus point so far: about eleven square miles more rear leg room than the Astra. GR8 for less child based arguments as no-one wanted to sit behind me in the Astra.

Off to get some horrendous looking mingebag CD player for from Argos shortly, anyone know how to get the standard fit stereos out of these things please as it seems to not have the holes for the pins? Ta muchly.

Posted

The TDi engines are ok on vegetable oil compared to some other direct injection engines, but don't let it idle for a long time and keep an eye on the dipstick for veg oil contaminating the sump.

Posted

O RLY.

So we could feed our galaxy on veg??

**Goes to Makro**

Posted

Thanks Milford, I'll just chuck the odd litre in here and there rather than risk running ti all the time on it.

Posted

How old is your Galaxy? If it's a pump duse engine it's a big no-no.

Posted

2002 registered 1.9 115bhp

It says TDi on the boot in the VW style, but under the bonnet it's dressed with ford badges...

Posted

Same engine that's in my Passat then Pog, the PD engine, To get the stereo out you need some thin keys, I got a local VW/Audi specialist to pull mine out as mine used to have a car phone and it wasn't disconnected properly causing the stereo to go all TELE mode.

Cracking cars though, I guess yours will be the 110 bhp model or is it the 90bhp?.
