First impressions are it's actually rather good!

Following on from the Scirocco getting a new weber

- it now does 36mpg whilst pottering about instead of the 28mpg it did before -

 

apparently the carb is jetted for a 1800 not a 1600

if I changed the jetting would this make

a - any difference?

b - faster?

c - quicker?

d - more economical?

38DGAS on a Pinto does make them quicker, and doesn't seem to have much effect of fuel consumption, and that's a 3 litre carb on a 2 litre engine, so 200 cc difference isn't going to make a lot of difference. Anything would be better cran shite Pieberg original it probably came with. I presume it's a 28/32?

Went to start today and all the electrics cut out, a problem I diagnosed as a loose positive terminal. Should be easy except the bolt that hold the main cable on has seized and since it's such soft metal I can't get any leverage on it. Not going to attempt to strip and refit the wire onto the new terminal whilst racing against the dark, so I've shoved a couple of small screws in to secure the terminal

Had my scimitar Vic checked on Tuesday which went well the tester was fairy sympathetic towards old cars (he had a collection of Triumh mayflowers!) and the car passed ok, Had it re MOT'd today (only 3 months since the last one. so hopefully I can get it sent off to the insurers to satisfy them its been repaired.

 

On the way home I stopped to help a girl whos silver mini mayfair had run out of fuel. So I ran her up the road to get some in the scimitar. Never got her number though...

I very nearly bought a manual Z28 one of those a few years ago (until I discovered my trade policy wouldn't touch it with a bargepole). I liked it, mainly because it was just a decent sounding V8 bolted into an honest car. None of this prestige, soft touch, 'I'm refined, me' bollocks.

Just bought ten litres of Simoniz car shampoo for £1 from my local Wilkinsons (the Southend-on-Sea branch), which should last me several years, even with two cars to wash:

 

 

I wasn't sure that the asking price was correct at first, but when I saw that every container (about thirty of them) on display had the same price sticker and that all of their barcodes had been obliterated with black marker pen, I didn't need to be convinced further. I reckon that the heavy discounting must be the result of an over-stock, or that the shampoo is an end-of-line product, meaning that it might be a country-wide deal. Check out your local Wilko, as you may be in for a pleasant surprise

 

I'm thinking of returning later on with one of the Volvos, in order to obtain £5-worth of the stuff ^^

After a false start with a mate's Renault Clio van that got a four-page MOT fail I won a 1994 Peugeot 205 STDT on eBay for £670 and pick it up on Sunday, chuffed to bits as always wanted one of those and it's in the right colour with the right wheels.

Today my son sold his/our Mk3 Fiesta. Got an offer he couldn't refuse and we have more shite lined up already, though it's not really as 'Autoshite' as the Fiesta was.

Today I have mostly decided to pick up the new shitter and, thanks to the unique way in which my bank account says no to anything remotely decent, it's a right old wankbag.

 

It came with the added bonus of a flat tyre, knackered headgasket, an interior that reeks of cats piss and front seats that weren't bolted down. 1.4 litres of headgasket befuckled motor coupled to a SPAZMATIC gearbox meant progress wasn't exactly quick. But as Brucie may have said 'if the price is right, come on clown'.

Tyre pumped up, driver's seat tied down with rope, water topped up, windows open, Radio1 very quickly untuned from the Christmas cracker Hyungdongo XLGT CD player and the short drive home...

I can honestly say I was more ARSED about it having fucking Lexus lights than worrying about whether the headgasket would hold up, which it did without drama.

It'll be a scrapyard job for the seat runners (fucked) and standard rear lights, and Aunty Bessie's favourite industrial sized lump hammer job to 'modifiy' the spaccy Lexarse rear lights.
