My Iranian dentist cuts my hair and says he outsourced the unappetising part of the business.

The guy who now does my teeth refuses to give me a haircut as well, so I'm stuck with my Iranian dentist in that respect.

Insurance.

SCUM.

+1.

I'm meant to be looking at a K11 Micra tomorrow. No problem, thought I, I'll just ring up my insurance company and ask them to change the car over from my 206 to the Micra (I'm pretty certain it'll be coming home with me). Rang them and after 3 weeks on hold I get through and change the car over to run from 10am tomorrow. I asked them to send me a cover note so I can tax the Micra as it has none at present. They email me a cover note for the 206...ring them up again and find out that they've insured me on the Micra from tonight which is not what I asked for so after a lot of fucking about they have put a note on my insurance just in case I get stopped by plod. I ask them again to send me a cover note for the Micra. They send me one for the 206 AGAIN. By this time it's 7.58 and they shut at 8, so now I've got no idea if I'll get a cover note for the Micra now and the whole fucking thing could be out the window.

Someone else bid on the Merc at the death, and has told me they'll pick it up Sunday. So that's something.

My dreams of TR7 ownership have been temporarily dashed. Got two insurance quotes, £400 or £8500, equally as affordable considering I'd also have to pay £225/pa tax on the thing.

Looks like I'm not only stuck on classics, they have to be old and slow too

Who was that with? That's bad. Have you tried a normal policy? I have one of my cars on a normal policy to preserve my no claims whilst I drive classics (and keep my classic provider happy) and its still only £98 a year. That's through Adrian Flux.

That was just an online quote from Lancaster. It'd probably come down a bit if I phoned around but with no modern car and no NCB I've found the Lancaster quotes are usually a pretty good estimate in the past. I could stomach ~£300 if I wasn't paying the high rate RFL as well.

May try a normal policy now you mention it...

Edit: £340 on confused, not bad!

Try Peter James insurance or Peter Best. Always been good for my cars.

I'd highly recomend RH Classic for old car insurance.

Insurance grump - Direct Line - surprise surprise. Not content with being useless regarding Mrs L's recent none fault claim they sent the renewal out and happily doubled the premium anyway. Cheers for that, don't think you'll be having any business from me.

Churchill are part of the same company if you want to avoid them too.

It's 7.55am, I'm still pissed and have had about 5 hours kip. Now have to actually GO OUTSIDE and take bits off a car because CarTakeBack are coming. Someone remind me why I piss about with old chod, please.

It's silly getting sentimental over cars I reckon, but I'm genuinely sad to see this go. Had a brill day when I collected it and lost count how many trips I made in it, I seemed to always be on the M53, M56 and M6 somewhere collecting/dropping off bikes and it did me proud. It stank from myriad tip runs and old oil and shit and was all sticky from missing the filler neck when lobbing TEH VEG OIL in.

Goodbye, old mate, it was a pleasure...

It's sickening that a modern vehicle with just a few issues is bridge fodder these days and there's always much newer stuff kicking the yards down here. Like you say though, it often makes financial sense so only the few that we really really hold dear get saved by us bankrupting ourselves and going against all common sense to do so.

Damp. More or less it will now be here till May so godnose when I'll be finding the garage roof dry and ready for paint.

I genuinely LOL-D at that comment!

My laptop's hard drive has just expired. I should have replaced it ages ago but I wasn't prepared to live with Windows 7. Now it looks as if I'll have to live with 8 instead. Baws.

Rang a dealer yesterday morning to look at a BMW told him what time we would get there ish.

On arrival asked a salesjocky were the car was to be told that another salesjocky has it for the weekend and he was off..Looks like a lost sale there then.

Last September i found corrosion in the alloy wheels on my modern as it was still under warranty i took it back to the dealer 4 new wheels ordered and fitted i have looked after them waxed them cleaned them 3 weeks ago i got 2 new tyres fitted cleaning the car to day i spotted a small amount of damage to the rim. I know i haven curbed them so i asked the wife no i wouldn't dare came the answer.I went to have another look, the damage is on the top of the rim,so it look like it could be from the tyre fitter.

^ What Dave said.

Go for an SSD (solid state) no spinning disk, it's like a giant memory stick.

I just did mine, it's fast as fook! My computer's like a red-top powered Samara now, and I'm still enjoying XP.

MY SSD was £60 on ebay, if you can't install everything on it yourself, your local computer guy should do it for about £40.

I've gone to the Windows 8 side now. I really was needing to replace the laptop anyway, there were more and more websites that I just couldn't use. Windows 8 isn't quite as hateful as I expected, though I was expecting it to be as hateful as a Vauxhall Insignia displaying Lib-Dem stickers and loaded up with golf clubs, so the bar was quite low.

It would be nice to get my data back but it's not going to happen.

Posted

Install "classic start" on it to turn off most of the new windows 8 metro rubbish, and it'll become quite usable.

Posted

How do you do that please, Cobblers? What REALLY pisses me off with Windows 8 is having to piss arse about to get to basic things like photographs, folders, all that kind of stuff. I just don't think they could have made it more user un-friendly if they'd tried.

Download that, click OK a few times, boom it's 99% like windows 7 again. I've had to install it on dozens of laptops for people, nobody I've met could deal with windows 8 for more than a few minutes before completely giving up, it's like they got a bloke who designed kit cars in the late 80s to design a user interface.

If you buy an external dock (check your hard drive connection, although it'll prob be data) and you can plug your old hd in as a pen drive, and as long as it's not proper fucked you should be able to get everything off.

And +1 on the ssd, I bought one for our 5 year old laptop when it shat it's drive and it's made such a great difference! Pissed the missus off though as she wanted a new one...
