It's this one Gary, previously spotted by myself.

Really tidy, with the exception of a small amount of surface rust at the bottom of the front spoiler and a scrape down the N/S/R door and wheelarch. 54k on the clock, no MOT but the scrapyard guy said he could put one on for the new owner. He suggested a bag, when I hinted that was a little expensive he said he was 'open to offers' and I reckon he'd go quite a bit lower than that.

Apparently the elderly owner had a stroke and his daughter scrapped the Ambassador!

Amen brother, I feel your pain. There's a fantastic 1 owner Ambassador that's just been driven into my local scrapyard. I can afford it, but I don't need it and have no storage. As you say, I can't bear to part with any of my current fleet and am struggling with parking as it is, so it's a no-go :(

Well,if you can afford it,and you could have a few weeks fun from it,then move it along to someone else, isn't that better than seeing the 'alternative' which tends to happen in breakers yards

bleeding Epson rubbish. The PC can't see the printer/scanner on the wi-fi, despite multiple attempts at rebooting etc. So I throw in the towel and connect it via a USB cable. Did that work? Did it fuck! I need to scan just 3 sides of A4 by the morning, and it's starting to look iffy.

*off to look for some drivers*

Bought a cheap laptop for the missus on ebay, it takes over a week for the seller to put it in the post, which they claimed would take 10 days, and charged me £20 for (the postage label is for £11, this git did NOT spend £9 on a fucking cardboard box).

That aside, the CPU fan screams on it, so I sent a message asking if, as we're happy with it aside from that, he'd spot us half of the cost of a new fan, to this, the seller has made a face like a cat's arsehole and wants us to send it back, which according to his postage scale would be twice the cost of a fan.

ARSEHOLIOS

Was it secondhand? If so, try cleaning all the dust out of it. I recently did that with my cpu fan, got rid of years worth of accumulated crap and the difference is remakrable

Only a minor one so far today, Parked outside my office in Sheffield this morning, just needed to nip in to drop some stuff off. Found a space, went to get a ticket from the P&D machine.

Minimum Cost:

55p for 30 mins.

£1.05 for 1hr

£2.05 for 2hr

Then noticed the sticker saying THIS MACHINE DOES NOT ACCEPT 5p 2p 1p.

So that will be 60p for 30 mins then.

That's bang out of order. Moneygrabbing toss piece council!

suggest to the council via the local newspaper that they're a thieving bunch of dishonest, money-grabbing scumbags!

If it's anything like the local councils Ive worked for it's more like a complete lack of interdepartmental communication.

ie Finance dept tell parking dept to put all prices up by 5p and it's not up for any type of discussion.

Well I'd say she needs a firm punt in the cunt, personally.

I am a member of the EKSHACUNTIF committee of the residents' association for Sheffield city centre. I'll mention the 5p thing next time I meet a councillor- I don't think I can raise it directly with the parking manager, because for some unknown reason he didn't think I was being very friendly when I accused his department of "quasi-fascist anti-car ideolepsy".

RE the Ambassdor.

Yeah it's a sad waste but can't blame her too much, it's like chucking out something old which value you don't recognise. Imagine clearing out an elderly relatives house and chucking a rare pair of designer shoes in the skip. Most of us lot wouldn't recognise the value (perceived or otherwise) so to landfill they would go.

I've just called Sheffield Council, and apparently the Operations Manager will be calling me in the morning. Its the fact that the machine is set up so that the Minimum it will accept is 55p - which you cant actually put in.

On all the ones I know in Leeds, if you put less than the minimum charge in you just get less time - not so on this one.

I may ask them to send me a cheque for 5p....

I am sure they'd be happy to do that- it's not like they'll be paying for printing/postage out of their own pockets.

Don't worry Volksangyl, I don't think the Ambo is on death row yet. Although I can't take it on as my parents would kill me if I brought another car home, I shall endeavour to get down there tomorrow and get an update on the situation, and some more photos. It would be nice if someone from AS could take it on!

Sadly when a person dies the family only have so long to clear out a property and i can't imagine many people wanting to piss about with a old Ambassador once one of their parents have died when they have more important things on their minds.

Hopefully someone can save it though.

I'd love to take it on, but you know the score with space, time, money and cars. I'm being very tough on myself now I have a job and insisting I fix the two I've got and improve the parking situation before committing to any more 'tin children'.

*Sigh*

I'm getting a bit fucked off with my 'lack of storage' situation. I keep seeing loads of great shite up for good prices but cant justify buying due to this bastard 'lack of space' problem, my sheer reluctance to sell any of my fleet doesnt help either.

I'd love to store the 827 Sterling somewhere for a bit and try out different things, eventually filling that space with an 800 V6 Coupe, but the way things are going, it aint gonna happen :(

Thats my grump as well I haven't been on here much since I lost the garage space i was renting, had to move the Citroen onto my driveway, got a cover for it but it means now I'm at the mercy of the elements if I need to work on it, and it does require a bit for the MOT. I'd seen a 827 for sale the other week, though it would make a great second car as a backup for my daily, which I really want to hang on to because it's been one of the best cars I've had so far, and plus the fact I'd get fuck all on part ex since it now got 105,000 miles on it, and only have room for two cars.

Heigh ho, you could be like me, and have enough space but share it with a grumpy curmudgeon who won't deviate from his 'plans' one inch, despite paying an equal share of the rent for nowhere-fucking-near-equal amounts of space.

Heigh bloody ho.

More grumpyness from me this morning...

I live next door to what was once the Tetley's Brewery in Leeds, the demolition of the site has been going on for the last 5 months or so, but this morning they started doing this:

IMAG0043.jpg

It's the old weighbridge, which they are jackhammering through with a minidigger. As the weighbridge was functional and still mounted on its springs (or however they work), the hammering is basically turning the whole thing into a MASSIVE BASS DRUM

This started at 7:45am. I finished work at 1:00am....

Blackpool Ford Day this coming Sunday and guess what.....yep, the forecast is rain yet again. I really am starting to think having my Escort is a friggin waste of time, nearly every show this year has been cancelled because of the weather or it has pissed down and been a waste of time anyway.

The Blackpool thing has been a washout for the last 2 years as well IIRC.

Nah last year was quite good weather, the year before was worse than this year..... yours was one of the two pale gold escorts I take it?

I may have helped save that Ambassador, I told a facebook contact about the car yesterday and he's now coming from Wales to view it tomorrow in order to buy it.

Sadly it's right in front of the security building.

I might ask for it as recompence for duress..

Posted

I'll create a distraction at the other end of the site, white van and scruffy hi vis jacket posing as scrap thieves.

"Your DPD delivery will arrive between 17:07 and 18:07." Sadly it hasn't. Was hoping to have the BX up and working again by now. Fiddlesticks.

The text message came through at about 8am this morning! I thought it was a bit precise. Turns out it was just wrong.
