The grumpy thread

To be fair though, not as rubbish as some 17th rate musicians judging a 'talent' show.

Who were these 'experts' 'judging' this 'talent' 'show' this time around? ? Steven Hawking? Some deaf person? The rotting corpse of a long dead soap opera star who hated music anyway? "I thought your clothes were nice, and the dancing moves of the 50 people on stage with you was also lovely, but the way you mimed through that rendition of some fucking awful pop song from the 2000's didn't do it for me, but you are reasonably good looking in that trilby, tartan vest, and drainpipe pants (you cunt) and whatever I say doesn't matter as nobody will give a shit in a month, so I say 'you're through' "

I hate musical genres but you can easily classify it into two sections - music for people who like music, and music for people who hate music (Coldplay, LMFAO, Rhianaa, and all pop music shite of today). :D

I only watch the news at night and in the morning as it's the only thing on worth watching which says a lot.

It was the original but I did not bother watching it as it was last on just a few months ago.

It gets on my tits that there are THOUSANDS of great films out there but all the channels seem to take turns in showing the same films. I have lost count of the amount of times that Falling Down has been on various channels in the last year or so. Same with Demolition man. Both great films to sit down and mindlessly watch IMO but they don't need to be on that often.

Instead of showing the Italian Job again, why not show the IPCRESS File which I have not seen for sodding years.

It was nice to see One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest on the BBC last night. Not seen it in years so have recorded it and may watch it tonight. But the BBC is another grump. Why do they insist on showing such a crap selection of late night films that nobody has ever heard of? Surely showing a different older film that at least got a cinema release would be a better idea. There was a film called underclassman on last week. Never heard of it (although I might have just missed it). Why not show something like Assassin (the remake of Nikita, not the Stallone Banderas film) or Leon, or if they want a comedy My Cousin Vinny or Friday or something off the top of my head.

Anyhow, off topic a bit here. Have a car related film clip:

The show the Ipcress File quite often.

Last night "Das Boot" was on at the same time as OFOTCN, which was a bit irritating as they're both brilliant films.

I like Clint Eastwood, but the Clint Eastwood season took the mick, as do all their film seasons. They repeat them non-stop.

Is it. There goes my grump. I must keep missing it.

I have the series of Das Boot on Doovd. Its one of my all time favourites. I remember watching it on Sunday nights on BBC2 when I was a kid, probably about aged 8. Scared the shit out of me as it was probably the first proper adult program I watched that I could actually understand/have an interest in.

If it was 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly' it's worth watching 100 times in a row.

I could never get tired watching any of the Dollar trilogy. Then there is Unforgiven, which is also a candidate for best western ever made

The first three Dirty Harry films weren't bad. The original is on my top ten films list.

A young lad, a family friend, died in a single vehicle crash on Saturday, near Selby. 22.... no age to go. Seems he lost control of his Corsa.. early morning. Who knows what the cause was.......... I have seen my youngest Stepson go off to war twice, and many of his friends, all returned, safe and sound. Yet this friend was just coming home from 30 miles up the road. Just pisses me off. I really feel for his family. :(

TV quality seems to be in inverse correlation to amount paid for said TV services.

Yes yes, I know there's always the option of having no TV, but I can't do without broadband (I tried). And when you take broadband, the TV is only a little bit more, and it's just not worth not having it when there's two sub-teens in the house. It does keep the quiet, being able to watch the same four episodes of Spongehead Squarebob over and over again.

But yeah, all weekend I've been hunting for something - anything - to watch. If you rule out reality shows, soap operas, anything that involves the public (who by definition aren't qualified to be on TV) voting, repeats and irritating twatheads making someone's life better by changing how they dress/eat/fart (see: Gok Wan or any number of doctors). Oh and depressing things - TV used to be for people to see a better life, experience things they wouldn't normally experience.... not to hear how being addicted to heroin rots your anus away or something.

At the moment, Back to the Future II is on. After that, I might go to bed.

Edit: But what makes me sadder is that I'm whinging about TV when people are dying at 22 :(

Wow, can't imagine how his family & friends must feel. It's wrong to think about what might've happened, but speaking for myself, I still believed I was practically invincible at 22, especially behind the wheel, and especially when I was alone. All it takes is for a corner to be slick with moisture, or for something/someone to run out/drift across the road in front... Horrible though, can only hope that it was all over quickly

Can't bloody sleep. This is no doubt largely down to my contact at work having ended, and I haven't got a fucking clue what to do next. Given that I'm a bloody social worker the obvious thing would be another social work job, but I'm not sure I can stand it. Considering jumping out of the frying pan into the fire by 'investing' some inheritance money into doing my HGV license.

Oh and my best mates dad has just died.

My condolences to those who have also suffered a loss.

Cats

One of the "little darlings" just ran upstairs, jumped onto the bedside cabinet and vomited his breakfast all over the jeans and jumper I was about to put on. It's bad enough scooping cat food out of the tin into the bowls without having to scoop warm cat food off clothes before sticking them in the washer!

Oh, and while I was doing that, one of the others went to the litter tray and stank the entire downstairs out. Bah. I'm off to look for more clean clothes.

Another night of about 3 hours sleep due to water leaking into my room. This time I planned ahead and had a bucket in place, which had collected 7 litres by this morning

Christ, that's terrible news Albert. It's frightening to just think of how horrible it must be to lose someone so young and (fwiw) sympathies to you and the family and friends of the young lad.

Posted

I know this pales to nothing against the sad events above, but... I've just composed my monthly round of local-paper ads for the various things I'm trying to sell. Including, for the first time, some of my mint-and-boxed Vanguards models, and two of my display cabinets. :( I've also listed the Granada on Autotrader.com.cy in the hope of someone elsewhere on the island wanting it.

I have no words for how shitty all these deaths are getting, and the people that are affected by it. I keep worrying it's going to be my turn to lose someone next and I don't have many people left these days :( My condolences, Albert, to you and the lad's family and friends, that really is just too horrible.

Trust me Dave that's actually a good advert for Swapz. It really is moron central on there most of the time. Don't get me wrong there are some great deals to be had and decent people on there but alas they're few and far between now.

I was just about to point out that this should be in the grin thread. Then I realised it was probably written by an actual person, who is allowed to breed.

just get rid of the thing over the bridge and make the world a better place!

The experience of using Swapz summed up:

Swapz user: "I really want to swap my item for yours!"

Me: "Really?"

Swapz user: "No."

I've never had any luck due to this ^. And people offering Mondeos.

One person at work taking a shortcut has just meant the last months work I've done now has to be undone.

On the plus side it means my contract here will potentially be extended ... to do the work all over again.

Could you not just rent some obscure film from Blockbusters that your tutor would never of seen before and hand that in?
