The grumpy thread

Bit late in the day, but RE: The GS fiasco, GS engines have been used before as light aircraft and helicopter powerplants. I have no proof of this and no idea where I read it, but it definitely happened, so this bloke may not be the total looney toon he seems. He is still a cock though, natch.

While UK enjoys a nice long weekend, China enjoys a 5 day holiday and Thailand stops for something or other, why do I find myself half way through yet another 16 hour day? Extra grumpy about this as I am predominantly working outside at the moment and this worrying statistic accompanied us on the short journey between zones:

Yesterday's 36 was bad enough. 46 degrees is absolute torture.

This cheered me up this morning though.

And immediately after my last posting, my computer did what it often does, and randomly shut down for a restart. It's taken me 8 minutes to sit watching it go through all its startup, and re-log in to msn and here. Bo-lerks. Fucking technology. Why can't things just fucking work????

Whip the side panel off and see if it is clogged up with dust, can cause overheating that triggers a reboot. Best blown out with an airline but pin the fans with a non-conductive stylus (wooden/plastic skewer works well) to stop them spinning and generating and EMF that will fry semiconductors.

If you don't need Windows for gaming, try Linux.

I stupidly yanked the mains lead from my oldish Linux machine a while back, plugged it back in and without touching anything it booted up and was back with all the web pages in all the browsers back as they were 85 seconds earlier. It remembered everything just as it was down to the post that I was halfway through.

Impressed the hell out of me.

The old machine is still faster than the much newer laptop with twice the spec but running Windows.

I don't know what the birds round my way are eating, but their shit is unbelievable. It's like there are huge dinosaurs flying around cacking everywhere. Spent ages yesterday hosing and scrubbing patio areas.....again.

What sort of computer is it, ER? Sounds like an overheat protection shutdown.

It's my considered opinion that the seller of that GS is a MASSIVE BELLEND, if only for the "condition of sale" rubbish that he's trying to impose.

Have you seen the latest addition to his Ebay ad? He's more than doubled the asking price and is calling people nazis in the Q&A section. What a tool.

Jesus what a complete and utter twat, he's 'released' a question (a perfectly fair question in my opinion) he was asked by a club member and this is his response:

Q: Why are you breaking a perfectly decent GS Estate? This is causing much discussion on the Citroen Car Club site. If you want a decent GS/A engine for your plane then there are plenty available through the CCC. Please reconsider this auction and sell the complete vehicle for a sensible price to someone who will use it as its maker intended. Rob 29-Apr-11

A: So speaks the voice of someone obviously aquainted with the CCC. Quote:- "sell the complete vehicle for a sensible price to someone who will use it as its maker intended." This is not good publicity for the CCC. This is more akin to comments that I would have expected to have come from an Ayran Nazi rally. A belief that makes out his own use of a vehicle is 'superior' to mine. How is your vehicle use different to mine? This rhetoric does not go down too well. Did you know the maker? Apologies to those of you easy going "good" people of the CCC. There must be many of you reasonable people out there, battling away doing a grand job of keeping cars going. But I have to point out this. Not that I am special in anyway at all. I have lots of faults. But if there were more of you like myself, who buys a 21 year old car and keeps it going for another 12 years and it still looks like this.......there would be *many* more GS's around. What were you doing in the 90's when I bought this car? Polishing your then new Ford Orion? It now appears my "use" of my car is wrong to some. For your information my obviously "inferior use" of Citroens has involved driving from Europe to Asia, bringing back my DS from New Zealand to the UK, emitting flat four burbles all over South Africa, driving a 2CV around parts of the Arctic Circle in *winter*. I am not part of the Broederbond obviously. Sell the vehicle at a "sensible" price? This is an interesting concept. I believe in free markets. A car club member no doubt that undervalues the value of a car, which as a car club is seeking to apply value to. You get what you pay for. If more people put their money where there mouth is, there would be a lot more GS's left. I am not a charity subsidising GS's 4u! You know these are rare, yet this attitude is killing more. What incentive does a non CCC member like myself have for dealing with the CCC? Wrong school tie? If you had Free ads for non members..you would have seen this G. CCC Wake up!

Now don't get me wrong, I what someone does with they're own car rare or not is their choice nobody else's but here we have a chap trying to sell a car that is currently complete but the final sale will not included several crucial componants, who the fuck does that? either break it now and sell the bits or sell the whole car but not both. I've done my fair share of breaking fairly rare cars because nobody wanted them as a whole and they were worth more in parts but the point is they were sold as a whole or the parts listed and sold seperately.

I think he's gone over the top with his reply to the question he was asked, fucking hell if I needed an engine it would save alot of dicking about buying another engine and selling his GS as a whole, but then his car, his choice.

Posted

If he actually advertised the complete car at a sensible price then it would have sold by now. However he's decided to put a stupid fucking tag on it then goes all cry baby when it (unsurprisingly) doesn't sell.

I hope he gets the same sort of 'winning' bidders Bol's had to put up with and it costs him a mint in listing fees.

Clearly a buffoon with a grudge against the CCC. In fact, the more you look at it, the more it seems deliberately staged to upset folk.

thats the way i saw the ad.

he's offered it to CCC and they offered 50 quid

Posted

That as maybe, but by doing so he's probably closed the door on the one group that would have been interested in it. That said, if they have offered him jack shit then I can understand his anger (to some extent - the rest of it is pompous bluster). I have several banger racer friends who've ended racing cars out of spite because they've offered it to whatever Owners' Club out there and an insulting amount has been banded about. While this situation isn't same, the sentiment is similar.

Sometimes this mentality occurs between clubs and who they consider to be 'outsiders'. Although in this case they appear to be fucking over one of their own. Seems like your everyday interniscene bust - up. It's one of the reasons why I'm not keen on clubs.

The trouble is, this bloke has an inflated sense of what his car is worth. Going off eBay, his Break (complete) would have gone for between £800 - 1200 if it was as good as he says it is. Probably £800 - 1000 for a saloon (because the Breaks never appear) and maybe a few hundred quid more for an estate, because of their scarcity.

While I can *sort of* see where he's coming from, doubling the price of an engineless shell that had no bids minus random other parts beforehand is completely insane. Engineless, that shell is worth next to nothing, even to the CCC. Why he can't just buy a S\H engine from them with the money he would have had from a sale of the complete car is beyond me.

He's just being an arrogant little shit to be honest. I suspected as much when he was asking £400 for a gutted shell, but his latest outburst has just confirmed it. The massive irony that he seems to have missed is the fact that another GS (and a Break at that) is going to for a Burton because no one is prepared to save it.

Well, I wouldn't give £3800 for a GS Break, unless it was the last in existence and \ or minter than mint. That's what he wanted for it on Car & Classic. Really it's a sad case of both owner and club digging themselves in and refusing to budge.

What will happen to that car now is anyone's guess.

He's still a cock BUT I can see his point about the adverts.

If I go to a site and you have to join or pay to advertise then I won't simple as that.

It's a big two fingers to put off someone who maybe a new member when you can't even read or reply to adverts too.

That was one of his few intelligible points, and a fair one I thought.

But then again the car's going to end up unsold, and another GS is going to disappear. Ironically, this owner says he against this. Sadly, a lot of clubs are like the CCC in this regard.

I was told about a gs for sale-ish. It may still be for sale. 500 was the price as far as I can remember. I can dig the details out on Tuesday when back at work.

The GS guy is a fuggin grade A bell-ringer, I had a bit of a convo with him and his point was that its been for sale for 5 years and no-one's bought it so fugg it he'll break it for parts. But, he's got it advertised for almost £4k so no-one is gonna buy it ever even if its the last one left on earth. He'll never get anything like what its worth as a whole (£1000 or so) if he breaks it. I suggested to him hat he auctions it and lets the market decide what its worth, but he never commented on that. He also seems to think that the next owner is obliged to pay a high price for it cos he's spent a lot on storing it and wants to recoup some of that outlay. ('I didnt spend all that storage money for nothing you know') It took him 1.5 messages before he gave me the 'i'm a registered pilot in 3 different countries' blather as well. He is a fuggin major league turkey.

The guy has clearly got a beef with the CCC thats taken over his life and turned him into a raving loony.

it is a red one, GSA hatch with the plastic rear wing/window cover thing (which I really like), 1981 IIRC, MoT'd too but not used. He's kinda half thinking about selling, it's near Brum. His number and email are at work - so will forward tuesday. I would have bought it at the time but he hummed and hawed about selling and I think a decent chat may prise it from him. I've bought a BX 16 Auto with 46k miles in the meantime and have neither money nor space for a GSA at the moment or I'd chase it myself.

DVLA RANT!

DVLA - it is 8.09PM on the last day of the month - don't you think I might want my new tax disc for my sorned car to start on the first of the month, ie tomorrow - what use is a month's tax if I only have three hours and 51 minutes benefit from it?

Now feck off till tomorrow!

Posted

Re "that GS nutter" - I sent him a message earlier on re his intentions for the engine, and apparently the plane that he's intending to use it in will be based in Sith Ifdika, where I would imagine the regulations are more lax. He also mentioned that he has a mate who is authorised to issue Permits to Fly in South Africa, so I would imagine it's pretty much in the bag.

Posted

I have a DVLA-related grump actually - I rang them this afternoon to enquire about getting an age-related plate for the Renner Six (it's a 1972 car but was imported in 1980 so wears a "V" suffix. According to the woman I spoke to, their computer shows that a "V" suffix is correct for that car and they won't be issuing it with a "K" plate. I challenged her re the rule that says that a registration plate shouldn't make the vehicle look younger than it is, and she made confused noises, but basically "computer says no" won the day. So if I want the proper plate for the year of the car I'm going to have to fork out for a private plate, which is an arse. It's not the end of the world or owt, I just think the car looks wrong on a "V" plate.

Just ring again in a few days, you'll get someone else on the line who might not be a feckless taff ass-clown, and who will make a bit more effort to help. Of course you might get someone even less helpful who accidentally sends you a few fines for spurious stuff you've never heard of before. Spin that wheel!

I can make one out of headlights and indicator stalks if you want. I have a twin plug conversion manual in the crack of my arse somewhere. It's all good. I can then curl out a hollow shit that's worth even less than normal, whack it on eBay and double my price after several outbursts inspired by willful stupidity.

I can then write a stiff letter of complaint to the CCC about why I have to pay 20 p to take a crap in a British Rail toilet. I mean! How dare they? I've left a trail of poo all over the world, I've got the right tie and everything.

Right, off to fly my poo plane into a fan of discontent. I am brilliant.

Yea, verily.

That's nothing, on mine they put my nationality as Rhodesian. I phoned them up and they said they'd sort it, a few weeks later I heard nothing so I called again. Eventually I got through to a manager, it turns out that due to there being no way on the system of changing the nationality, they weren't able to do anything about it! I just ignored it, but it all escalated when I was pulled over one night and ended up facing deportation to my "home" country. Luckily there was no way for me to return as it no longer existed, what with it being Zimbabwe since the 1980s. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I became an asylum seeker and now I live in a 50-bedroom house with a plasma screen and a swimming pool full of gold coins like the intro to Ducktales.
