Lorry drivers, when you being loaded with a container make sure the frame of the crane is off it before you drive off down the quay with a 130 ton crane still connected to your box...

 WTF!!!!!!!!!

I'd never do that!

Most don't to be fair but this Safepac driver just did, he got 30ft away with me hammering the klaxton before he stopped, i managed to get the frame off him only just missing the wagon behind him with the swing and then he just buggered off with the box not even landed on his back pins.

It amazes me how some of these blokes even got a HGV licence sometimes.

Posted

That's a good question, I think it is possible but i doubt it would get that far, the worse thing would be that the box would come of the back of the trailer and swing into the lorry that was queueing up behind it, I'd doubt that there would be much left of him after a 30 ton box had bowled straight through the cab... :?

On another note which could be controversial, I find it a bit sad when i read some threads about a old car that been bought and then hear about how it's going to be cut about with so it can be modified.

The one that's made me say this is the one on RR at the moment here on page 5 http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... 700&page=5 . The Victor looks pretty tidy so to hear about it getting "slammed" and all the wooden dash trim getting stripped out sounds a bit sad really.

Posted

It is sad given how rare those are. Still, is it any worse than someone buying it, running it for a bit, letting it get a bit rotten, then shoving it in the garage where it continues to fester until utterly ruined? Doesn't take a modifier to ruin cars necessarily...

I don't suppose you have to suffer some lift tank drivers in your work do you Trig? Met a few really good ones over the years and a small minority of weapons grade bellends who I wouldn't trust to pass me a bottle of water, let alone drive off with 25 tonnes of dodgy chemicals.

+1 on that Victor by the way. It'll be a shame to see one as nice as that pissed about with though as DW says at least it'll be used I suppose.

We get some containerlift trucks come in, they are a PITA to load as they have chains everywhere and it's very tight getting a 40ft box between the arm on the trailer that takes the containers off, all the tanks that we load seem to be 20ft ones onto normal skeleton trailers.

End of the road for the Nimrod :( 9 aircraft that were being refurbished at massive expense are being cut up and scrapped in the next few days due to budget cuts. Two had been completed, too. 4 Billion quid down the pan- the government even had to pay £200 million to terminate the contract early. Dunno how the U.K is meant to do maritime reconnaissance now..

To be fair the new MR4A version is over nine years overdue and the project has been a nightmare from start to finish, but it is a sad end to an iconic British aircraft. The Comet, the airliner on which the Comet is based first flew over 60 years ago!

Austrian man has 'MINI' tattooed on his penis to win a brand new Mini Cooper

I'll bet he's glad they weren't offering a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Park Avenue!

I'd do it, it's not like anyone would ever see it anyway.

Oh wait, I mean I'd do if it was for a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 3 door in Moonstone Blue with the stereo that had the separate equaliser

[Pedant mode] That'll be a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance, actually, Park Avenue was a Buick. [/Pedant mode]

And here is a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance, lo and behold! This was the 1979 version...

...my first Cadillac (I love being able to say that!). :D

Hey! Maybe the ChiComs will do it on outsource!

Don't laugh. I wonder who'll be making a profit out of it though? I know we have a deficit, but more millionaires are made during recession than during boom.

End of the road for the Nimrod :(

I pass two decomissioned Hercules fuselages on my way to work each morning. They’re being stripped on a former Wartime airfield.

Had a wander round what you might call an aviation factor just down the road and drew up a fantasy short list of people I’d like to see fired out of the ejector seat he had for sale

If he'd just showed them his bellend he'd have probably got one anyway.

I'd like to nominate MX 5 owners. Mostly because they're pricks.

Do you live near Hixon airfield then? I used to deliver scrap and collect ingot from an aluminium smelters over the road from there.

^ No, I work that way. That smelting plant is not very popular in the village. The flip side of its environmental commendations is the purple haze that engulfs the school and housing estate almost every time it rains. A bit like what used to happen in Northwich with ICI.

Some interesting shite does turn up in the commercial scrap yard near to those Hercules though. I'll have to get around to shoving some of it up here.

I appear to have pissed an MX 5 owner off.

You can't just leave it there! How??? And how did you discover your error?

A thread on NSJC got out of hand. I happen to have driven two Miatas in the US and they were bloody awful. I suspected they were a bit knackered and said on post that if I could drive a decent one I probably would be agreeing with the 'OMG TRU SPORTSCAR DEY R BRILLIANT SO CONTROLLABLE DRIFT SLIDE TOP FUN' sentiment posted up by everyone else.

One lad on there has an MX-5. And disagreed rather strongly with what I posted, saying that I hated MX-5s regardless and that I was pathetic and attacking him personally. I don't get MX-5s in the same way that I struggle to appreciate Golfs, and I wasn't attacking him or his bloody car.

As it turns out, this particular poster (also a Ford fan) took exception to an earlier comment I made comparing a V6 Capri to a Piazza but said nothing at the time.

He took it personally, it all got a bit messy, and it appears to be resolved now because he sent me a PM saying sorry. And to be fair, I understand [some] of his objections. I'm about to ping a PM off apologising also and explaining myself in a bit more detail.

Unfortunately the thread appears to have been spirited away, so I can't post the grisly affair up for your delectation.

People do take stuff personally, don't they? I think that's a big part of what's wrong with so-called "society" these days. Along with simple pleasures like greed and corruption, of course. I'm with you, if it helps: I don't "get" Golfs either, and have no strong feelings for the Mazda, which might partly be because I haven't driven one yet.

Shock! There's a car I haven't driven? How did that happen??????

I loved my MX5, best handling car I've ever owned. But not everyone will like them

Stu, this is the thing that caused me to stick my neck out.

I had a feeling the cars I drove were shonky and said it on post several times, along the lines of 'Someone let me have a go in a good one and I'll take back what I said'. But he didn't like that, and carried on regardless. He made it personal and I responded in kind.

Etc.

I think you probably did have a Friday afternoon special. Without wanting to turn into Troy Queef, the one I had just felt "right" from the first time I drove it

I drove a early MX-5 1.6i many years ago and quite enjoyed it, I found it pretty nippy, handled well and the driving position was pretty good for someone who's 5ft 11, I did think it was a bit girly though.

But that doesn't account for much though as i also once collected a MGF VVC from a garage, told everyone who'd listen about how great it was to drive only for the boss to come back from delivering it back to the garage after fixing to tell me about how it was a heap of shit and how the car shock so badly he couldn't take it over 50 mph.
