Just beautiful. It's like a form of poetry.

need more swears, then its something Malcolm Tucker would be proud of

I'm not entirely against then, but I am against the nobbish ones. They're very useful around here to make it easier to spot your pals. Quite a lot of folk have them, but often just initials and fairly random numbers. There's a Mk3 Golf with the number plate Bxxx MAY. I've never found out why.

X6 BMW plates are truly nobbish though. Especially when they've obviously downsized to an X3 and discovered that what they paid for the X6 plate was too much, so they've kept it.

I'm torn. I hate them. But I also want one. When I was a wee sprog I had a bloody fantastic pedal powered American Jeep (called the Mushroom Saab for reasons I'm not entirely sure about but I do recall my dad had a Saab at the time). It had the number plate WOLF1, which to eight year old me was the COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD.

The X6 and BNZ types are what I was taking the piss out of when I put SK10ODA on my Skoda.  Some people got the joke, some people thought I was sad, some VRS fans got excited about it.  Must get around to selling it to one of the latter.

never quite understood the appeal. Do people think "Oh I like playing Golf so if I spend ££££ on a plate that says 91 Ron, then space it wrongly so it looks like 9 IRON and yet inexplicably pass an MOT with it like that, people in traffic will know I like Golf"

Personally I couldn't give two shiny shites, it ain't my money. But if I did have spare ££££ I don't think I would buy a number plate advertising my spare time hobbies. And I imagine L4UN D8Y is probably expensive....

Put welding glove on right hand cos stove is hot. Open stove door. Then chuck a log in using left hand, burn the fuck out of a finger for stove is hot. I is spaz.

I don't plan on losing any money on the Skoda plate.  Yes it's tied up two hundred quid for a few years, but if I don't get that back when I get around to selling it then I've cocked up somewhere.

If I saw someone running around with 91 RON on the back of the car I'd just assume it ran on 2-star like my old Polo did.

I don't.

In fact, I must be the thickest twat around when it comes to figuring out what those extra cost plates are supposed to mean.

The overwhelming majority means absolutely nothing to me.

Ebay are being twats again. Bought a new laptop battery 2 months ago and it's now completely dead. Tried contacting the seller but he just ignored me, so I decided to open a case against him. Can't get anywhere though as they won't let me open a case for an item I've already received because the seller doesn't have a returns policy and all they suggest I do is message the seller, which I've already done and been ignored. That's just GR2 - anyone more experienced with the in and outs of ebay have any suggestions on how to proceed?

And the Regtransfers mag - what a bunch of snobbish arseholes showing off their shiny German blandmobiles, uber-successful careers and stupid contrived number plates.

I've been in that reg transfers magazine (kind of).

I don't like them I think term vanity plates describes them well.

I have G68 GUY on a sorned V5 which I can't bear to send off as scrapped. Just seems a shame, no value in it I guess, I may just transfer it onto a decent car one day.

A number plate that says 'Wolf 1' is cool as fuck, no debate about that. But 'M 8OME'??? SRSLY these people need their assets requisitioning by the state and auctioned off.

There is a guy round here with FF54 COF on his Nissan Navaro.

edit...

Reason(s) for failure

Front registration plate has a feature which changes the appearance or legibility of the characters (6.3.4c)

Rear registration plate has a feature which changes the appearance or legibility of the characters (6.3.4c)

I think that's it. Having to explain to someone that you spent actual hard-earned money on having the lettering for your number plate read something if you squinted and explained it makes you a fully qualified bellend. Then proudly showing it off in some mag for equal minded cocks is off the scale. Then add Russell Kane.

Couldn't give a fuck I like mine.

40th birthday present from wife and kids. It has been on the same car almost 6years now.

Honestly who actually gives a shit is some random numbers and letters assigned to a random car you just happen to own can be changed for some other random number that you, being a fuckwit, think mean something.

Whats wrong one with what it came with and why the fuck would you want to random passer by to think "oh there goes (insert name) in his shit car", what a load of old shit!

Posted

I know plenty of people who name their cars based on the random selection of letters in the plate.

I paid an extra 40 quid to have a custom serial number on my telly that spells out my initials backwards. Im sure the TV repair man would be impressed.

This is going well. Some of us have plates and some don't.

Down to choice I think.

Plenty of posts asking things like "what can I buy for £xxx, or any recommendations for such and such car for my mother/daughter/father in law etc. Not once have I seen one of the recommendations taken up. ( Although am probably wrong)

Usually ends in "thanks anyway, but..." Etc.

Why ask? Am I being naive?

Usually preceded with "I've looked everywhere"

which actually means "I've looked on eBay"

TRW: story time?

Am I having much luck recently? Yes, all of it bad.

I had so shift the MG recently as its going back on the road (recent engine swap) so asked my father for some help with A-framing it 20 miles across the City.

On the day in question I set up the frame and connected it to his Freelander, rigged up the tail board and set him on his way with the instructions to drop it at our compound and I would remove the frame off it later as he's 70 and not the slimmest of chaps to be crawling underneath a ZR.

About 40 mins later my father is at my front door. Asking him how he is back so soon he tells me that the pin on the frame has snapped and the car went towards the pavement, showing me the frame it looks like fatigue. He informs me that the MG is now on the bypass up on the verge. So, knowing I have to move it sharpish I grab a towrope and head down with him to move it to a private car park nearby where he described the incident happening.

Upon arriving at the car Trafpol are at the scene having had a report from a concerned motorist that a car is abandoned on the bank with no licence plates fitted to it. Asking me how it got there I explained the scenario of the A-frame snapping and telling him I've turned up with this rope to move it to a factory car park about half a mile away, until I can sort a trailer off one of my contacts later in the day.

A long conversation begins about the legalities of using A-frames on cars without current test. I point out that the car was set up correctly, is a fully intact, presentable and working car and IMO would have no problems passing the current M.O.T test standard, something I want to do in the next few weeks. The only reason it is stranded here is because of the pin shearing leaving one man with the impossible task of two cars to move. Not a good enough excuse.

This is how its going to be Mr TRW. The car is now being recovered to our contractors compound in West Swansea and if you want it back you'll have to pay the release fee of £150 and £20 per day thereafter.

Also, as it is now on the road I am also reporting you for keeping an uninsured vehicle on a public highway.

Is there anything you would like to say?

Yes. Fucking Cunt.

It cost me to get it back -

£170 for recovery and 1 day storage.

£40 to hire a trailer

£40 or so in Diesel.

Insurance to get the car released

About £20 in phone calls being arsed about by South Wales finest.

Stress, lots.

Oh, and I may be summonsed in court for no insurance.

I'm not a fan, up to the individual but not my scene. Like MrB it's the ones that are explained as an anagram but with some of the letters wrong that baffle me. Also I refuse to be convinced that the number 7 is a good substitute for the letter R or whatever.

There's also the more personal showing off types that irk me, like a family I know who got there 10 year old a private number that kind of spelled her name. What is a 10 year old going to do with a number plate (or rather a piece of paper that says she can apply for that number)?

I like some of them round here because they are Welsh words, but that's more to do with my ego; I'm impressed that I worked them out.

I saw one which I thought might be taking the micky out of private regs: D1 ENW which is Welsh for "no name", but then I discovered there is a Welsh band called "di enw" so it might just be one of them: less impressive.

Fucking miserable bastards. They did a great days work helping the public and keeping everyone safe there.
