Replacing alternator belt etc. Left ven door resting on latch. My stupid fault seeing as it has no door stays. Wind got behind it,blew it right round breaking hinges. Wasn't the best to start with but its my fault for not shutting ot fully

I hold my hands up to this one! Entirely my fault.

Brushroll or motor works intermittantly? Brushroll worn? Brushroll bearings seized?

brush roller was running all the time cos the clutch pack was worn, now, the brush don't run at all and the on/off button on the machine isn't working.

i want to turn it on, i turn on the switch on the plug socket, i want to turn it off, then i have to pull the plug out or turn it off at the wall.

and i'm threw with it. so its going in the bin.

and i'm not going to have another one.

Least youve learnt! I nearly had a mk5 golf bonnet on my head earlier in the same scenario (i had my head by the alternator)

By cripers you need that Gypsy curse lifting, have a hot bath, brush your teeth with bicarb, put on clean clothes and burn what you wore earlier, eat some garlic, find a Gypsies grave and stand over it while you recite the Lords prayer and see how it goes.

MarvinsMom. The clutch you bought what dyson is it from? how much do you want for it?

Bub do you believe in Karma??

You need to start doing lots of charity work immediately.

So the old door, does it have a complete door catch assemble? I'll buy it off you if it does

600 quid to get your car back off the bastard coppers for no reason at all???? That's fucking properly terrible, I think I would kill myself in protest if that happened to me. Who do you even complain to? I wouldn't know where to start.

I've got British Gas cover for the heating system so I managed to get an engineer visit today.... the heating system isn't leaking, it's the roof that's doing it (the insulation is soaked).  Bugger.  That's not going to be cheap, and I've just bought a car.

It really does seem to be a case of "innocence is no excuse". You would think that if you handed your documents in and they were in order you would get a free pass and maybe even an apology, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

That's why I recommend day insurance to anybody who asks about moving a vehicle with uncertain insurance status. I wouldn't even drive a new acquisition home now without having my own insurance on it.

I don't get this - seems like the police are making up the law. The law says you have to have insurance, which you do, and be able to produce proof within seven days, which you could. I don't believe the law requires you to be on MID nor carry your certificate, whatever the police might think. Innocent until proven guilty is a fundamental part of our system - again, whatever the police might like to think.

Seems like you have a very good case to sue for all of the costs back, plus inconvenience? But what do I know, maybe Mr Breadvan can offer slightly more accurate suggestions...

One of the coppers asked me 'Are you having money troubles?', so he clearly didn't believe me I had insurance. I felt a bit insulted getting asked that; what if I was, was he trying to get me to start crying about my money troubles and 'fess up.

The last time I was pulled in this car (about two months ago), a copper told me I HAD to register the number plate with my insurance if I own it within two weeks. I said I was a trader with a trader's policy and the policy covers me whatever the case - is this true? I didn't argue the case as I was unsure.

He also REALLY lamb-basted me as I laughed when I got out of the car because I said to my mate five minutes prior 'I always get pulled in this car'. I said that was an unnecessary observation and explained exactly why I laughed. Idiot.

BTW I've only ever driven the car sensibly, and I'm not moaning about the injustices of it all and getting anti-police about it.

Your policy covers you whatever the case if you're driving within the terms of your policy. But why on earth, if you've been stopped in it a few times, didn't you just put it on the database? It doesn't cost you anything and it's two minutes work online. You know you're likely to get a pull. I'm sure you need to register stuff you're keeping for more than a set period (14 days?) on MID.

As is so often the case, when one hears the full story, the viewpoint changes.

You could, and should, have prevented it from happening.

the fookin' dyson seems to be working for now, other half has used a blend* of the old one and the sooper dooper new one.

the new clutch which is now in bits was an ebay speshull, supposedly a brand new one for a DC04-07-14? we found that the belt too the bush bar was a good bit shorter than the one which was on the machine.

machine is on a final warning, next time it ceases to work, its hammer time for it....

Posted

Their always much shorter when new though, as the old one is stretched. Ask Manchester vacs to sort you out a nice, really belted clutch

I just had my renewal on the trade policy and they are really pushing the "you must update the MID within 14 days" thing. Yes you will be covered but if it is in your stock it must be on the MID. My new policy is with LV and it was so easy they give you a small card with the free phone number on for updating. The latest car was on the MID before I even hung up. Shame the DVLA aren't as quick. If you have had it 2 months and not updated then sorry that was asking to get pulled.

Well it has finally stopped blowing several different gales so now it is pissing it down instead. Proper rain as well, real wet stuff. Not happy!

I've got a web based login for updating MID, it means that even dead lagunas on a sunday morning are on the database and I keep it saved as a bookmark on my phone just in case I get a pull from the law.

"It's not on the MID? Sorry officer! **swipe, click click type** Check again pls?"

I do this on my phone with mot insurance and tax and usually carry paper copies too just in case as I am old enough not to trust electronics and there is no way Mr plod is going to leave me on the side of the road with no car and if they still do I will happily take their compensation money

Bavarianretro is right, laughing about always getting stopped in the car but not adding it to mid was never going to end well, if you put you hand in a lions mouth expect to get bitten.

As a side note how much are you guys paying for trade insurance.

We had to buy another battery operated door bell thing as the last one died.

The new one was fitted with our rechargeable AA batteries. The old chime case was on the side, the new one next to it. I threw the wrong one out.

Yes, I should have checked but the 'new' one looked a bit more worn.

I am the biggest kitten killer in the universe, rant, rant, rant, rant.

Oh just fuck off.

It cost a fiver FFS and here, have some replacement rechargeable batteries.

Getting very irritated globally

For all your Feds / MID issues, why not explain to the Coppers that you're not driving a car, but travelling in a non commercial fashion, tell them you don't consent to their demands and that you're feeling distressed and Frank Spencer harassment, swear at them a bit, produce a scale of charges you shall invoice them for, don a tin foil hat, quote the forth amendment. Rip off the number plates, fuck them away and point at your motor whilst shouting repeatedly about it not being a car but a personal conveyance. Should this fail to result in the Bobbies sending you on your way with their warmest regards then there's a legal chap on here who I'm sure will be delighted to help you out of whatever the consequences.

Once you update the mid online it can take several days to actually be updated as it has to done manually by the staff once they actually read your update form. Of course you have to get a car seized before you find out this information.....

Posted

My insurance have told me more than once that on-line updating can take a few days to actually register sometimes. If I have notice, I'll add one to the web a few days before I collect 'just in case'

I just phone them. It's done before you're off the phone.

My lot also force you to change your MID access password every month, so, it's a bit of a pain logging in, but the phone system is so easy.

To answer Garbaldy, combined business insurance on a classic car traders policy, covering "any motor vehicle in care, custody or control", comprehensively; road risks and cars in the workshop; customers cars and possessions for theft, damage etc. comprehensively; my own named classic cars comprehensively; my own named daily comprehensively, business and SDP for myself and son and employees, employers liability etc. etc., but not tools or anything belonging to me that's not a car in the premises, is about £2700.

The clutch on the girlfriends Ka (I know) is on the way out and I'm going to have to change it. I expect it's going to be a right pain in the arse...

No bad but no drain plug on the gear box so expect some shiny floor action .

Also some ford passenger side driveshafts can be silly tight to pop out . I take the drivers side out and use an old flat screwdriver to pop it through the diff
