richardmorris Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Mercedes has not moved for a fortnight so thought I’d start it up to check everything still worked. An inch of water in the driver’s side front and rear! Mats out and I moved the car and parked on a slope nose down so all the water drained to the front, then left the heater on max for a while. I’ve put it under cover for now as it’s still waiting for the merc man to look at the balljoint. The 2cv is now taking it’s chances outside. The water settles inside on whichever side is downhill. All the drains are clear but I think the air box intake on the bulkhead isn’t sealed any more. I also spent an hour this morning renewing my passport online- 57 minutes of which was getting it to accept my photo upload. The best photos it kept rejecting as it said my mouth was open. It wasn’t obviously, the one it liked in the end was one I took in the bathroom to get a bit more light on a pale wall. Still, I look thinner than the last one which isn’t bad! Hopefully it won’t be rejected as I have a beard now.

Mr A Lawrence Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 kind of an FTP of sorts....... driving home from ellesmere port today and there was an almighty bang from the front of the mondeo followed by tinkling sound and something fell off the car. no lights or noises or strange behaviour so pressed on. got into st asaph and made a tight left hand turn and a noise like a spring shifting sounded. yep, broken spring on the offside front. fair play to the garage, they said bring it in on monday and we'll put a new spring on it. only had it a month!!! dave21478 Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 One of those days. Spannering under the panda the ratchet slipped and I slapped myself in the face...no biggie, but bent my glasses. So out with the pliers and i will just ever so gently bend them ba...SNAP.... Cunt. Still got an old pair so put them on but they are screwed up with grinding sparks. Spex4less to the rescue, hopefully. Spannering under the panda....yes a pattern is forming here.... and two captive nuts for the suspension have broken loose since I took the bolts out and not touched it since....how the fuck does that happen? so that means taking the front bumper off and cutting open the front crossmember to weld them back on and then weld up the hole. Great. In need of fuel hose, I razzed down to town in the MGF....sunny, warm day so first of the year with the roof down looking like the sad, fat, bald, mid-life crisis wanker that I really am, Not one single motor factors had any 8mm fuel hose. wtf? I eventually found some in an engineering supplies place, but I literally cant bring myself to tell you how much they charged me. fuckin ouch. Should have ordered some online, but that means waiting till next weekend at best before I can get on with the job. DIY shops...if you are out of stock of the decent brand of rawl plugs and foist some no-name crap on your customers as a replacement - at least make sure they are fucking fit for purpose. Im no engineering expert, but im pretty sure 6mm plugs shouldnt need a 7mm hole. Obviously i find this out AFTER i have drilled 40-odd holes and blunted three drill bits because its into hard as fuck stone. Re-drill the holes, or wait till Monday and buy better plugs? that means ANOTHER fucking drive to town, which is forty minutes each way.... And then I looked round the garden and realised that spring is right fuckin here....People are mowing lawns already. I was supposed to have got loads of stuff done this winter but the time has just evaporated and half of the stuff i had planned never got done and now I will soon be back into the summer routine at work which leaves fuck-all time for anything else to get done.Need to do this....need to do that....have to order this for that.....its just fucking never ending. Im spending every single waking moment of my life either at work or in the garage fucking about with broken old crap...whether its cars or mowers or other garden equipment....im fucking sick of it, completely, totally, utterly sick of it. I just dont want to do this any more. Then add in that I am angry all the time....not just "a bit miffed", but permanently fucking seething with anger and I dont really know why...angry with other people... angry with myself...angry with the cars...fucking off-the-charts angry with technology...Had a typical event this morning when the dashcam sucker kept falling off the windscreen, so I did the obvious and threw a massive paddy and smashed it to fuck, which didnt solve the problem and just made me even more angry with myself for throwing a tantrum and costing myself more money that I cant afford, to replace it....my teeth are fucked because I am grinding them and clenching my jaw subconsciously all the time... I just dont know what to do. The Reverend Bluejeans 1

warren t claim Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 https://www.dailypost.co.uk/business/business-news/slaters-abergele-close-car-dealership-14370326 Now normally a car dealership shutting down has little sentiment to me but this one closing tugs at my heartstrings. When I was 11 my first teacher in middle school had a Triumph 1300 registered LUN353F with a Slaters Of Abergele circular chrome badge on the rear bumper and when we holidayed in North Wales one of the first signs we were nearly there was when we started seeing Slaters dealer stickers in the back of cars. The first taxed and tested car I bought when I was 17 was a Hunter with a Slaters badge on the bumper. The Reverend Bluejeans and Laseraligningfoofooflanges 2
warren t claim Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Tips and tipping, gratuities as opposed to council refuse facilities. Now as someone whose income is substantially boosted by tips I always tip others when it's expected. Earlier today I picked up a guy who works in an Indian restaurant I frequently use and as we were chatting he told me that even though I asked him while I was paying for a meal whether the tip went to him and he said yes it turns out that he wasn't being truthful. Apparently, all the tips go to the owner and they'd be in trouble if they told the customer that.

Junkman Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Doubleyeller and his rather lovely GF paid a visit to the Junktowers today. That in itself doesn't make me grumpy, but then he forced me to look at a car advertised on what those bloody MIAs at Cars and Classicsevidently consider to be a website.I haven't seen such a miserably feeble attempt at web design since I clicked on Facebook by mistake twenty years ago.Jeezerz Chroist, some things just shouldn't exist.
Ghosty Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Car and Classic's horrible to search. Ads don't seem to expire either and sellers never remove them when a car sells which is annoying. That said you do find some good giffermobiles on there sometimes, amongst all the overpriced shite (no I won't pay £4k for an Audi 80 Coupe).

Not taking any pleasure in your situation, mind, just a "Same as" acknowledgement. Ghosty Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Slim pickings on the interwebs for the sort of car I want. Of course I can find what I want when I'm not ready for it, though... SierraMikeHotel and Tadhg Tiogar 2

Often they say they do get them, but in cases where the body language doesn't look right I will tip cash. That way they have half a chance of keeping it which they probably can't do if you add a few quid onto the debit card transaction. andrew e 1
Angrydicky Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 My cousin is a waitress in a pub/restaurant in Newcastle. She said the tips are all put in a pot and divided up between the waiting staff at the end of the night.I'd never add a 'virtual tip' onto the bill - it's cash or nothing. alf892 1
eddyramrod Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Another vote for cash-only tipping. Meanwhile, I've just had something like 18 hours without my headache. And now it's back. Bugger.
