A couple of days ago I drove past a popular 2nd hand car dealer in Wrexham and at the back of a lot in the corner was this -

anyway, it was evening and the garage was closed so went back today and asked him what the deal was with it.

the fella said that it had come in on a PX and was off to the scrapyard tomorrow morning. Its one elderly lady owner from new, 47k on the clock and in pretty tidy condtion - barring a bit of British Leyland rust here and there.

Tax and Test ended yesterday - but looking at the certificate its only done 1k miles since the last test. the 1600 engine fires up and drives well.

anyway, I bunged him 100 quid and now im the proud owner. Shite-tastic!! :)

OOFF!That should clean up nicely.Good save.

Nice work. Maestros have become a reasonably unusual sight, we shouldn't be letting them go to the crusher unnecessarily.

Yeah i completely agree ,you really don't see many about especially pre 87 MaestrosThere is a club for them and Montegos now which is good because whether you love them or hate them they deserve to be savedcheersRichie :D

Good save there! Nice to know that there are some dealers who see sense - even if it is bending the rules!

Well done there, looks to be a good save as well, my aunt went through about 5 of these so i have a special fondness for them. (as did she)

some pics have been added - detailing some of the little things that need attention.at the end of the day its a 22 year old car so all in all is in very good condition so cant complain too much, especially for what I paid for it!http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=3 ... 2538628..1apologies for those not on facebook or unable to view it for any reason - ill try and upload them elsewhere.Im lucky enough to have 3 good scrapyards local to me, 1 I know has a couple of Maestros in so ill be popping there this week if I get a chance.

Good work mate..Apologies if I missed it - but what sort of mileage has it done? Much history? Ex-pensioner cars can be very good for that sort of thing.Cheers.

sadly apart from the last MOT and a few booklets like a handbook and dealer infomation, it doesnt have any history - apart from a service log with 1 enrty - and that was back in 1988!.the cars done 46k - all in all not bad for a 22 year old motor!

yeah from Wrexham. It was Acton Autos on Chester Road, just around the corner from my house!

Blimming heck, didn't realise you were just across the border from me!Acton have been there years I think, they are not now owned by Brett's are they by any chance? He has the garage at Barnton (Whitchurch Rd) and his lad had one in Acton somewhere on the Chester Road.Must have gone right past your house Sunday before last as was playing football in Wr*xh*m and went down Chester road to get to the pitch.
