@Slowsilver the TL;DR is

any bulb desginated p21/4w should work fine

as thats the type code, just a H4 head lamp bulb is well a H4 head lamp bulb!

Just with more mayonaise on the chips! The factory is long gone apparently, so no pilgrimages are possible...

ah slight correction on the base front looks like they are BAZ15d

(BAW15d is similar but with the offset pin facing upwards)

Oh brilliant. Not only do they have offset pins but they do the offset in two different directions! As if it wasn't complicated enough already. But at least these excellent diagrams show definitively that I need a BAZ15d, so I know what to search for. Good job I hadn't ordered a BAW15d. Where did these diagrams come from? Are they online and do they give all the other auto bulb variants?
Many thanks for the info.

I basically boot strapped myself

I did some basic light bulb knowledge googling to pull up something with the base you describe (or so I thought!)

then I looked at what its base designation was  then stuck that into google and a few of the image results are of those "technical drawings" :)

sorry for the confusion at the start! my apologies!

obviously once I got the actual info from your old bulbs etch then I was able to simply look up its type code :)

and that told us everything we needed to know etc, I didn't have to play anymore guessing games etc

but happy to help :)

although there are a million and 1 different types of automotive lamps out there

thankfully  most have their own unique type code, H4, H1 p43t, p21/4w  etc etc

ya get the idea :) so once ya have that type code ya can just shove that into google and you will hopefully get bulbs of the same type!

Let me know if you need any parts as I’m breaking one.

MK2 weatherstrips (top of door exterior) fit MK1's don't they? I can see that Quicksilver needs at least two - otherwise glass will be getting scratched...

Everything! Now!
But, seriously, I am sure there will be many things we need, but haven't really got far enough into this to know what they might be.
What mark and model is the one you are breaking?
When do you need to get rid of it by?
Why are you breaking it? Rotten?

I’ll have a look, which ones?

I think @egg means the rubber sealing strips which fit between the door skin and the bottom of the side window glass.
The front ones are not too bad but both the rear ones had great big lumps of moss growing behind them at the front, which seems to have twisted them out of shape.

I can see these two at least have corrosion on the inside and are beginning to rise up...

Urgh! Mine look quite good compared to those. I guess after standing outside untouched for seven years some corrosion is inevitable.

I’ll have a look at them and put some pictures up. Which bulb you looking for and where’s it go?

One of these?

Nope. Don't think so. That looks like a standard stop/tail bulb with vertically-staggered pins at 180 degrees. The fog/tail bulbs have the pins at 150 degrees. See the above posts in the thread for full disclosure.

Oops. Forgot the most obvious question. Does anyone on here have a spare manual for the Mark 1 Mondeo that I could purchase?
HBOL or anything similar would be gratefully received.

I’ve got a Haynes book you can have - PM me your address and I’ll get it shipped out in the week. I’m sending another parcel anyway.

What a brilliant story! And it looks great in that colour. Loving this, another legendary AS save.

Yup, Peugeot 405s like doing that as well. If you can find a new set, and it's going to live outside, spray them every couple of months with silicone spray - seems to keep them fresh.

These are the rear window seals, they didn’t leak, not in bad nick, image.thumb.jpg.0183dfe5a4d1cc54a1e10710eb7c9594.jpgcrusty underneath but good on top.

I've always loved to hate the Mondeo as I couldn't forgive Ford for killing the Sierra/making it FWD. However I have to admit the earlyish (M?) 2.0 one my ex had was a very nice drive, much more comfortable than the equivalent Vectra. It even had the torch in the glovebox, not that it worked.

Only thing that went wrong on it was the wiring to the heater fan resistor burning out, the official repair kit is a new multiplug with thicker gauge wire.

From my Halfords/AA days I seem to recall the techs hating doing the front suspension arms, as they failed as regularly as the Escorts/Focuses/Fiestas etc but the bolts go in from the top and removing them involves dropping the subframe.

Have to say it's nice to see a survivor in a good spec and a local (to me) registration.

Good luck...

On the gearbox side they couldn’t be removed unless the subframe was dropped down a few threads. In practice most people undid the nuts then cut the tops off the bolts and reinstalled the bolt from underneath. I know the proper way is to drop the frame a bit but there’s a captive nut the subframe bolts into, there’s every chance on an older one that the captive nut will shear off its welds.

Not sure there are any. Here are the ones I actually know are MOT'd and not on this forum.

One I regret not buying, I was on holiday when it was for sale in 2015. The advert was still on gumtree when I came back but the car was sold. Registered on 4th February 1993 so mega early, SORN'd with no MOT since 2016 *pictures from gumtree ad

When I first posted this I uploaded all the photos I had taken intending to add just a select few into the text. I didn't realise before posting that any which are uploaded but not added into the text with the '+' button still appear at the bottom of the post. This is why there are multiple random photos at the bottom with no comments, some of which are near-duplicates of the ones in with the text. This makes the post a bit long and rambling so I wondered if I should delete them. Or do you folks like to see lots of random pictures? Let me know a consensus of opinions and then I will either delete them or not.
