A couple of old photos I've recently found,

First up is my Great uncles Ford Anglia outside my Great Grandparents' house. Circa 1960s

2nd is from left to right, my Aunt, Uncle, Father and Great uncle standing around my Grampas' new company car.  A 2600 SD1, apparently my great Uncle (who was German) wasn't impressed with the British Leyland quality on the SD1. Circa 1980s

3rd is my Grandpas friends  Ford Consul, when he lived in London in the early 1960s, the guy was quite proud of this car.

4th was another company car my Grandpa had, a fairly new Ford Cortina after a argument with a fence post, which the car obviously lost. Circa 1960s

And lastly are pictures of my Grampas first ever new car, a Ford Anglia sat outside his house in the early to mid 1960s and also my Great Grandmother (German and spoke very little English) stood next to the car.  My Grandpa polished every inch of this car when he first got it home and it is said that the paint work kept its shine for many years after.

The picture of the Ford Consul is delightful and ought to go in the "black and white" section of Autoshite!

Here's one of my Dad's Maestro with my half brother and sister poking out of the sunroof.

The car was new and company supplied and I remember him test driving a Volvo 340 GLT as well. And a Motor (or Autocar) article which tested Maestro, Golf, Fiat Strada 130TC and... something else? Escort XR3i maybe?

In the end his decision was swayed by what had 5 doors so I think it was Maestro or Volvo. Think 5-door Golf GTI came later.

Sadly it didn't have the talking dash...

I suspect that Marina was a North Devon car! One of our family's many Dafs was a 66, registration no.  DTT 760 L, first registered in Barnstaple and only 360 registrations after yours!

Me, with my mums 2cv. My earliest motoring memories were in this car (including the first failure to proceed when a driveshaft detached), though I imagine that it isn't recalled as fondly by my parents as it was already on its second chassis at 4 years old!

That last bit above really hasn't changed.

This was going around on Facebook last night and is a nice snap - so here it is.

Not a family car, but a family garage.  Branton's of Felixstowe, run by my Great Great Uncle Frank.

image.png.24f075427c7b7698ca17041bdc8d2dfd.png

There's still very much a garage on that site, and Branton's are bloody everywhere in Felixstowe!

Got my scanner working again, so was able to scan some more old family photos.

1st: Dads Austin Montego - bought when it was 8 years old, already rotten but it was a cheap family car and he welded it up and ran it for 3 years (1996-1999)

2nd: Family holiday pic at Woodlands Family park in Blackawton, Devon.  Not sure what the car is in the background.

3rd: Mums fiesta with neighbors son in law's Ford Sierra (I remember this car, guy loved it and kept it clean and mint at all times....until he binned it down a verge and into somebody's garden)  Then there's a early Micra?? and also Dads Toyota Avensis company car.

4th: Dads Ford Capri (still have it sat in a council garage, off road since 1993) towing my aunts Austin Maestro (broken, naturally) all the way from Birmingham to Yorkshire, I think my aunt gave him the car for free, not sure.

5th: Dads gold Ford Granada (2.0 pinto) with the family caravan that probably weighed more than the car.

6th: Dads Escort van, at his parents house in the 1980's.  Along with my Nanna's MK5 Cortina and the neighbors 2 door MK2 saloon, I'm pretty sure that my Nanna's old Morris Minor is sat next to my Granpa's boat, hidden behind the van, it was scrapped in the 80's, with the boat sat for to the left I reckon it must be there.

7th: Dad's Peugeot 405, whilst on holiday in France (2000)  with my Grandad's Mondeo sat next to it.

8th: Dad's 405 again, on the day he bought it in 1999.  Neighbors Saab 99? in the back ground.  When I was growing up he always had Saabs.  99's then 900's and maybe even a 9000 was his last one, he drives a Kia now...

I'll look about and see if I can find more pics.

Yellow MK2 in the background appears to be an RS2000 going by the bumper (and wheels, roof etc)

Must have bought a new camera or film as I've 3 photos taken on the same day, sometime in 1986 or 1987.

FJ again, with neighbours Mini and tour van (he was in a band at that time).

FJ once more with my 244 (against the rules for a biker to own a Volvo back then). The Volvo (AEV 110X) no longer on DVLA database.

The FJ last taxed in 1993 but still on database (B69 CMF), sold in 1988

Just noticed, your Volvo reg is very close to my Capri (AEV 990X)

You still have the Capri? Hope it is still around.

I sold the Volvo to my mates dad, which he later p/x'd for a Sierra (I think) under the scrappage scheme. Not sure what condition it was in by then though.

Yeah, still have it.

The second picture above was taken only yesterday.  Car is sat in a council garage, and me and my brother have just finished clearing out the garage of 99% non car related items.  Sadly the roof of the garage is leaking so need to sort that out.  I'm in the process of digging out foundations for a garage at my house, which the Capri will live in once built.

Best of luck with getting the garage and car sorted

Not the best picture, but here's my Grandad in his MK1 Passat. Despite him being well into his 50s, this was his first car after having saved for years for it.

Terminal rot saw it's demise after a few years, and to replace it he went to his local AR dealership and bought himself a brand new A-plated Metro, which he absolutely hated. Had to be returned to the dealers on a few occasions for warranty repairs. :D

I don't half miss him... :(

I posted a pic already but my late grandad also had a mk1 Passat, although it didn't have twin headlights like that. I saw one of the sister Audi 80s at Rustival in March and was quite emotional looking inside
