I only met Richard once (that I know of) and that was very recently!  I've already posted a message of condolence, but I'll take a pause at 11.  RIP Richard.

I don't have discord. Hope it went well?

No need to sign up, just bung your username in, nothing much has happened so far. The discord will hopefully act as a virtual wake in the meantime while lockdown is ongoing.

The ceremony went wonderfully, it's exactly like he'd want it. Unfortunately no time for my request of Pink Floyd's Time to be played, though likely for the best.

I’m glad to hear the service went well @reb not in a position to join the online wake though you have my thoughts.

I somehow missed this thread. I met Richard at my first SF in 2014 and got a lift to the chippy/museum in that awful Volvo automatic.

I can't see it's been posted yet so enjoy this photo of the team in merrier times.

I've been here a decade, and I can only name 4 people in that photo.

Must try harder.

Excuse me, that awful automatic volvo is still providing sterling service some 80k+ later!

That wouldn't be this Volvo would it?

Richard was a personal friend of mine. I joined Autoshite 3 weeks after he did, 14 years ago! Very sad to hear ofthe accident, he will be greatly missed.

It alas is not, the 940 left the building a number of years ago. It looks like it was last on the road in 2016/17, which is some time after we got the 854 TDI. I think the 854 was bought in 2014/15, and passed on to me in 2018 when he bought a burgundy 855. I think we had a 4 door Citroen C5 in between the two. I'd love to track down the 940, but it was in a bit of a state when it left us and values are going a bit silly.

I'm not sure how long I've been on here. I definitely remember being 17 and at a meet with him at crail and everyone from here starts asking if I wanted a shot of their various chod. Madness.

I have an awful automatic Volvo that has not moved out the driveway for 18 months or more. Reading this has reminded me how much I liked it, I am going to attempt to get it going this week. This one’s hidden child seats are in the boot @reb!

Ours has been sat on some grass for almost two months.

I'm about to take it up to the unit to figure out why this bastard coolant light is on.

I have some cracking photos of it and other chod from that day, I'll have to dig out the negatives!

I remember that Starlet.

I also remember doing a 6,000rpm clutch dump and ensuing wheelspin about 20ft from Snagglepuss and he didn't even notice. I watched the footage back and it was pathetic. :D

Five years this month.

I apologise if I'm a cunt to anyone over the next few weeks. I'm going through it a bit.

Shout all you need. 20 years getting on for since I lost my kid brother. Gets easier but never goes.

5 years today. I feel better than I expected, though perhaps a bit emotional. I'm looking for shelving for my greenhouse on Amazon and someone has left a review on one of them with a picture demonstrating that it "makes a great bunk bed for cats" and it brought a slight tear to my eye.

*Takes deep breath * - are you able to say what happened or is that to painful to discuss?

He was exploring an abandoned mine, he had decided to buy an inflatable dinghy to get in to a flooded section. Capsized and drowned is my understanding. Complicated by a ceiling cave in.

I don't really know many details.

Was thinking about him a lot yesterday, Robin. I'd have loved to hear his take on Chancellor Cheeto's verbal diarrhoea.

I know that whatever he would have had to say, if I'd asked him about it it would have ended with "...but it's not real anyway, it doesn't matter, it's just there to keep you angry"

Thank you, @reb. I've been down a slate mine in north Wales with a friend who is very keen on mine exploration - the next day said friend and another party went exploring another mine with a flooded level and were a bit concerned about it as they'd only brought one dinghy, two being usual as you might need the second one for the return journey if the first had been punctured during the first crossing. Not me though, I went up the hills that day.
