Note the ghost of Kenny Rogers in the bottom left of your Vectra headlight....

That would be a Mr D Sutherland. My tee reflected :)

As a reward for passing her mot with almost flying colours, the vectra got a hub nut sticker.

Not sure dollywobbler would regard the vectra as prime hubnut fodder!

Late update. Two advisories on Vectras MOT, for front tyres worn on inner edge. They were also near the wear markers.

So Thursday she got two new fronts with tracking done.

Drives much better now :)

So, me and Mrs CSW went for a road trip today and I thought I would test how accurate the trip computer - cause I is sad like that :)

Brimmed her at the Shell garage and reset her trip computer.

Headed down to Weymouth. Raining but it was nice to be on a beach again

20200627_093335.thumb.jpg.ae1ed1a89296f8a9dac228fc0795fd1e.jpg

Were there early. Only stayed ten mins.

4 cruise liners were anchored offshore. Either laid up or maybe still covid19 quarantine? Crap phone, so couldn't get them all in same shot.

20200627_093838.thumb.jpg.53f9c0017bb9ba11669c02ce3df0f761.jpg

Then headed for Lyme Regis.

Like Weymouth, quite quiet.

20200627_103753.thumb.jpg.d0d8faefd835f2b54a7d35dfc67ea6d5.jpg

Then back via Axminster, Crewkerne and Yeovil.

Back to Shell and brimmed her again. 156.4 miles in total.

Manual calcs came out as

3.39 gallons used and MPG of 46.14

Given roundings are involved in the calcs, I reckon the 14yr old Veccies onboard computer is bloody accurate.

Also given the hilly nature of Dorset and Devon, I'm really really impressed with the MPG.

The cruise ships in Weymouth Bay are parked up coz no customers and cheaper

than a berth in Southampton. They trundle off to go shopping every now and then.

Quick fleet update.

Alfa 166 is being roffled at 10 per ticket.

Mrs CSW CRV passed MOT on Thursday. Two piddling advisories, very happy. May need a knock sensor soon. Occasional EML.

Ginger disastra is due MOT on Monday. Reasonably certain it will fail. Will fix, then she may be offered to those of this parish.

My Vectra is still being 'an car'. Few things to do but none urgent.

A mk4 Golf V5 has joined the fleet courtesy of @HMC. The Alfa 166 went in the opposite direction.

Pics to follow, as I'm meant to be working :)

Management has given her verdict.

Seats comfy, loud exhaust, both factors remind her of her ZS180.

She has called dibs for her commute tomorrow and is already referring to it, as HER car.

To reduce the fleet, I may have to sell something else. Anyone fancy a vectra? :)

Here is the pez shot. Given how this thing goes and sounds, I'm gonna be on first name terms with the cashier in no time at all :)

Well 22 mile drive to Bristol completed.

1st impressions

Glove box opens when you hit a pothole. Drivers window has annoying rattle, when half way down.

Goes like a stabbed rat. Sounds like a muscle car :)

I even started slowing down for green lights in the hope they would go red, so I could launch it off the lights :)

Also dropping into neutral to rev the engine.

I'm going to be spending an awful lot of cash on pez, tyres and possibly clutches.

I felt like a teenager again. Been grinning since I started the engine :)

@HMC you are a bloody legend for giving me this opportunity.

Why have I never bought one of these before?!?!?!

@Cookiesouwest I always thought it went well. I knew it was the later uprated 170bhp unit but even then it was quicker than I was expecting. I loved the 5cyl engine howl as well, glad it’s gone to a good home!

I've been looking for a good (or even a crap) Seat Toledo v5 purely to drive through tunnels repeatedly. I really like the sound of the v5 engine, as you say it almost sounds like a muscle car, and they go well into the bargain. Well bought.

Tasty! Mostly for the sound.

She, clearly, is going to have fun commuting!

Buy mine when I've finished with it. Weld a boot on it and change the badges :)

Management took the Golf to work today.

Verdict likes the seats, likes the noise. But found it to be a bit scary to drive. Too fast.

Weird given she spent years hooning around in various ZS180s (although they go round corners better than the Golf) and has always regarded speed limits as 'advisory'

She wants her CRV back.

The golf v5 has to go.

Management hates it. Reminds her of her Audi TT that nearly killed her.

Too scared to drive it.

I probably should have warned her that the TT was a golf mk4 in a dress.

So happy wife, happy life rule has to apply.

I bloody love the thing (the golf and the wife). But it must be disposed of (the golf, not the wife).

Its been offered to a member of this parish who contacted me when I got it.

If no deal done by this evening, it goes to roffle at a tenner a ticket - winning ticket refunded.

Thats irony, that is.

She knows the accelerator pedal isn't just an on off switch?  That she can modulate the position, by carefully positioning the angle of her feet.....?

That if she presses less hard it won't go as fast?

You get to an age, where driving like it's a race track becomes tiring. How old is she....? To be fair, my mother's 82, and never mastered it.  Always accelerating and braking. Never coasting.

Yes, the irony is not lost on me either.

She had a few mishaps with the TT and the MGF before it. Since then she has driven her CRV. It makes her feel safe.

The golf is a lot smaller than the CRV, with lower driving position.

She just doesn't feel safe.

Oh and yes, she has not mastered coasting. On her commute to work she manages 19mpg in the CRV. Same journey, I get 30mpg.

Stick a block of wood under the go fast pedal, job done.

Something about this really appeals to me, Possibly the fact I had two Passat GL5's, fantastic engine note. Also possibly nicest gearbox I have ever used.

If I thought it would make a difference to her view of the car, I would.

That doesn't really sound like someone who should be on the road. Has she considered driver training?

She is a good driver but has lost confidence driving smaller cars

Does that affect the ability to modulate the throttle? Maybe I've misread the above!

That’s what my dad did to me in my first mini. Took me about a week to spot it and then simply removed and replaced it each night.

That's the funny thing about "feel", it's each to their own.

I'm sorry it's not worked out with the golf, having not driven one I would suggest it feels faster than it is. 0-60 170 bhp is only 8.6 seconds.

The exhaust and engine sporty note wouldn't help with this feeling, maybe it has a keener throttle response and more power low down.

I can only speak for my crv ownership on a 2002 pez 2.0 manual, the power was up top, easy to drive low down and felt very very safe.

Some cars just don't suit peoples driving styles sometimes.

Some people can adapt easy enough and some can't, it doesn't make them a liability or dangerous.

It should move on quickly without losing anything and be replaced with something suitable easy enough.
