A bit like moderating an old car forum.

As a 53 year old git I use YouTube as purely a watching exercise. I very rarely feel the need to comment on anything I watch.

Nothing wrong with that. Commenting, clicking like etc helps boost a video because YouTube likes interaction/engagement - but watch time is king at the end of the day.

You just don’t get that kind of engagement anymore… 🤣

Hey @Kiltox seen this?

Hampshire / Portsmouth Council turned off 100 on street parking chargers due to safety concerns.

I get so many emails from random Chinese companies asking me to review their tat.  I've done it a few times and nobody watches the videos, so it's actually pretty harmful to the channel, but they just keep on coming.

Decided for 2024 I'm going to shake it up a bit - accept absolutely everything they send to me no matter how stupid or irrelevant it is, and make compilation videos unboxing/laughing at/demonstrating it

This guy does a good job of it for tech stuff:

If it gets small view numbers and damages the channel, why do it?

Or are you going to use a different channel?

Idea being I do it less frequently and try to make it more interesting rather than producing lots of videos dedicated to single products (which are what doesn’t do well)

If the video looks like a shill review for tat, people aren't going to watch.

If it looks like a comedy compilation of "here's the worst tat I got sent this quarter" then I might watch.

Would you need to confirm with the tat senders that they are OK with their product being presented in a somewhat irreverent fashion?

Definitely more in line with what I’m considering. I’ve told them they’ll appear alongside other products…. :D

You made a point I didn't realise, Toyota don't do EV. Apart from the b4xzxzuywnzu67262728-7

Toyota sells cars that make them money. Pretty much no car companies (except Tesla) make any money out of their EVs, do they? BYD maybe?

Trying hard to revive my upload schedule and the EV news stuff has been doing pretty well recently which is good, just need to keep it regular.

Been approached by a firm to do a sponsored integration promoting something that isn’t particularly automotive in nature (no it’s not Manscaped you cheeky bastards)

Thoughts? Would it put you off watching the news videos because there was a 60 second ad in there?

Honestly, yes it would. 20-30 seconds or so, fine. 60 seconds, depending on my mood whilst watching youtube, id just click off the video.

Probably means I've a crap attention span or should pay youtube description to avoid it though

It wouldn't bother me because vanced/adblock etc.

It's so ubiquitous you might as well go for it, it's just expected nowadays.

Do they even manage to detect embedded ads? Wow.

(you’re obviously a cunt for stealing from creators etc etc)

Do what you got to do, to make a living.

A 60 second add in a 120 second vid would be off putting.

60 seconds in 10 mins. No problem

On the phone app yes, it can detect ads, sponsored sections (like Mat Armstrong wanking on about car vertical) and even the old "pls subscribe" bits
