There was one of these identical to this one at the hotel next door today, the reg was PV18 and there was a smart looking elderly couple in it, sadly i couldn't get a photo but the car still stood out in a car park of mundane modern BMW and Audis. Surething shows it as being a 1991 and them owning it since 2002. ?

Whats the yellow car?

I want to say a Mercury Lynx, but can’t quite convince myself. Also a very low spec corolla SR5?

I'm pretty sure that's the same one that used to be parked up on Zetland Road in Bristol, just up from the Arches. Number plate is hauntingly familiar.

(Used to be parked here: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4700664,-2.5947722,3a,75y,335.54h,85.09t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7uboTIpCik5MILtzAFkWdg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 )

They don't have anything to do with the Sainsbury's I used to be dragged to every friday as a child, in Worle, Somerset.

Is the Maxi above the luxury version? And if so is it as rare as the diesel? From the DVLA MOT Checker (sigh) -

Love this thread, takes me back to being a nipper. It's refreshing to see how much space is round the typical 70's/80's car once they're actually parked up. Nowadays you get all the bloated overweight superminis filling the parking space end to end and side to side.

What a fantastic thread, gutted there are no archives from the big Sainsbury's in Southend, or in fact the old one in Chichester Road near Warrior Square.

Great to see some scenes I remember as a kid, early Sierra's and Montego's along side dirty / shabby MK2 Granada's and MK5 Cortina's

I noticed a lot of Pre Rover, British leyland Cars come back as ROVER in the MOT checker, almost like the MOT checker is getting the make info from the VIN number instead of what its down as on the V5

however if you go via the DVLA checker https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

you will get better results (although as proven in my thread, the results from the DVLA checker itself can be a fun shit show LOL)

Alvis TC21  two-door convertible - produced 1953-5. Car would have been desired even then. Reg 901 AMM does not seem to exist but hope car survives under another number. May have been exported during the 80's classic car goldrush - these are popular in Europe.

Also shows the care with which Sainsbury's reused some historic buildings. Kinda pioneering stuff at the time.

Another example of reuse. This was the Bath terminus of the much missed Somerset and Dorset railway that ran over the Mendip Hills and down to the coast. John Betjeman made a film about it in its last days.

Lots of bits of it in preservation and with some preserved line.

.But what's that behind the GT6?

i thought maybe Standard or Humber, but some reason I've got Wartburg in my mind ( who hasn't?) even though I have no idea what the back of one looks like. 100 were sold here in 67 and 68 apparentlly so it's possible.
