It’s a Simca 1100 van, the high roof VF2 version:

The coupe between the P6 and the Marina estate is a Mazda 818.

V happy there are some pics of the Swansea branch now - there weren’t any when I first looked.

The derelict Weaver Building completely dominated the main route into Swansea for decades.  It was a pioneering concrete construction in the 1920s (nope, 1890s! I just checked) and they couldn’t figure out how to demolish it.

It was amazingly sinister.  I adored it as a child.

Consul from the hubcaps, I think the coupe is a Mazda RX4 or 929, maybe the Consul or one of the Capris was a potential engine donor. After all a Ford V4 was a compulsory* swap for Wankels.

I want to live at that run-down yard in the top pic on this page.  I think the silver grey coupe next to the yellow Mk1 Capri is a mid/late 70s Mazda 929 coupe. Like this green one. Maybe. Or it could be a Colt Galant.  Difficult to tell.   Edit, didn't read all of the posts above.

 

But anyway, back to this. WTF is it??  I'm stumped.  It looks too well made for a kit and it does look as if it's being used by a disabled person with a wheelchair.  From the blurry pic it could have the old pre-83 type reg XXX 123 Y.

The nearest I can find is a microcar called a Lyra, but it's not the right answer.

"The latter was commissioned by the Salford and Manchester Social Services (hence the name SALaMANder). Though based on a, somewhat modified, Kitten chassis, it used a Ford
1,100cc engine and C3 automatic gearbox, and with its flat floor, and doors opening right town to the bottom of the sill, made it easy to get in and out, ideal for the disabled, and easy to load a wheelchair into. They were built from about 1981 till 1984, by which time the Motability scheme had rendered a specialist disabled persons vehicle virtually obsolete. The GRP body was flimsy compared to the Reliant technique, but quite adequate."

Thanks for sharing the knowledge on that one Eddie, always satisfying learning about new solutions.  How much nicer and more proper does it look than an Invacar? It looks like an actual real car, a slightly gawky one perhaps, but I daresay you wouldn't experience the same level of social pariah-ness the Invacar inferred on its users.

but if they did suddenly become commonplace, the invacar replacement, then society would of  probably just associated them with disabled drivers in the same way they did the invacar

which does not solve the problem then of "I dont want an Invacar because of the image"

because the issue back then was with society not with the cars themselves persay!

I thought the white car with the front end smash in the hoard, had the look of a Volvo 144, but that black patch on the C pillar and what I think is a front hinged bonnet made me think not.

After a bit of googlin, I reckon a Triumph Dolomite...
