As of 15 minutes ago, i have now covered 5,000 miles since june in "pablo the picasso" since the clutch change those miles have been pretty much trouble free.......which is more than what can be said for the car my grandparents replaced this with ?

Exactly!! This is the perfect forum for me too! now i'm not car mad.......well unless it's what people class as "shite" cars.

It's a lot of fun fixing up what was a total filthy wreck of a car to now what is one of the best examples of a picasso out there, I will be keeping this thread updated with progress because i still have a lot of stuff planned.

My next job is to fit a rear bumper protector sticker to cover the deep scratches.

6,000 miles covered now, again seemingly no issues.

The only money i have spent on it recently has been for new rear tyres.

The engine is running as good as ever and plugged it into lexia and was very surprised the only fault was for glow plugs which i knew about. Shite cars really are the best

Hit a small milestone today, 90,000 miles.....still super low for it's age but if i hadn't taken the car it would have been long dead by now.

It'll take a lot for me to give up on the picasso.

Recent upgrades include, well i replaced the blown out speakers so the stereo at least sounds alright.....i polished it and yeah nothing else.

Got the MOT next week though which yeah should be alright i guess.

It'll be fine. Ours always gets through the mot, they are tough, loveable old things. I may have just jinxed them, sorry. 

 

They are fab motors, we are on our second. First was a 2001 2.0 HDI, now on a 2004 1.6 petrol. Diesel was definitely a better engine but its hard not to like the way they drive whatever moves them along the road. Comfy, frugal and spacious. Nice work! I've still got HDi power in my Xantia estate, what an engine.

I'm kinda surprised and kinda not surprised everything is fine, but yes everything even the air con is fine.....and they were just gonna scrap it.

Mind you the qashquai that they bought to replace this has been far from fine.....many many problems.

The masochistic part of me wants a rover 820 with running issues, however my brain tells me to keep the reliable picasso.

my first car was an X reg fiat 128 1.3 1982, all my mates had escorts, fezzas, etc but none could catch my fiat...

my friends mum has one of these long time shes gradually destrying it,  its got slow as f@@k, and when u boot it you cant see behind it

They were a worthy successor to the XUD.

Tough as nails and a wonderful spread of torque. Frugal too, used to average 48mpg in my C5 and I didn't hang around.

The 2.0 HDi really feels like the perfect engine for the picasso, decent power and torque and seems to be very reliable too.

if i was being picky i would say the slightly warped flywheel which causes a minor judder when pulling away sometimes it's the only issue i can find.

So tomorrow we have the first MOT in my ownership to contend with, hopefully it will pass........however if it's gonna fail then i want an epic failure.

Will keep you all updated, however until then enjoy this racy shot featuring rear wiper (oh yes it works too) and water beading.

He's one of the things I'll miss when I move away, one of the fairest, and most sensible MoT people I've ever had the good fortune to give money to, as well as being an all round good egg in general.

Our Picasso is still going strong. The Wife and kids love it and it hasn't needed very much down the years by way of repair. Sounds like you have a reasonable car their maxxo and as others have said the Picasso will be a future classic.

As you can see, this was a case of "I wonder how long it will keep running", rather than a restoration (my MX5 was much better, as has the work on @gm's MX5 recently!).  I believe it's still running, being used as a farm hack.

 

One day I'll have the bottle to upload the video review I made, but I keep bursting out into laughter because of the uncanny pace a manual 2.0 petrol picasso can achieve on twisty County Durham roads.

a 2.0 diesel has an alarming ability to hold speed and corner way faster than it should.......dare i say, fun to drive
