Could be an early Chrysler.

I somewhat doubt wether that photo was taken in 1940, cars and clothing style are from the 1920's.

Looks like a good match, I was sceptical about the date as well, the '20's/early '30's sound about right.

It's a shame that this exact car doesn't exist anymore.  Were these common?  Have any of these survived?  The amount of shenanigans you could do with this 'cursed ute' would be hilarious.

Not overly, most places they used trailers I think. Not something you see now really due to perimeter immobilization*

That MK3 van/trolley wally comes up as a 1600 which I don't think was a factory option on a van. I wonder what the handling was like...

It was not the only one!

Still 4x4 or dragging itself around by the front wheels?

Rear axle would go right through the Moggie looking at the pic

Both things kneel; the rear axle(s) have huge dog legs in them.

Anyone have any ideas what this car nestled in the weeds might be? I might go for a look when I'm back in Poole next week. I think it might be a Daihatsu Charade.

Looks like it, yeah

Got to be a van with the small window behind the door.

There was similar in Redditch, when I lived their in 1987..  IIRC, it was independent, and picked up trolleys for all the supermarkets.  It used to stop and pick up all the discarded trolleys in the underpass outside my digs. The locals would often drop them off on the way home, and if they were still there next time they went to the shops they'd take them back.

I'd never seen or heard of a Rotrax before. It evolved into this:

It looks like someone stole the hatch, so they made up something and used gaffer tape to.hold it in place.

Wait. It looks like bent galvanised sheet steel. And are those rivets on the rear wing ?

I think it's supposed to be an attempt at improved aerodynamics, can't see it being much different to a standard saloon personally
