Station Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I saw this on RR a few months ago and for some reason knew I would eventually own it, even though I had just bought a car, and had no money. I travelled up to Stoke and drove it home. Such an awesome car, I used to get taken to school in one of these when I was very little and seem to remember it being tiny and I used to look out of the window at all the bigger cars alongside! Really is a good 'example' as well!
Volksy Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 The seceratry from my middle school had one of these.GR8 for GETTIN THRO BOLLrdssoo fugging narrow
pogweasel Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 YOWSER. That's well qual, blezzing about in one of those would be a right lark.
Station Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 Er, does anyone know the wheel PCD of these?
Milford Cubicle Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I would love one of these too, I looked at one a few years ago but it was a complete baler.Keep the steel wheels on it man! They're part of its character.I have read that they carry a similar lump to the Super Carry/Rascal, could you fit a 1.3 in it?
garethj Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I have read that they carry a similar lump to the Super Carry/Rascal, could you fit a 1.3 in it?Not sure if you can, but the gearbox is quite weak so be careful! There was a Whizzkid owners club years ago, Tim Smith I think ran it, he knows everything there is to know about them so check with him if an engine transplant has been done before.Did you see the scanned articles I did here: http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5600&start=45
Richard Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Is the little buzzy engine not part of its character too?
Mr Lobster Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 ORSUMZ! Ace, I really like these. Hope it's as good as it looks.
michiel Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Excellent purchase!! Nothing useful to add, sorry.
pompei Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Is that the one that's been on ebay recently? Looked really good. I've gone green.
dollywobbler Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Excellent! Top purchase. If the bloke had been in and contactable when I was passing through Derby, I would have had this myself.Moar pix plz!
Station Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 I'm keeping the wheels, I just need a spare as it didn't come with one! I'm really happy with the engine, it pulls fine, and I like the silly mpg. The Rascal shares some parts with the car, but the gearbox is different I think. The lad's dad rebuilt the engine 800 miles ago. The one on ebay was silver and looked a bit knocked about. They need looking after now as there must be less than 40 left.
bigstraight6 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Superb It's been a very long time since I saw one of those anywhere, there can't be many left now.....
Pete-M Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Heh, I don't like small cars, or Jap cars.I do like these though.A rather stylish lady who lives near me had one when they were brand spankin' new. Black one "V" reg with all the trimmings. If memory serves me right she had alloys on it. I know she'd had the interior retrimmed in red leather when it was new and it was still perfect when she sold it about 6 years later. She's mooching about in a top spec Skoda Superb now, but she's got to be pushing 70 so I suppose that's allowed. They're one of those families who buy a new car, keep it perfect for 6 or 7 years then buy another new one.
Spottedlaurel Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Nice one! With that VGV registration it must’ve started its life whizzing around my neck of the woods. My had an Alfa that was VGV272X, pleases me to think that something from the same time is still about.
dollywobbler Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I LOVE small cars. Witness the fact that I've got three working cars in the fleet at the moment - 602cc, 948cc and 998cc. The biggest engine is in the smallest car...
garethj Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 The Rascal shares some parts with the car, but the gearbox is different I think.Doesn't the Rascal have rwd? The Whizzkid engine and box is just like in a normal transverse fwd car, it just happens to be in the back. What were the Suzuki fwd cars of the time?
Barry Cade Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I had 2 of these years ago, the Rascal engine will fit. Janspeed used to do a turbo coversion for them, and you could also get Weber 40DCOE manifolds for them and all sorts of stuff. I'm sure Tim Smith had a turbo, he may well still have it. Last time I was in contact he had 19 of the things!I still have scars on my left leg where the tunnel coolant pipe blew on my silver one, covering my leg in blue lava at 1 million degrees, and instantly misting up all the windows.. it died soon after. My black one was sold to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend, now wife of 15 years...I also nearly died on the M90 going to Motec in Livingsto. I had a fishnet recaro seat in it,and it had a 80's glass sunroof. I took a swig of Irn Bru at about 80 mph in the fast lane, and the bottle jammed under the lip of the sunroof, with my head jammed in the fishnet headrest, whilst alongside an 18 wheeler.Brilliant fun. I'd have another in a heartbeat!
RedSparrow Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I took a swig of Irn Bru at about 80 mph in the fast lane, and the bottle jammed under the lip of the sunroof, with my head jammed in the fishnet headrest, whilst alongside an 18 wheeler. must've been terrifying though! That quote is surely signature worthy round these parts.
Father Ted Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 My black one was sold to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend, now wife of 15 years...You mad bugger - I know for a fact Ratners was still trading back then as being married 14 years myself thats where I got my wifes engagement ring - so I didnt need to sell he motorbike or the Metro.

I'd have another in a heartbeat! That is absolute quality! And proof that drinking and driving is bad news children. Please excuse me while my laughter causes me to roll around on the floor.

I'd have another in a heartbeat! Now there's a good reason not to have a small car right there. I don't like little cars, probably comes of a lifetime of only driving vans, got me first car 2 years ago, and that's a Mk2 granny, so not small at all....
dollywobbler Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Whereas I LOVE small cars. I absolutely love it when there's a tiny gap I can sqeeze through leaving people carriers, idiot-size 4x4s and the like having to wait as I just tear on through. You can have a lot more fun hooning on country lanes too.All my cars are small really - three are sub-1000cc, one is 3 metres long and even the 'big' six-pot is only 1596cc.I don't really get on with big cars.
