red5 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 As title. I'll dig out morte pics/link to previous threads. It runs now, although carb still full of random gunk (mostly from tank). It currently owes me £400 odd quid. That would be most acceptable. It has no floors. No roof. Not much rear brakes (hardware kit needed). No V5 (never registered)It runs. It has x-flow 1600. Nikki twin choke. Rubbish dash. XR2 seats. Mk2 Escrot running gear. Anyone interested? Thanks,Sam The Old Bloke Next Door, Stanky, Sheefag and 3 others 6
Maurice Marina Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I so wanted one of these back in the day. GLWS. AMC Rebel 1
UltraWomble Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Sadly and I hate to be the one to day this - with no V5 you may have more hope getting your investment back by selling the bits on as bits to the Ezzy crowd.Presumably it has the Ezzy rear diff & axle too. Strip it - glass fibre a floor into it and turn the shell into a raft.
Sheefag Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Alternatively, just ring the fucker. warren t claim, Rocket88 and alf892 3
red5 Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 Indeed. I'd rather not but Escort axles are quite a lot etc etc. I'd buy a nailed one and swap bits over etc but....
Mally Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Only the rear axle interests me these days, and you are too far away for that.Axle worth £150 if you lived next door..If the diff is 3.77 or 3.54 then considerably more.Be worth seeing if the tag is still on the diff. I might have asked this before though.
red5 Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 I'll have a look when back in workshop. Does seem a shame to break it up but..
AlabamaShrimp Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Insert sarcastic comments based on breaking it up here. What's making you give up on it or is it that it might never be able to be registered? Couldn't it be finished as some sort of college course?
Fabergé Greggs Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Whilst we can’t encourage this kind of thing lightly, surely the only way of saving the fate of such a fine* and rare vehicle is to ring it.. strangeangel 1
Mally Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 It would possibly reach £600 on the bay.Someone will be in need.Don't blame me if it doesn't though.
NorfolkNWeigh Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 If the Ford bits are worth a few quid , flog those then offer the body on eBay as suitable for plonking on a Vitara chassi or something. garethj 1
Sheefag Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Can't you get Borneidentity to tell the press that it belonged to a Pope he went to primary school with or Marie Curie or something? It won't hurt the value. Fat_Pirate, Cavcraft, Mally and 1 other 4
garbaldy Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Are escort axles really worth that much ?I'm sure I've got at least 4 under the bench. Where are you again ?

I might have asked this before though. I'm sure my Locost has 4.1:1 or thereabouts. I did some back of a fag packet maths with axle ratios and tyre circumference when I fitted the digi speedo to it to calibrate the speedo and got it spot on first time! I guessed the axle ration cased on a 1.1 Mk1 or similar. Quite a revvy bugger as you can imagine!
dieselassist Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 ....cant it be, rather long windedly prepared for n later inspected and attain a Q-plate ?? AlabamaShrimp 1
Mally Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Are escort axles really worth that much ?I'm sure I've got at least 4 under the bench. Where are you again ? Case is £10, Shafts £25 each. 3.89 diffs used to be £50, but have shot up to £100 recently. 4.12, 3.54, 3.77 min £130 max £250.Shafts can be £30, and will only go higher as everyone breaks them. We've been breaking them 10 years, I thought they'd have run out before now.Cheapest manufactured shaft is well over £100 Edit £200. Even I can't keep up. Diff prices are odd to me. Why pay £250 for a 3.77 that's done 90,000 miles, when you can get a new CWP from Burtons for around the same.I'm Rochdale, I've only got 3 under my bench.
Mally Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 ....cant it be, rather long windedly prepared for n later inspected and attain a Q-plate ?? Anything is possible, but the number of hoops has been increased by a zillion since I was doing it. Very little would comply as it stands.Reason behind the collapse of the cheap kit car. red5 1
eddyramrod Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Is this the one Stanky had? LightBulbFun 1
Stanky Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 A chap on the tumbleweed-infested Jago OC forum is trying to get a fully built but not registered in period one through an IVA and has been for several years now. He's spent thousands and even by his own admission isn't even close to getting a pass. Its a huge shame, but getting one of these things to pass a modern IVA test is all but impossible. As I understand it, the majority of the issues are on safety grounds - sharp edges, angle iron chassis, no airbags, no doors, etc etc. its a terrible state of affairs IMHO but how many kit cars have you ever seen on the actual road? There just isn't the weight of numbers of owners/builders to force a rethink by the DVSA. Lets face it, even Caterham often have to take the cars back from IVA tests multiple times before they get a pass, and they have a 'pet' local assessment centre and churn out hundreds of the things every year. The average bloke in a shed has very little hope. Having driven this on private roads, its a brilliant little thing - super light, handles really well, very rapid with the 1600 x-flow engine in. The front brakes were totally overhauled, its had new pads with real asbestos in them, the rear brakes were a bit imbalanced but could be fixed with some new cylinders I suspect. As Red5 has sorted the starting, which was always a bastard while I had it its a great little car and deserves to be used. red5 and Tamworthbay 2
AlabamaShrimp Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I know it's a bit stupid but can it be registered in another country then reregistered here or does it not work like that? LightBulbFun 1
Sheefag Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Cracking idea, get it on Rumanian plates and save on parking fines, speeding fines, MOT, insurance et al. AlabamaShrimp, AMC Rebel, Kringle and 2 others 5
Stanky Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 cost no object, yeah I think so. If you get get it registered in the EU somewhere then back here before the end of March I think you'd be OK.
Tamworthbay Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 The sad thing is that whilst we need cars to be safe the kit car market was never ever a source of masses of dodgy cars and did not deserve to be labelled as such. When I built my Robin Hood based on a Sierra I had to throw away loads of bits and pay ridiculous amounts of money to buy SVA (as it was then) compliant parts. So the sierra was perfectly legal but put those bits in a kit car and they somehow became dangerous? Yet another idea that morphed into a monster and killed an interesting industry but made no difference to road safety. Scruffy Bodger 1
