Good grief, it went for £1,100 so there's someone who thinks he make a healthy profit selling this!

Just betting on two different markets?
Like the SD1 that recently went from Anglia Car Auctions to eBay on a very swift markup - they may find an uninformed buyer elsewhere but my bet is, nope.

Here's mine for the night - BikeShite - so no clue if it's truly shite or not

My saved search has thrown up a result, not sure I'd want to buy from this seller.

God alone knows why someone's fitted van tyres to it though, they look shit.

Shropshire reg, maybe from Furrows?

Been 'binge watching' Bangers and Cash and this very Cortina was in the background on a programme in series 10 when a bloke in South Wales bought a 205GTi from Matthewsons...

...I wonder if it was them that put those tyres etc on?

1922 Tilling-Stevens TS3A Petrol-Electric

1922-tilling-stevens-ts3a-petrol-electri

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilling-Stevens

Quote

The Tilling-Stevens petrol-electric bus is interesting as an early example of a petrol engined road vehicle using electric rather than mechanical transmission. It is distinct from a hybrid vehicle, as it has no direct engine propulsion or battery storage; the electric dynamo and motor operate only as a replacement for the gearbox in a conventional internal combustion engine driven vehicle.

Interesting! So this tech operates more like some diesel-electric locomotives and such than modern hybrid cars?

How to drive one:

Quote

With the electrical generator (a large dynamo) for the motor permanently connected to the petrol engine, the early petrol electric controls available were a sprung return throttle pedal (with a hand-operated variable latching throttle to set and adjust the idle speed), a brake pedal, a means of steering (wheel, etc.) and two usually column mounted levers. One centre off lever operated a three position changeover switch to permit running in either direction, and the other lever operated a wiper across a bank of large high current wire wound resistances which affected the motor and dynamo fields, to give the electrical effect of gearing. It was very important to set the minimum possible idle speed, or when engaging the direction switch excess load on the system and possible unwanted movement will occur. The resistance "gear" lever is then set to max torque, and then the direction lever set to (say) forward. On releasing the handbrake and pressing the throttle pedal a little the vehicle will glide away smoothly. Giving more throttle and gradually altering the resistance lever will then produce higher speed, with none of the jerking and pauses in acceleration of a gearbox. To stop, the throttle pedal is released, the resistance lever is brought back to "slow speed", the brake applied and as rest is achieved the forward/reverse lever moved to neutral and handbrake applied. There is however NO engine braking available as from a mechanical drive changed into a lower gear, so the system relies totally on the mechanical wheel brakes, which on early chassis applied to the rear axle only.

'Faithful proportions and dimensions'.

I can't decide if it's a genius piece of abstract art or a replica carefully built by Stevie Wonder or a representation of a Jag which was a bit crashed.

I'd like to take it to a Jaguar Drivers' Day or Goodwood. Round the Nurburgring would be a laugh.

Coming to a white room soon.  With a long write up about how the car was purchased to ferry Dorris Bains from her home in Ealing to the local Methodist Church once a week where she would proudly play the organ.

The fact that Mrs Bains was tone deaf was more than made up for her gusto with the organ and experimental rendition of polular music within the church.

Few who were there could forget her rendition on the pipe organ of Fire by Arthur Brown at the funeral of Reverend Green.

In 1982 Mrs Bains converted to devil worship and discovering that this could be done from home after drawing a pentagram on the dining room floor the Fiesta was only used to go to the occasional bring and buy sale and yearly MOT
