The auto box and the Honda engine also seem to back that up.

Yes that's a good point. I'd expect to see an obviously hastily added foglight if it were an import.

216 and 416 were Honda engined from the start, British built with fog built in, so not difficult to add if missing on this Jap import, I’d guess? I had a 418SLDT and it was great.

Oddly shaped number plate trim and a bolt on foglight are good indications a car has been imported. 

(granted a UK mx5's foglight looks pretty shonky anyway)
