The bollox that's been talked about that car over the years beggars belief & the truth is readily AVL from several sources.

Plus a few years ago it was rotten as a pear so I'm highly sceptical it's a ringer.

Which sources?

It's been through several auction houses and dealers over the past year, I know that much.

Cripes... In my yout' I would very occasionally tap a lift home from (big) school from a M9 whose dad had one of these... hanging on by a thread on a K in monkey-shit-brown... I remember thinking fark this is old & funky/ clunky 😆

Isn't it also not quite 'don't miss the chance' as it seems to have been for sale for bloody ages?

Yes & as mentioned it's definitely something only it's mother could love.

The main one is an in period article ( also in a book) in motor,Autocar or similar magazines telling the story of it's creation & the only real ford connection is that the car was donated to the original project,  after that ford had no involvement. Non of which seems to be referenced every time it goes up for sale.

Bit busy at mo but will see if I can dig the details of which mag/issue it's in.

As you say it's been in several auctions, but originally appeared on eBay I think mid teens in very rough condition ( looked to have been somewhere very damp) all-round. I'd guess it was reshelled as it would have required major welding/fabrication as even now alot of stuff isn't available or reproduced ( what is ,is expensive) a pair of kick panel/A posts will set you back £800-900 alone wings easily another grand.

The material used on the E interior is very fragile when old so doesn't take well to refurbishment repro door cards are AVL circa £100 each but I think the material to recover the seats is nla, if it was your probably looking easily at £1500 for reupholstering ( so the custom work on this would likely be double that) GT highbacks in black vinyl can easily cost £500 each to be recovered.

I'm just starting reaching the history a pair of exworks cortinas hopefully for later this year. Poor/lazy research drives me crazy ( part of my autism)  .

Blimey

That's mild - I had a 'feck me' moment.  I don't think I have seen one of those this side of 1998 :-)
How many left suggests a grand total of 22 taxed/SORN - a rare beast then

To be fair that's about 20 more than I expected there to be

Some were, indeed; I had one!  1.8 coupe in Teal Blue (resprayed over its original red before it came to me), YLV 348J.  I had it in the spring and early summer of 1983, until a police officer told me to get it off the road and never drive it again because the chassis was twisted.  He did me a favour, because I replaced it with my beloved Bedford CF.  I had three more Marinas over the next decade: two saloons and a van, all at scrap prices.  I think the dearest purchase was £90 (NFR 305P, 1.8 saloon in tomato red).

This is nothing special on the face of it - just another fast diesel Mercedes in resale silver.

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but the Mercedes is petrol, no?

I see his other items have similarly hilariously shonky photshopped backgrounds.  This is my favourite:

You're right!  I didn't spot that, I didn't even realise they did a petrol W204 C350.
