I've owned both a Boxster and a RX8. Given a choice between the two? I'd own both as different cars. 

Choice of only one? I'm going to go out on a limb here and I think it would have to the RX8 (just). 

Boxster sounds better and convertible. Decent fuel economy but expensive to repair. 

RX8 handles better and a nicer interior ...but doesn't sound as good (imo). Awful fuel economy but much cheaper to repair.

The noise of the rotary is something that many love. I didn't love it that much. RX8 looks awesome though and the handling is simply fantastic. 

...BUT I currently own a Boxster and have no intention of buying an RX8 in the foreseeable future. Make of that as you will... Convertible and 6 pot engine are great things to have in a fun car.

See I've had about 3 million z4s now which are 6 cylinder convertible cars so albeit a Porsche has the engine in a different place and the cylinders in a slightly different format it will be a bit of a much of a muchness for me. This is why I fancy an Rx. Bonkers concept and half price

Z4 != Boxster

Likewise RX8 != 350Z

Often magazines compare the pairs but very different beasts. 

That RX8 is just the right year to be into the higher tax bracket (£500+ p/a)

i know, 50 quid a month, ouch! Although as i predict i'll have it for a month and move it on to some un suspecting victim on here :)

Funds have been depleted a bit recently. I would struggle to manage the opening bid on that now unfortunately.

I actually thought my 9000 Carlsson handled rather well.  The "standard" 9000 Turbos I've had have been fairly shit though.  I took a CSE 2.3T on a track day once - it wasn't pretty.

No alas his was a white/rust plain 2.0 on a X plate. 

He loved it but bought a 9k mile brown /gold 99 in about 1993 from an old boy up Morriston way which was on an A plate. 

My mum sold it to her friend when my old man died for a grand and it still only had about 30-40k on it then.

Her fella drove it to Greece and used it out there for a few years. 

Sorry I never kept it now. 

I used to live in Langland Court Road between 1979 and 1997 when the old man died, lovely place but well out of my price range now 😬😬😬

Guy at uni had a 9000 Griffin tuned to over 400bhp. Absolutely hilarious amounts of torque steer. Gears slowly disappeared from the box, until at one point he only had 2nd and 4th. Still drove it as the engine could easily pull away in those gears.

Always had a big thing for the 9000 but never quite got round to owning one. 

A Carlsson salon in red still looks a nice place to be on a winter motorway at 3am blasting about at silly speeds. 

No doubt now looking at £10k for something that was £800 ten years ago!!! 

Still I shouldn't complain at I bought my cossie for £2800 in 2006 with a year's mot and fully functional, that's appreciated slightly* since then. ....

 

 

But it doesn't work anymore 🤣🤣🤣

Fair enough but bear in mind that the Mazda will remain worthless for the foreseeable future where as prices of good Boxsters are starting to creep up. Both will probably require equal amounts of investment to keep going. I had my Boxster for four years and I would classify it as one of the best cars that I've had.

That's exactly why I bought my 9000 with the standard 2.0 in it. Honest. I totally knew all that beforehand.

Also, dare you to try standing up in the load area of mine with the tailgate open. You'll get a concussion pretty quickly due to me fitting Honda Civic struts in an attempt to get the boot to stay open. It didn't work. They were the first boot struts I found in the scrap yard that seemed the right length. I should try going back and finding the struts out of something a bit beefier...

That looks like a rather smashing place to sit.  It's even got the prestigious CATALYSER badge on the back which, along with the Lambda Sond grille badge, fascinated a younger Bornite.
