Solid Gold Shite.

Unloved by the buying public of 1981.  Unwanted by most Maxi Fans of 2020.  Naturally, I love these Maxi 2s.  And look!

Glorious.

Come on guys.  Can we get back to this sort of stuff rather than 406s and Veg oil? This is what it's all about!

I have a long-held desire for an A55 /A60, about the only car of that era I have an interest in - the styling is just 'right' somehow and my grandfather had a couple of them back in the 60s, one of which was a brand new Oxford in a slightly bizzare bright pink which I can only assume was very cheap!  I've got some marvellous old cinefilm footage of it somewhere.

IIRC the trim levels for the Supercinq were:

TC (later campus) with 850cc or 1108cc in the Campus

TL with 1108cc

GTL with 1108cc

GTS with 1398cc

Automatic with 1398cc

GTX with 1721cc

Monaco with 1398cc (Auto) or 1721cc (Manual)

GT Turbo with 1398cc

Pretty much, except the 1.4 was 1397cc, and the smallest engine in the TC was the 956 - the Supercinq never got the 845.

Is there only a single carb under that mahoosive air cleaner?  That's a bit shite.  (Not in the good way either.)

Woh! I never knew they were made that late. The 60's styling mashed together with 80's plastic trim just should't work but somehow does! I love it! :D

I've always had a soft spot for ancient designs that have been given a desperate facelift on a tiny budget in a last-ditch attempt to keep them saleable.  Hence the Innocenti, and my fondness for late Rovers.

Good memory, same colour, I reckon that was a good 14 years ago!  (EDIT: it was, bought Sep ‘05, sold Apr ‘06).  It was a time of low scrap value so I paid Shadow money for it.  Quite the sleeper with the Astra GTE engine.  Got scrapped after I sold it.

My Mum had one of these with the GTE engine, it was awful, but that's because it turned out to have been a written off ex undercover police car, all became obvious when she gave it the beans round some S bends and the rear window flew out, exposing that a new roof had been welded in..

And how did that turn out, Steve?
Shush you!

(On the road in the summer of 2001 took a couple of bits off to improve it over the winter, then a few more bits then never went back together) sold in 2016 for £1500 which wasn't a bad shout..
