My Rover P3 has this exact combination inlet silencer and aircleaner:

It works beautifully, the idea being if you get everything else sorted, you can't hear if the engine is running until you open the bonnet.

Servicing it, however, is a right royal pain.  You see, it doesn't open.

The idea is, as far as I've worked out, is you slosh the end with the metal gauze in a tin bucket full of paraffin until no more gunk comes out, then you pour engine oil in AND THEN CLEAN UP THE MESS YOU'VE JUST MADE.

If anybody has a better idea, I'd love to know, really.

Well Daimler had a better idea, as on the other Conquest for sale on eBay at the moment:

**Drain then take to somewhere with a degreasing tank. Spray the wire mesh with post-17481-0-67758900-1459090519_thumb.jpg

Not tried this method but agree it is a vilely messy job.

'I bought this car as a wreck in the early nineties and did it up over a couple of years while I recovered from illness. It was then my only transport for years, continuous insurance documents and MOTs from ’93 to ’98'

Fair play to him.

Despite the horrific looks, this is actually probably quite good VFM for 250 of your earth pounds

It's got the all important David BannernnaBanarnaramanananananabatman engine. But it doesn't actually work.

I like the way this fella's mate is trying to sneak up on the Vauxhall to try and get in before it falls to bits

There's an outfit near Edinburgh selling those SA cortinas. Well I say selling I don't think they ever actually sold one as they seem to asking just above the sensible price anyone would pay for non mot'd cortina with no UK registration.

If that actually goes for the£3250 winning bid, it's got to be the cheapest Hemi in the UK of EVAH!!!!

Even with the bodykit and grille ( which you could resell) it's still a Barg.

300's are rare in that the bigger the engine the more it's worth, and anything under £4K is usually a 300,000 mile CRuD.

Probably better for my marriage that I didn't see this sooner.

Parked by the road in Pretoria and advertised by way of a note in the window. I have the contact number if interested. Could probably assist with purchase etc for a regular.

1983 Cortina 3.0 V6 GLS. 125,000 miles. One owner. Interior cloth replaced. £1,475.attachicon.gifIMG-20160214-WA0001.jpgattachicon.gifIMG-20160214-WA0003.jpgattachicon.gifIMG-20160214-WA0004.jpg

For reference purposes, here's a Cortina 3.0 V6 still in South Africa that was up for grabs recently.

That crusty windscreen surround is the start of a lifetime of woe, the rest is easy.

I've only spent 4kg of wire on mine...

Fiorino pickup with plenty of test - could be a bargain.
