beruit .

  • The Lebanon is LHD too. Will try and find a pic of the Seat Ibiza I had there. I also wonder where the RHD 504/505s went as I've never seen any ex-UK ones in West, North or Southern Africa.
  • Driving a RHD in Nigeria would be the greatest headache imagineable. You'd have to spend so much time and money paying "dashes" at checkpoints to make up for the offence of driving a RHD that you'd never get anywhere. It's bad enough in a LHD! But maybe they do that now.
  • I lived in West Africa for most of 1995 to 2004 (then moved to Southern Africa) and in that time no one imported RHDs. RHDs would be turned away at the port. Most people (including myself) sourced LHDs from places like the Utrecht car market. Anyone familiar with this great place?
  • If all these Mazdas, Mercs and Terranos are going over there nowadays there must be such a price difference between LHD and RHD that it is worth bribing your way through the port/customs/registration office and then converting to LHD. But where would you even find a Xedos 9 LHD dashboard? Googling came up with these two who will convert for about £800 in the UK. But would the air con still work? http://www.nairaland.com/628311/right-hand-drive-left-hand http://www.gumtree.com/p/mazda/rhd-lhd-car-conversion/1001159208

About twenty five years ago I had the chance to buy one for a grand - t&t - in Doune, Perthshire. It was about a three owner car from new.

^ It's certainly a very pleasing shade of brown.  Have these got cambelts or are they on chains?

Edit:  Although that beige Renault 16 is all the car you'll ever need.

Very true. Although I think even the pogweasle one near Wimereux shall suffice.

I hate those S-types, they look exactly like what you might expect a jag to look like if the yanks designed and built it. Fugly and contrived with a taxi dashboard and massive cheap placca switches inside.

Yeah, but if you leave jaguarism aside and pretend it's a yank, you'd probably end up with a darn good car for little dosh.

Edit: Or come to your senses and import an R16 with slightly dystopian overtones from France.

I looked at buying an S-Type once.  Couldn't shake the Jaguar badge (which I like) from my mind when sitting in it - for the interior truly is a plastic-fantastic palace, nothing like a Jaguar should be IMO.  There were (probably are) huge numbers for sale in my home town, which is full of prosperous retirees who went and spent some of their lump-sum pension payout on a new S-Type, usually in sky-blue, which they then proceeded to drive very slooooowly between their homes, the golf club, and Waitrose (or Sainsburys if they found the parking spaces at Waitrose too small).

Like you DS20, I was looking at one too, mainly because a mate at work has a 2.7D which he really likes. I was so disappointed when I sat inside one-had a real cheap feel about it, compared to the LS400 I had, and even the complete piece of rubbish X300 Jag I had (briefly). No point driving a car I would just pick fault with all the time. My 1989Merc has a better interior and feel of quality than the S-Type.

What I didn't like about the only S-Type I ever looked at, was the engine bay.

Scary that was. There was very little in terms of an engine, but it was stodged to the brim with stuff I couldn't even identify.

photo wise you will notice there are none of the N/S due to it being close to a wall however the N/S looks to be in good condition

also I wasn't brave enough to open the bonnet but I think the inner wings will need repair.

I'm fairly confident that she should start with a little effort.

Good to find someone whose glass is half full.

Still, £145 leaves you some money over for a Wilko dustpan and brush set and a roll of rubble sacks.

The old Triumph would yield some parts; surely better to be offered for sale first than straight to the crusher?

Yes, absolutely, didn't mean to suggest otherwise. Probably is a donor rather than a viable project, but reasonably priced for parts at just a few quid over scrap money.

That S Type is a pre facelift version, the ones made after 2002 are much nicer inside. Plenty of space for me and I'm lanky and a bit overweight too (gsoh, ns etc)
