Not sure about UK, but elsewhere all diesel MKII Grandads were only sold with taxi package,

i.e. the taxi package and diesel were in fact one package.

Yes,could be the same here. Just the fact this one's an L not a basic diesel. I do know you could get the Taxi package as an option on the 2.0 petrol. I remember reading in the 'Ford Cars' brochure of the time, if memory serves the Taxi and 2.8 Injection shared a double page spread- neither model was deemed important enough for two pages of its own unlike the L,GL and Ghia.

There could be the explanation. Outside the UK, 2.0s were V6es, so no taxi company would have bought them.

And in fact, very few other people did, 2.0s were seldom seen. The bulk were 2.3s as they didn't cost much more.

Also, the 2.3s were significantly faster than 2.0s, whereas I always found the 2.8s being only marginally faster than the 2.3s.

But the availability of the 2.0 Pintos probably gave you Englishmen the two taxi options, petrol or diesel.

I guess whether you then upped the ante on top of it with an L or GL package was up to you.

Imagine a ~~private buyer~~ giffer opting for a diesel (with the mandatory taxi package) and then also ticking the L box on the order form.

I came across some weird combinations in my life when it comes to MKII Granadas. I once had an L, but with the 2.8i and five speed.

I guess you could just order what you wanted and they built you your car.

Granada mk2 2.5d were not that bad, noticeably more torque than the 2.3d Sierra and more willing to rev. The one I drove when mini cabbing would do 90 no bother. I'd absolutely love that one.
