Farmers favourite for £100

The reason the car is advertised as spares/repairs is that the back box has snapped from the main pipe and that the bolt on cradle that hold the rear diff, suspension links etc has corroded and needs replacing. This part is readily available and seems on a quick inspection to be a fairly easy fix. The car does drive but wobbles from side to side.

Balancing out the modern toss with this.

No MOT, no tax, no lacquer. So much win.

That BX is a rare survivor, but not as rare as the Reliant behind it, which is the only yellow Reliant van not to have Trotters Independent .....etc painted on it.

How much would that Merc have been new - £60-£70k???

£56,400 before options according to CAR November 1989, so yes.  (S-class saloons had been relegated to the 'Boring' section of the GBU by then, incidentally.)

A V8 SEC of this era is on my bucket list but an SEL is just a bit too vast.

According to the Bank of England's inflation calculator that £60k in 1989 is equivalent to £134,653 today

Which sounds horrific - but I just looked and a new S600 is listed at Â£142,735.  Also   .   (The S-Class range starts at about half that.)

The new LWB Range Rover starts at £106k. The next trim level up - the SVAutobiography (whatever that is) starts at £156k

No way did I thought they were worth that much seeing them on the road.

That blue Metro is lovely, shame it looks a bit frilly and is probably more so underneath!

The wheel trimz look great though.

Ahoy team,

What's the consensus on these little Rav4s? They're getting fugging cheap, but I assume are ruinous on tax and MPG?

£400 for one with MOT and with the price of petrol what it is, are these a good winter 2-litre beater? Plus they're almost classic insurance now (WTF?).

Tax isn't going to be an issue with this, it's only the 1550cc split at this age, so it'll cost the same as any other 2-litre.  Insurance, no idea, probably no worse than an MR2 though.  I quite fancy one, having had a soft-top as my rental car the first time we visited Cyprus.

edited to add: I've looked at the listing now.  Holy shit, you had to post that didn't you?  Right price and a proper gearbox!  The only thing keeping my credit card in my wallet is the distance involved.... probably just as well though!

1.2 Diesel!!! You must like driving to own this as you will be spending a fair chunk of time behind the wheel getting anywhere.
