It can be done with multiple accounts.

 

Account 1: Bid £50 you want to pay for car.

Account 2: Bid £20,000

Account 2: Bid £20,001

 

High bid is now 20k, nobody else will bid. Get towards the end, and retract your bids on account 2. Price drops back to £50 and you win on account 1.
