Apparently good SD1 LT77s are now the sort of miracles Jesus would be chuffed to bits with but the R380 gearbox used in the Morgan Plus 8 and MG RV8s is a straightforward swap if you can get one of those. Otherwise it's out with the tape measure and finding a 'box that does.

Doctor fodder alert! 

 

this was owned by a 92 year old relative who has stopped driving the bodywork and underneath are like new mot expires this week but has done less than 200 mls since last one car has done gen 24.000 mls a one off 650

I think it is the same massive aluminium forging as was used on US Audis. On US cars they were mounted on shock absorbing thingys. I had an 80 GL for much of the 80's, with these bumpers, but mounted on wimpy UK market brackets. My recollection is that the lower spec. LS had the thin steel / chrome bumper. Similar bumpers on the Mk1 Audi 100 at the same time, been thinking of trying to find a 100 one to adapt to my van to replace its feeble bit of bent steel.
