After I've swapped memory cards over I'll post the slightly better spots from this afternoon.

And the only professional cyclist to smoke seems to be Bradley wiggins, the well known severe ashmatic.

I spent the afternoon pounding as many pavements as possible. This is your lot.

Good to see you've made the Fatherland.

They had a scrappage scheme there a few years ago (sound familiar?), and together with a strict MoT means there are bugger all older cars on the Strassen compared to Blighty.

Liking the Ascona A. I had a B 1.6S for about 5 years and loved it and was given an Ascona A 1.9 SR but it was totally fucked.

Wow that looks like a twin-pot daihatsu Cuore hiding behind that brick shed. MEGA RARE!!!

How are you getting on in terms of sleeping and eating? You must be ploughing through a fair few calories right?

I always found proper German Turkish kebabs utterly fantastic compared with the soggy envelope of dead dog shavings you get in the UK.

A good hunk of real bread, filled with recognisable meat, veg and a scorching yet tasty sauce - can recommend.

I keep telling people here what an utterly miserable pile of meh "Kebabs" are in the UK but they won't hear it. Someone would make millions if they started selling something at least remotely resembling one, but I feel like what you get now is "good enough". The stereotypes are all true.

^^ This.

I very rarely buy Kebabs in the UK because they are what they are.

In Germany however, eating a Kebab is a much more rewarding experience.

If you ever find yourself in Bristol at lunchtime, there's some Kurdish guys in St Nicks Market who make a kebab as good as any I've had in Berlin, they make their own bread in a tandoor. You will have to queue mind.

I had currywurst mit pommes for dinner yesterday and it was bloody delicious, plenty of that and you'll keep going just fine

I'd take a thick  wedge of meatcheese and several mirroreggs washed down with a Doppelbock (for the calories).

I'm very impressed with your progress, I wouldn't last 24 hours in these temperatures without blubbing to matron. Top work chap,

I'm probably not getting as many calories as I should, but I seem to be doing alright.

I'm tending to buy a bit of bread, meat and cheese every couple of days along with some sweets and maybe nuts. On average so far I guess daily I'm having four slices of bread, four slices of meat, a bit of cheese and a bag of spogs. I did get some meusli bars the other day for the mornings when it's too cold to start making butties or whatever, but then I forgot about them and they have now disappeared.

The sleeping is absolutely fine. I have two sleeping bags and a bivvy, and so far just one sleeping bag inside the bivvy bag (inside the tent obvs) has been enough to keep warm enough. Although that is whilst also wearing three pairs of socks, trousers and thermal longjohns, a t-shirt and jumper and fleece jacket and bigger over jacket, and a hat, snood and gloves. As soon as darkness starts to fall the only place warm enough to be is inside the bags, so I generally go to sleep anywhere between 5pm and 9pm and sleep soundly(ish) 'til about 7am, when it's time to get up and pack everything away in time for daylight. I also have a sleeping mat to insulate against the ground cold which provides a little bit of extra comfort but TBH after a full days cycling I could sleep on a bed of elbows and be fine.

You say that just as I'm spending the night in a warm cosy hostel. To justify it though, it was -4C last night and a bit of snow is due tonight.

It's okay being out in the elements for several days at a time but occasionally some proper warmth is required. I don't know why but I feel really guilty about staying in a hostel, like I'm cheating or summat.

I had a 1.6S as well, an estate.Great car and so much better built than the opposition. The only problem was the automatic choke.

I think a night a week in a hostel is not in the slightest cheating.

Lots of people have commented on being envious of you on the trip, I can categorically state I would struggle doing it even if I was staying in a hotel each night. Little treats* like a warm bed and a decent meal are far from cheating and just mean you might carry on longer to entertain us all.

And back on in their place are the wet trainers. They're not too bad actually, and my feet have been cold but bearable.

Try this for cold/wet feet............1 pair this socks..............then thin plastic bag over sock, then another pair of socks.............works a treat

Very impressive stuff. Know what you mean about the need for warmth though. No disgrace in a warm bed for the night. A proper toilet must be pleasant too! I was going to ask that that business...

What goes on in the woods stays in the woods.

Although TBH I only really need proper business once every couple of days so I can combine that with getting a coffee in a MacDonalds or whatever.

When I lived in Hamburg, I had a Turkish Pizza pretty much every 2 days. They were about 2-3 quid then (2002) and very wholesome.

McVonDonalds used to do a 'McBacon Und Eggs' breakfast for next to nothing. Maybe they still do?
