Best of luck Bucketeer! You're utterly mental, but we wouldn't have you any other way.

Chod speed and all that.

Not going to pretend I am jealous in the sense I'd never attempt this - but I take my hat off to you for doing it.

Sincere good wishes.

Is there a way chucking the odd sheckle in to help him along, I'd like to buy him Chrimbo dinner ?

Best of luck Alex, give me a shout if you get as far south as Toulon, I can probably help provide you with some auld shite to run around in or even drive home.

As mentioned before, Alex: if you go to Gibraltar, I've got family there.

"May the wind be at your back, and the road rise up to meet you."

A diary could belatedly fund your trip, there's a book just itching to be made from this. Safe travels.

I didn't do much peddling to get to the ferry. I had a lovely lift in a warm car.

Anyway, I rode the last bit then did some queuing.

Then did some more queuing.

And now I'm aboard the big boat bound for Holland.

The cabin is pretty flipping swank.

It's got a bathroom, with toilet and shower, and a TV. I'm not really a TV watcher but I found two great channels. I can watch a view from the bridge of the ship and also a view in to the pet holding area to awwww at the cute doggies.

10/10 Would boat again.

It's a big old boat. I got a bit lost trying to find my way to the Captain's table for the black tie ball.

We were supposed to be setting sail at 11pm but still haven't moved yet. More trucks still to board.

They are lovely boats. They do always seem to leave late. Also, you get to port and then find they won't let you off! Oh and would sir like an expensive breakfast while you wait?

I found the outside deck and am having a wander about.

I overheard a couple of guys talking Bulgarian so had a chat with them. We/I joked that I was looking for the shuffleboard court and they laughed (out of pity not understanding I think), then I wandered off to the other side of the boat and only found a bloody basketball court.

I'm now sat enjoy the fresh air and the thrum of the motors as they wind up for action.

You've got some sphericals to do this.

Beyond assembing some gear, I would not know how to survive.

Do keep posting, even basic stuff like where to get water and make it safe to drink would be a challenge for me.

In mainland Europe?

From a sink, of course. Their sinks aren't as woefully shit as the English ones, btw, but then again, which ones are?

If you spend several weeks cycling through France, a country West of Mainland Europe, obtaining water is your smallest problem.

Your chances of survival are very slim indeed, unless you cycle along the borders with neighbouring countries, so you can nip across whenever you need anything.
