Look up Bergerac on Internet Movie Car Database. Early 80s Toyota Cressida taxi that used to live near me on there, plus Galant and maybe others too.

Edit. Galant has private hire plate on rear bumper but no roof sign (not sure if that was a thing in those days)

I can imagine cars have a long life on Jersey, where do they all end up ultimately? Is there a big Jersey scrapyard full of solid gold chod?

Its a small place, there's a metals yard that frags stuff more or less on arrival. Other than that a few heaps rotting in fields but no French style tat hoards that I'm aware of, land is pricey here!

I'm sure that picture has come up on here before, claiming that that's actually a Lonsdale YD41.

Yep spot on. There was definitely at least one Lonsdale estate over here. But I can't remember whether it was used in revenue earning service.

I don't know where this lhd Victor (with headrests on the front seats) is from, anyone know where this style of reg-plate is from? Lots of German stuff in the background but I can't imagine the GM Vauxhall being sold in Germany. Could just be how the cars were parked at a car show.

Check out the little lit 'taxi' signs on the front wings.

I seem to recall that the first ever fleet of unlicensed minicabs in the London were Renault Dauphines. However the internet recons that there were some FIAT multiplas that started before but weren't as well publicised.

Cuba.

'Bitza' Ford Consul/Zeff/Isuzu/Chrysler/Chevy/Toyota/Cadillac/Jeep/Yugo being used to make a living.

I caught a couple of episodes of an interesting TV series during the summer about the adventures of a taxi driver running an old 50s or 60s car like this. I don't remember what the series was called but it was real scrapyard make-do-and-mend survival. For what they were, cars were expensive to buy and prices asked (demanded) for old worn out replacement parts were extortionate.

From memory, the guy had 'fitted' a steering column from a totally different type of car because 'the man' said it was the part he needed. Gawd knows what they do with brakes, etc.

No photo but I remember back in the early 1990s at a taxi rank in Norwich City Centre there used to be an X-reg Lada saloon that looked very tired.
