£50 for the tank, £25 for the road?

(That was my MGB when I first filled it up fully)

Just the joys of an empty 57 litre tank and petrol at 130p a litre...

Lol, just aiming for the ' most classy car's award!

It might the greenest at least...

It's alright I suppose, but my eye was more drawn to that gorgeous Morris Oxford estate *drools* :-P

Lol. Believe you me, I feel similar

Yeah most of these are manual roovses. Originally sneered at in road tests, who's laughing now?

I really like these but finding a good one is difficult. Like a lot of VAG of the era, they seem to chew sensors so most of them on eBay come with a free EML illumination show.

The dash, earlier.

Only light on is the Handbrake light!

See, I had a 5 cylinder 20v so mine came with the standard always-illumated low fuel light.

This got me thinking, two types of car, the only thing I could think was that I've not seen you in would be a convertible, 4x4 or lpg motor, so I'll go with a shonky Range Rover on lpg ;)

… unless it's the bargain Audi convertible posted by LP

Never had an Audi or a cab,

And the "practical bit' is if it pisses me off, I'll put the hood down and use it as a skip;)

Is the square of black tape still covering the EML or did you clear it?

Was taken off at start of journey, light hasn't been on at all

This was dispatched to the unit today for an initial clean and inspection..

There's a fair whack of tree based detritus

The interior is in good condition, but the leather seats could do with a good clean and feed..

We set to washing it and started on the hood cleaning.

First up, getting the boot are all cleaned.

Then an ititial pass at scrubbing the hood - stuff started to shift but I reckon it'll need a couple of goes with cleaner and sealer.

The 'to fix' list is as follows:

Clean interior

Clean seats

Fix oil temp gauge - not reading. Oil pressure and voltmeter are spot on

Temp gauge only rises when stationary - suspect thermostat

One headlamp bulb out

Drivers side indicator lense is cracked

Pass side mirror is cracked

Door bottom trim needs clipping/replacing

Wheel arches could do with some touchup

Potential bearing noise to be identified.

Also need to try the roof!

All fun n games - plenty for the Da to tinker away with!

Let us know what you use on the roof and how it pans out, please. The Astra needs a damned good clean.

These Audis are mega cheap at the moment, the manual hood is probs the best option anyway as read very recently when the motor goes it's a right pain/major money to sort out.

I like these, my old boss had an S2 Coupe which had been interfered with by a man in Ashford who went by the name of 'Turbo' Tony. That thing was ridiculously fast. But I could defo see myself wafting in a Cab at some point.

After a fair whack of cleaning and a bit of a check over, this has been pressed into daily use by the Burd whilst new calipers for the Clio are on order..

It's come up well, and the Burd reckons it's easy to drive..

Took the Da for a spot of "Thelma and Louise" too - chilly wit the top down!

Smart looking car that - fancy a swap ? Your 'Lady Di' for my 'Steve Buscemi' ? (the a2, named after the scene in Fargo where the hookers can only describe him as "kinda funny lookin" )

I had got it into my head you had flogged this. Add me to your list of people interested in next ownership. Ta

Would also be interested what works on the roof to clean/seal. The MG could do with a coat of looking at.

Aye, our new MR2 roof is in very good condition but looks very dry. I'm keen to feed/condition it with something before folding it

Renopur is good stuff for cabrio hoods, worked a treat on our 306 and Megane roofs.

The first tank is in on this..

Despite being 1445kg kerb weight, having a puny 1.8 20v na lump with 125bhp, and the aerodynamics of a stack of breeze blocks

It managed 32.5mpg (443 miles and 62.00L)

None too shabby. Approx £0.70 per mile so far for the wind in my beard.

And what's more, the Burd likes it cos it's "normalish"
