This came up in my YT feed....WTF?

Some classic Quentin Smirhes action, that.

It's all a bit strange.

Glad to see you are getting on with this and enjoying catching up with the small jobs that need doing. Good win on the indicator stalk.

Hopefully someone will scuff the BMWs bumpers when manoeuvring, that will teach them.

If he has pushed yours out the way that's a seriously twatty thing to do.

I really don't understand folk these days, on what planet would you think that's an OK thing to do ??

Entitled bell end.

Rig one of your 12000w lightbulbs up inside the car on a tilt/motion sensor. When the car is nudged the light will turn on.

The person in the other car will be so intrigued they'll get out to look and be peering closely through the window just as the ballast warms up and switches to full power, blinding them instantly 👌

That'll learn em

I assuming also setting fire to anyone who messed with REV/their clothes with the beam focused through a suitable lens or such might be frowned upon? :)

Only if you get caught!

What's the signal strength like between rev and your flat? Either WiFi, Bluetooth or zigbee?

Or just leave it in gear as well as using the hand brake.

I don't think it can be left in gear as such due to having a centrifugal clutch.

@Crackers and I have a similar issue in that we both have very short commutes but they are not really possible by anything other than driving, hence a large diesel engine is not ideal.  A tiny petrol engine (or indeed an electric, but they are ££££) would be a lot better.  Panda, smart car, original Fiat 500, classic mini.. something small that actually stands a chance of getting more than midly tepid on the drive.

dare I suggest something small blue, with 3 wheels and sliding door(s)? :) they are all Aircooled or Electric no matter which model you go for! :) (although the Electric machines only have a top speed of 15 Mph, which IIRC your commute although short involves some fast roads, so perhaps not ideal then!)

had another day out in REV to run some errands :)

IMG_1531.thumb.jpeg.7ee63e8485963fd8a6d2b93929aabc6a.jpeg

main aim of the game was furniture shopping, for I need a new office chair! and my brother popped along also so I have a couple shots I would not normally get the chance to get :)

IMG_4267.thumb.jpeg.b2cccbd9d156fcf0ab70ec18cb3df7c0.jpeg

eventually a suitably plush office chair was found and purchased, (tho not collected in REV! was not going to try my luck there, for £15 ill take their home delivery service, as I cant drag it up the stairs anyhow LOL)

IMG_1543.thumb.jpeg.646fdd7f392a899c0cbea8fa26ad16da.jpeg

and then I was soon homeward bound :)

IMG_1548.thumb.jpeg.47809f36374bd563920d729ca517f23a.jpeg

well almost! obligatory "I have not seen one of those for years" from a member of the public, happened first (who said his 50cc moped on the left there will do 70mph, not quite sure I believe that!)

IMG_4279.thumb.jpeg.4f020a83041f1a6947678b5846231cc5.jpeg

and then eventually I got home :) only slightly lost my ignition switched live circuit on the way home which included things like indicators, but a quick twiddle of the offending fuse brought everything back :) (not before I had to negotiate a right hand turn with hand signals, yay for sliding windows LOL)

@LightBulbFun any idea what these sort of bulbs are? They are used beside a bathroom vanity mirror.  Seem to be filament bulbs. No markings on then whatsoever.

One was working until I removed it to swap bulbs as the other wasn't.

those are known as as architectural lamps :) round peg ones in your case (referring to the lamp caps) if you measure how long they are you should be able to find a suitable replacement, they are not really made anymore, but there are a few on eBay and lamp wholesaler sites

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2332490.m570.l1313&_nkw=architectural+lamp&_sacat=0

back in the old days, before Neon signs really took over you could get them in different shapes/curves as well, but these are *very* rare today, I am not actually sure i have seen any ever (certainly none of the alphabet series/any complete letters) here is an excerpt from a 1941 Mazda BTH lamp catalog showing the exentisve range of architectural lamps once available   :)

no problems! once you have identified the length of the bulb etc, its also worth doing a google search the same as the eBay search I linked above, since some non-eBay wholesalers may also hold stock :) just make sure you do get ones with the 2 round pegs because these lamps also come in types with 2 rectangular caps or 1 singular cap in the middle of the lamp as well, so just be aware of that :)

had another quick run out in REV this evening just to grab some supplies I forgot to grab last time :)

but it will probably only be until I can get to the FoD until I can get something properly decent, too much random light around here!

remember the whole DVLA issue where the DVLA fucked up the lookup table so all Invacar vehicles suddenly showed up as "Invacare" instead?

Screenshot 2024-09-21 at 22.20.20.png Screenshot2024-07-24at15_51_10.thumb.png.fc41979199916d8723d11e29a5117532.png

and the god awful responses/lack their of responses I got from the DVLA about it?

https://autoshite.com/topic/32723-lightbulbfuns-invacar-general-ramble-thread-index-on-page-1-survivors-lists-on-pages-24134-adgecutlers-invacar-mk12-restoration-from-page-186-onwards-still-harping-on/page/398/#findComment-3099912

well after the above awful response I got back in regards to the official letter of complaint I wrote, I eventually wrote back a response to the head of complaints the official next step, this time I went to town, a 4 page letter with printed evidence stapled into the letter as well, and well, I think the results speak for them selves :)

 Screenshot2024-12-06at23_12_49.thumb.png.8f5f60acbee7edd2dc7fb47812c867fd.png Screenshot2024-12-06at22_51_14.thumb.png.5fc16e3ed5280260528d29d92d3572b2.png

I have not actually had a response back to my latest head of complaints letter, *but* as above I was checking on the DVLA records as I do, it actually looks like they fixed the issue! Invacars now actually show up as Invacars once more! they fixed the lookup table! (the above is just a couple examples, but if you look up any Invacar now you will see they all show up properly once more!

(and I did check and genuine Invacare Mobility scooters like Q120DAR do still show up as they should as INVACARE, so that further proves to me like I thought the DVLA did have 2 separate make codes for Invacar and Invacare, and someone fucked up the Invacar one when putting together the make code for Invacare, and that thankfully when fixing the fuckup, they did not cause another fuckup and make all the mobility scooters show up as Invacar as was feared)

the only thing I am personally waiting for them to fix, is now REV's own DVLA record, since if you recall earlier in the year they removed REV from the coded system, so I am still waiting for them to put re-assign the ZA (INVACAR) Make code to REV's record, I did check REV's record, but its still in the G9 manually typed make info code rather then the ZA Invacar code.

hopefully with the lookup table fixed soon they will fingers crossed put REV back into the correct make code, as above I have not yet got a response to my letter yet, so it will be very interesting to see what that says, but I did a while back get an official acknowledgement of them receiving the letter, which I was very pleased about in itself! (for a lot of communication I have had with the DVLA I never got any official acknowledgement from them, that they got said comunication, I always had to chase it up and confirm it etc)

so yes I Am *extremely* pleased to see that with some good old fashioned bloody determinism, it preliminarily seem to have got the whole Invacar vs Invacare lookup table issue *properly* sorted :) hopefully all the 3rd party sites will eventually revert also (I notice all the 3rd party sites that get their lookup table data directly from the DVLA still say INVACARE the ULEZ checker for example still says INVACARE for TWC, but it will probably take a little bit of time for the fixed make code lookup table to propagate but hopefully all being well those should fix themselve)  and again hopefully they will also fix the extra fuckery they did with REV's record also and it will be very interesting to see what their ultimate response will be! (again hopefully they also fix REV's record in all this, and I dont have to chase that up in itself!)

Thing is, if you had made a mistake like the wrong address or mis spelled name or whatever on the documents you can be sure as shits brown they’d screw you for it. Why should they ignore obvious errors and inaccuracies on their own documents, especially after someone else has taken the time to bring that fact to their attention. And all it took was for someone to delete an ‘E’!

Anyway, @LightBulbFun how’s the beast doing for gas mileage?? I bet she’s pretty frugal isn’t she?

As someone who's had responsibility for a large government database, to my mind it's a much bigger issue than just the Invacar/ Invacare error - it shows that a user or users have been in making changes to the system without fully understanding what they're doing.

Now, it could be a simple error, or a situation where someone needs a bit of refresher training, or even that a user guidance document could be a little clearer. Or it could be a sign that someone/ several unqualified individuals have had access to the back end of the database, and for whatever reason made a total hames of it.

These are potentially serious problems, and if unchecked could expand to the point where a huge and expensive exercise is required to plough through records to rectify what's gone wrong.

From a business point of view, a front-end user flagging a problem AND giving the probable cause is a valuable signal that should be acted on. If it's got to the point that inaccuracies are being noticed by end users across multiple records, it won't be a one-off issue.

In my case, it was an internal system rather than a public-facing system that became corrupted (by a staff member who was ignoring written process guidance and then lying about it), but it still required me pulling three staff members off front line duties for several weeks to verify thousands of datapoints and tag those with errors, before correcting them.

It was annoying but manageable, and we caught it before it caused any really big problems, so hopefully now DVLA have too.

I can see why some seem to think it's insignificant or overly pedantic, but if someone had mucked about with the system and it suddenly started generating fines for non-payment of car tax to owners of historic vehicles, or vehicles on SORN, then I think the issue might become suddenly relevant to many on here...
