Hello! I can't believe this site has passed me by for so long, it sounds right up my street, as I've had some right old shite in my time:

  • A Reliant Robin which, despite being mainly fibreglass, failed its MoT on excessive rust. It took me to France and back, though.
  • A Reliant KItten that rescued my very pregnant other half on a snowy day when all the Chelsea tractors were getting stuck.
  • A Reliant Regal which I was convinced was a factory prototype hatchback, until someone told me it had just been hacked about with by a local tinkerer.
  • An Austin Allegro - our first car as a married couple! Bright yellow! Twin headlights! Um...
  • Citroens BX and XM, which failed its MoT due to a big crack in one of those tiny sidelights, and we couldn't find a replacement for love nor money. I still miss that car.
  • Mazda Bongo for quite a while, which was amazing but thirsty, perhaps outdone only by the three-litre Hi-Ace we ran for a bit.

Now relegated to an 07 Skoda Octavia with just over 60k on the clock, because the Golf Mk IV estate that we put 65000 miles on with nothing more than an annual service and the odd tyre finally, and quite unreasonably, gave up the ghost on us. And don't get me started on the various MZs and Dniepers, with and without sidecars, that have been subject to my tender loving care.

 Welcome, @Bash Street Hero

(Is that a Beano reference?)

A chronicle of comical characters getting into scrapes and japes? Sure. And also the Beano.

Thanks for the welcome.

Hello everybody,

Long-time reader, first-time poster.

I’m originally from the EU, grew up around a proper shite of cars (VW T3, BMW E21, Hyundai Pony Pickup, and a Stellar still in the family), and have been living in Scotland for over 20 years.

First UK car was a 3 door 2003 Citroen Xsara 1.6 petrol bought from the long-gone Intercity Motor Auctions in Glasgow from the AC part exchange fleet. That was a proper cultural shock shifting from doing things properly to MOT mentality, but I managed to keep it going until it had to be scrapped.

Then I moved on to a 5 door 2009 Mazda 6 2.0 diesel directly from the AC franchise and that was actually very reliable until safety recalls and a hit-and-run ended its life, and it is now sitting at the local EMR.

I mostly used the cars for exploring the countryside and maybe I invested more at the garage that going through more shite experiences. Apart from the driving bits, I think I may have met by accident one or two fellow shitters from marshalling with the SSCC at Kames, Ardeer, and Forrestburn.

Hi folks,

I've been meaning to join up for a while but had login issues (now fixed, thanks to admin and a helpful chap on another forum).

Tat content will follow (I collected a Puma last week as a new daily ride - one side looks decent, the other side has panel damage for the full length of the car)...

Hello,

Thanks for letting me in!

I'm a lifelong car noticer and now spotter. Always appreciated number plates, particularly with period-correct font etc.

Never got round to learning to drive as public transport and a Brompton bike have generally sufficed, and my attention span isn't necessarily suited to travelling faster than my own legs can carry me anyway.

I'm also Egg's 'bird' (hah!) and hoping I'll one day be able to impress him with a car fact he doesn't already know.

Family cars of my youth included a Very Beige Toyota Corolla (particular memories of the oblong door lock buttons, pleased to spot some at FotU last year) and a light blue Suzuki Baleno estate with a perpetually rattly exhaust.

Generally fond of Volvos and Citroens, with a compulsory soft spot for Fords. Have enjoyed sourcing odd bits of Mondeo memorabilia online, but will leave the parts to the expert for now!

Hello All. The forum piqued my interest after watching quite a few Hubnut videos, and I got around to registering a few weeks back after browsing some of the threads. It's been great reading about the stuff being kept on (and off) the road on here.

I'm Ben, I'm based in Warwickshire. I'm also often found in South Wales.

I have form for being an MG Rover licker. Previously owning a 2004 facelift Rover 25 when I was in Uni, and later one of the early MG3s where they bolted the wheels on at Longbridge. I think I picked it up from my dad having had 2 Montegos and an R8 Rover 200 in my childhood.

Anyway, my current shite is a 2018 Alfa Mito with the Twinair Turbo engine for daily duties, and perhaps of more interest is my 2004 MG ZT 260 which is my nice weather/summer/shows car.

I believe there is a chap trying to get his membership of this forum approved by the username of "Bertie Wooster" - perhaps @SiC@chaseracer @brownnova or another staff member could help?

Hello all. This is my third time registering on Autoshite but I think my account got deleted because I was an antisocial and boring lurker. Anyway I've got two old estate cars, one I can't afford to put fuel in and the other is broken

The vehicles I like the most have two wheels but I keep buying old cars and I love an estate

Hello!  Welcome etc. and hope you enjoy the forum.  Can thoroughly recommend learning to drive, if the opportunity comes up.  I did and have never looked back -- it's why I keep reversing into things.

Thank you, good to be here! Managed to meet a few forum folks at Rustival this weekend too.

I do keep meaning to start learning again, each time I've tried previously something has cropped up to scupper me (relocating, the pandemic, ankle injury). One day, hopefully soon!
